Sidecar Crush: Bootleg Springs, Book 2
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
"I tried to think of something - anything - to calm my raging hard-on. One wrong move and Leah Mae would rub up against it and that was liable to kill me dead on the spot.”
Model turned disgraced reality TV starlet, Leah Mae Larkin, crash lands in her hometown of Bootleg Springs to lay low while a scandal threatens her career. She can’t shake the feeling that her agent - and supposed fiancé - manipulated her into the role of made-for-TV homewrecker. Connecting with her roots is just what she needs, and Bootleg Springs is home to her father, moonshine, and her childhood best friend, Jameson Bodine.
Only there’s nothing childlike about Jameson - a man who turns scrap metal into art and isn’t afraid to throw down on a rowdy Friday night with his brothers and hellcat sister. He might not say much, but still waters run deep. Seeing the ring on his crush’s finger? He doesn’t like it, but he can’t wish it away. No more than he can wish away the trouble his family is in, with evidence pointing to his late father in the cold case disappearance of Callie Kendall.
Jameson and Leah Mae are just two friends reliving their summers together, blowing off steam, and having fun for the first time in a long time. But Leah Mae is realizing what’s really important in her life, and it isn’t what she thought.
And sometimes steam turns into sparks - hot as molten steel - and friends aren’t just friends.

Jameson Bodine is the absolute sweetest, most sensitive, caring, gentleman a woman can find. A metal sculptor, he hides out in his workshop, away from the spotlight.
LeahMae Larkin moved from Bootleg Springs after her parents divorced when she was 12. She came back every summer to see her Daddy and Jameson was always waiting for her. After a girl disappeared a few years later, Leah Mae's mom decided it was too dangerous for her to return.
Now she's back 12 years later to see her Daddy who's been ill and there's another man's ring on her finger. Oh yeah, the fiancée is with her
I had no idea how things would work out for Jameson and LeahMae. A HEA for them seemed insurmountable with all that stood between them. I absolutely loved watching their story develop. Seeing them grow as individuals and as a couple was wonderful.
This story has humor, angst, that will they won't they anticipation, and all the Bodines we love.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2018It's Boxing Day here in Australia and I feel like I have Christmas Hangover. The best remedy for a Christmas hangover is reading and coffee, in my opinion. Unfortunately, this means that reviewing is not my highest priority today. I finished Sidecar Crush, wanted to share my enjoyment, so decided that my review would be short and sweet. Here goes...
I do not see the appeal of being famous. This could be because I'm not one for being observed or scrutinised. I hate the idea that people could be assessing my every word or clothing choice. I'm also not a fan of "putting on a face" for the public. So, considering all this, I found it hard to connect with Leah Mae in the beginning. I found it even harder to understand how a quiet, extremely private and shy person like Jameson would or could be a perfect match for Leah Mae. But, as time went on, Leah Mae's shell cracked and we saw the real instead of the reality "Leah".
At times Leah Mae's blind commitment to her career seemed stupid. How could she be so easily manipulated? How on earth could she love let alone like Kevin...I mean Kelvin? The guy was an absolute DOUCHEWAFFLE. Even the two seconds worth of contemplation Leah Mae did when faced with taking on a new contract had me confused.
I guess what made this story so enjoyable is that we get to see both Leah Mae and Jameson work through their problems (real life and relationship) using their brains. This does not mean each problem was faced in the same way. Sometimes it was a group effort where talking it out gets the result. Another time it was standing up for yourself with support at the ready. There were even times when it was just a matter of sitting down and contemplating the situation. It was just so realistic and quite refreshing.
Four stars instead of five because the big "L" came out a wee bit too quickly when I think it should have been the little "l" for lust instead. I know that they had known each other since they were kids and hadn't acted on their initial attraction, but jeez, it was together...then straight to love. I may have eye-rolled a smidgen.
I love the Bodine's and I probably haven't given Jameson a big enough dedication to all his goodness. Let's just say there isn't a lot I could find fault in. I don't mind that he's the quiet one in the bunch. Quiet doesn't mean he won't hand out a dose of "Bootleg Justice" when it's called for. He also won't hesitate to get up to a wee bit of shenanigans with the Bodine's. Jameson is a HOTTIE a sweetheart and a sensitive gentleman. Very swoon-worthy.
More words than I thought I was capable of, to be honest. I'm about to go and have my afternoon kip. To sum up...Laura Mae eventually works out where her priorities are and being famous is not as good as holding your head up with pride. Jameson realises that being invisible is no longer the way he wants to live his life and now that his career has taken off, there will be no chance of being forgotten.
I love the way each instalment comes to its conclusion. I get the happy buzz of a contemporary romance finishing on a high and a love story I believe can go the distance.
I'm sure I said short and sweet in the beginning...OOPS!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2019I loved Whiskey Chaser, Scarlett and Devlin's story. Based on that I had to continue with the series because Bootleg Springs has become a place I'd like to live! Anyway, I was very curious about Jameson and his story because he is the quiet, shy brother. LORD, I am so glad I read his story!!!!!
I said in my review for Whiskey Chaser that Scarlett was my all time favorite heroine in a book. OMG, Jameson Bodine is my new all time favorite hero!!! LORD, this man was everything a woman could possible want and then some!!! He is quiet, shy, and thinks he's invisible to the world, which makes him simply adorable. Well, adorable in a hot AF way!! Due to his childhood with his alcoholic father, he doesn't think too highly of himself. Which is why he would rather fade into the background then be the center of attention. But he is the sweetest, most loyal man who would do anything for the people he cares about. SWOON!!!!
Leah Mae Larkin is at a terrible crossroads in her life. She has always wanted to be famous, and now that she is she can't remember why she wanted it. She finds herself engaged to someone she doesn't love and staring in a reality show that she didn't want to do. My heart went out to her right away because she seemed so trapped in her own world. But there were a few times I wanted to slap her and tell her to stand up for herself against that ass of her manager, Kelvin!! But then she did and I was proud of her!! She was such a lovely girl who I feel had lost her way. Luckily she came back to Bootleg Springs. She came to see her dad, who was having health issues, but she really healed herself by coming back.
Jameson and Leah Mae were childhood best friends who got separated at the age of 16 when her parents divorced. They were inseparable as children and had a very close bond. When she comes back it stirs up a lot of old feelings for Jameson. He won't act on them since she's engaged to another man. But when she breaks it off with Kelvin, all bets are off!! It takes the thought of losing her again for him to finally act on his feelings.
They are truly a wonderful couple who were destined to be together! Loved the development of their adult relationship.
Of course, the secondary characters were amazing! The whole Bodine family was present and wonderful, as usual. Cassidy and June Bug were very helpful to the story. And of course the whole town of Bootleg Springs played a huge part in this book! Then there was Kelvin, the character you love to hate. He was an ass from start to finish, but he was on the receiving end of some Bootleg Justice that he needed to put him in his place!! Loved It!!!
I highly recommend this book, this series, to everyone!!! You won't be disappointed! in fact, you'll want Jameson Bodine for your very own once you finish this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2025Loved this book! Kept you wanting to read just one more page all the way through. This series has the comedy we need and the serious we want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, Romantic and Funny!
Bootleg Springs delivers it’s second love story with Claire Kingsley taking the reigns on Jameson Bodine’s story. The childhood friends to lover’s trope is always a favourite of mine and this is one of the best I have ever read.
Sweet, quiet and arty Jameson is everything I look for in a book boyfriend. He may be quiet but that doesn’t mean he isn’t strong and won’t stand up for what he believes in. The heroine Leah Mae is a true example of does being famous mean having it all. A visit to her hometown of Bootleg Springs and reconnecting with her childhood friend Jameson have her asking this question.
The slow-burn relationship is rewarding as Jameson and Leah Mae reconnect and is filled with the expected humour and fun that comes with a Claire & Lucy small town. I think we were all cheering loudly for Mona Lisa McNugget during her fight scene. We also get to spend more time with the various siblings and friends who will complete the series. The underlying mystery surrounding the disappearance of Callie Kendall receives more clues as well.
This book also has possibly my favourite first kiss of ALL TIME! The swoon factor was so high I had to go back and read it again straight away.
This town is funny, charming and the kind that you want to move to. The precision with which Claire and Lucy have tied their stories together is flawless. I eagerly await the remaining 4 books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it from start to finish
I have been very eagerly awaiting the second book in the Bootleg Springs series. I was slightly apprehensive about the writing partnership of Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley, I adore both writers individually but what if writing together is a bust? Well, my mind is at ease, both writers have found a way to write separately under the series umbrella. Obviously, there is the commonality of the Bodine family and the ongoing mystery disappearance of Callie Kendall to hold the plot together but this book is a separate, distinct entity from the first.
Sidecar Crush focuses on second son Jamieson Bodine, a semi reclusive artist for whom the description, still waters run deep, is completely apt. He isn't brash or loud or boastful or mean. He is just a kind, caring, and utterly lovely. I was charmed by his courtly manners and gentle soul.
Leah Mae Larkin was Jameson's best friend growing up until she moved away to Florida. Her life has taken her far from home, working as a model and reality TV star. She returns home to visit her father with a fiancé in tow. Once home, she begins to see her life and love are facades when faced with the simplicity of the place she has always considered home.
Leah Mae and Jamieson are absolutely beautiful together, they compliment each other perfectly. This is a second chance romance done very right. Childhood friendship has already laid the groundwork for the pair to get together quickly but naturally.
Of course, true love never runs smoothly but I was confident they would work through all obstacles.
Well done Claire, can't wait for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bootleggin fun
This is book 2 of the bootleg springs series and I’m loving this town and the bodine family ! They are a close knit family that have their ups and downs but ultimately are always there for eachother .
The town has their own way of things that sometimes make you cringe and sometimes just makes you laugh but mostly make you fall in love and want to go and visit this old country town !
Jameson is an artist - making sculptures from scrap metal and Leah Mae is a model turned actress who’s returned home after a realty tv show went wrong . It’s a friends to lovers - kind of second chance romance with a hint of angst .
Really enjoyed it ! Looking forward to more bootleg springs !!
