Shopping for a Highlander #2

Shopping for a Highlander

Rate this book
I’m a professional chickenblocker.

Except “chicken” is a euphemism.

I get paid to follow a womanizing troglodyte who thinks rules are for other people and that my pants are the next pair he’s getting into.

Dream on.

Bet your first professional job didn’t involve babysitting an extremely hot, muscle-bound Scottish Highlander with an ego the size of a kilt and a libido bigger than his…well…

Chicken.

Keeping Scottish football (that’s ‘soccer” to us Americans) player Hamish McCormick away from inappropriate scandals while he does product endorsement campaigns is my mission.

No problem.

Until Hamish decides I’m his next scandal.

And maybe more….

Shopping for a Highlander is an enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romance that opens with a surprise kiss and ends with a happily ever after. This sports comedy in the New York Times bestselling Shopping for a Billionaire world contains no actual chickens, but it has plenty of locker room scenes, a fake relationship, very real banter, and more. You do not have to have read the previous books in this world, though after you read about Amy and Hamish, you’ll want to. ;)

I swear this series just gets better and better!

Now this book can totally be read as a stand-alone, but listen dear followers....Read this whole series to fully immerse yourself in the hilariously, smoking hot goodness that is Julia Kent!

This is Hamish and Amy's story.

And what a whirlwind, slow burn, chaotic relationship! Forced proximity, heart and head competing for dominance and realizing that you have more in common than you think is at the heart of Hamish and Amy's union.

Hamish comes off as the ultimate playboy, a huge sports star that is making it with the ladies. When Hamish and Amy have run into each other at family functions over the years, sparks fly and kisses are stolen. But as the story continues, you see what a beautiful soul that Hamish has and what he will do to protect the people that he loves.

Amy is the youngest Jacoby sister, the control freak, the fresh from college MBA looking to start her career. When a career opportunity comes, it's hard for her to say no, but boy does she think she is in for the ride of her life!

I loved the bits of secrets that were revealed and the laughs that Ms. Kent provides. I love "visiting" with the Jacoby and McCormick families!

I really enjoyed Shopping For A Highlander. To be honest I didn’t read the first book in this series, Shopping For A Turkey but I doesn’t feel like I was missing anything and this story read very nicely as a standalone.

Recent MBA graduate, Amy Jacoby is about to start a new job with major growth potential, but there is one big hurdle she has to overcome. She has to try and keep Scottish football star, Hamish McCormack out of trouble.

“You have got to be kidding me–I’m going into an industry so shallow, it gives people entire careers devoted to cockblocking? I'm getting paid to babysit a penis?
To make it adhere to curfew?
To make it heel?
Obedience training wasn't in the curriculum for my MBA, and yet here I am.
The penis whisperer.”

Amy’s singular determination is both her strong point and her downfall as she tries to navigate professional integrity and personal feelings.

“You've been wound so tight for so long. So focused.”

Sweet, swoony and sometimes laugh out loud funny, Amy and Hamish’s story is completely entertaining from start to finish.

I’ve been a lover of Julia Kent’s romances since the very first Shopping for a Billionaire, so to read Amy Jacoby and Hamish MacCormick I already had high expectations.

While it took me a minute (or maybe 5 chapters) to love Hamish, I totally loved Amy Jacoby, she’s the youngest sister of the Jacoby girls, a total control freak, and driven. There’s another secret about Amy, but you have to read the book to enjoy that little spoiler.

Hamish and Amy clearly have chemistry, but Amy refuses to acknowledge it because she believes him to be nothing but a spoiled playboy used to women doing his bidding.

Amy’s new job forces her and Hamish into close proximity while she tries to keep Hamish in check and avoid any additional negative publicity until his next promotional contract is secured.

Forced proximity makes Amy realize there are more layers to Hamish than she expected and they both develop deeper feelings.

Their road to a happy ending is full of bumps, laughter, tears, but in the end they find a path that works for them, even with their crazy mothers interfering in their lives.

After having fallen in love with Hamish from the very first moment we met him, I was very surprised by how much he ticked me off in the beginning of this book. The way Hamish and Amy's story starts here, it could almost have been classified as ‘bully romance’. They certainly embodied all the passion and sparks that characterize enemies-to-lovers stories. But, like nearly every other book the author has given us, there's a deep well of emotion roiling beneath the surface of these characters. Amy may be buttoned up tight, but a lot of that is hiding vulnerabilities she doesn't want to share with the world. And, Hamish may be an arrogant player, but he's got a giant... heart that has room for all the people he considers important in his life. Together, they bring out the best and the worst in one another. They snipe and snark at each other like natural born enemies, yet he encourages her to feel her emotions and take risks, while Amy pushes him to consider more of the farther-reaching effects of his actions. I feel like I have been waiting for the story bringing these two together almost for forever. It was one hundred percent worth the wait.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Shopping for a Highlander ~ Shopping for a Highlander #2 by Julia Kent.
At the beginning of the book they say this can be read as a standalone, yes, I agree and thats how I found Julia back in 2016 with book 10 with Shopping for an Heir.Loved it so much had to purchase the others, and yes I have never looked back.

Julia is one of my top authors, her books just keep getting better and better. I'm amazed by her writting how she draws you in and the characters are so real, that you forget you are reading a book:)
Shopping for a Highlander#2 follows Amy and Hamish, will they or wont they? This is truly amazing... absolutely love this story, If you want to laugh out loud and fall hopelessly in love then Julia's books are for you. So grab you copy today you won’t be disappointmend.

Wow. Squeeeee. Happy Dance.
I loved this book, a brilliant addition to the Shopping series. Julia Kent has done it again :-)
Hamish and Amy have been supporting cast for a while, it is sooooooo good for them to get their time in print.
Hamish is the lovable rogue who thinks with his todge and wants to make every woman happy.
Amy the youngest daughter, who feels the need to control and keep it together, at all times, no exception.
In the past Hamish has always been the wind up merchant and Amy trying to control the last thread of sanity he leaves in his wake.
They are chalk and cheese and so perfect for each other.
This tale is a rollercoaster of Hamish discovering himself and Amy learning to let go, just a little bit.
I love the story arc, character development and attention to detail.
Julia kent is an exceptional writer and I cannot recommend this book, series or any of her other works enough.
Go for it. You won't regret it 💖💖💖

I was excited for this one because after reading Shopping for a Turkey I knew I wanted more from Hamish McCormick and Amy Jocoby. Julia Kent always takes me on a wonderful ride with her entertaining tales and her loveable characters and Shopping for a Highlander was everything I have come to expect and so much more.
Right from the start this couple have a love/hate relationship. Amy is given the job of keeping Hamish out of trouble but is she ready for everything Hamish along with his Randy Johnson. If Hamish is going to get the deal of a lifetime he needs to keep his romancing and shenanigans out of the media so what happens when he sets his sights on the girl who is meant to be keeping him under control……..
I loved everything about this book, I laughed, I giggled and I swooned as I caught up with old familiar faces as well as the new characters. I loved the family and their outrageous shenanigans and I’m looking forward to what’s this very talented author will give us next in this fantastic series.

Amy and Hamish get their love story!!
What an amazing hate\love story.

Once again Julia you make me smile, laugh, and even a tiny cry when I felt Amy's pain. Hamish and Amy's personalities are so rich, deep, sarcastic, and loving. I feel them while I read this story. You nailed his accent!

Thank you for a wonderful book.

5 star review Shopping For A Highlander (Shopping for a Highlander #2) by Julia Kent

From the first chapter Julia Kent had me hooked on Hamish McCormick and Amy Jacoby’s story. If there is one thing I know when I start a book by this author, I know I am in for an entertaining read that will have me laughing so much that I will cry.

After reading Shopping for a Turkey, I couldn’t wait to dive into this book. This book was so good. The family and shenanigans were as outrageous as always and made for a fun read. Not only was it funny but the chemistry that sizzles between Hamish and Amy was impossible to ignore.

Amy has been tasked with keeping Hamish out of trouble and she has her work cut out for her, particularly when he decides to focus his attention on her. There’s a fine line between love and hate and It was so much fun to watch the push and pull as they navigated their relationship. It was also great to see all the familiar faces that we have come to know and love make an appearance.

Shopping For A Highlander was a fabulous addition to one of my favourite romantic comedy series.

I'm a long time fan of Julia Kent's work - especially her Shopping for a Billionaire series, it never fails in making me laugh and in today's world, we need all the laughs!!!

First off, have you read Shopping for a Turkey? It's the prequel to this, so most definitely go read it first! Then come back here for more of Hamy? Or is it Aimish? Not sure which works 🤷🏻‍♀️
Either Or, it made me laugh!!...

We have the usual shenanigans of the Jacoby's as well as a tall, handsome, funny Scottish footballer with an over-active todger!
So what better way to control an out-of-control player, than to hire a handler!
A very pretty handler...
One who you soooo want to handle...

Let the games begin...!!

Such a funny, feel-good read and it's definitely one of my favourites from the series!!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

When you fall in love you give up things that you never thought you would. When Amy gets under Hamish's skin his todger lays low. Amy is closed off, hard working, and Hamish makes her mushy. But she must remain stoic against his flirting. After all he is a player and Amy is not. As Amy works to keep him out of trouble they start to learn more in depth things about each other. But Hamish will have a very hard time to win her heart. This is a flirtatious and fun story with great characters including their families and their mostly unwanted opinions.

I was so looking forward to this book especially after reading "Shopping for Turkey" in which we get a taste of the chemistry between Amy Jacoby and Hamish McCormick. Amy has been hired to keep Hamish out of trouble, especially scandals of any kind including those that involve his libido and jersey chasers. She is so determined to be successful that she added specific clauses to her contract to make sure that she did not be one of those who gave into his charm. The chemistry is so very much there between them still. They have a banter between them which leads to some very funny moments for example in the air port with Amy yelling at him to stop talking about his penis! I laughed so hard I was crying. There were moments like that one, moments when Hamish was so very protective of her he broke a teammates nose. I really enjoyed reading their story, Julia Kent had me wanting to know what was going to happen next so I kept reading and turning the pages. We see some of the familiar faces in this one as well as meet some new ones! Julia Kent has done it once again, she hooked me with the first book in this series and this one did not disappoint. Bring on Scotland!

If you have read any of the Shopping series, you already know that Julia Kent brings us not only rom-com, not only her version of slapstick comedy (I mean ANYTHING that Marie does tends to go sideways doesn't it?) but she also brings us heart and often times, a lesson to be learned. Amy is the youngest of the Jacoby family. She is not immune to the chaos that surrounds her family but she also knows how incredibly lucky she is to have all that love and support...no matter what. What most don't know is what goes on inside her head and why she is driven as much as she is. And soon, we find out that there is a whole lot more to Hamish that we ever expected. He comes by the nickname McWhoremick honestly but it really isn't for all the notches on his bedpost. There are plenty of truly hilarious moments and plenty of truly heartfelt moments. The mothers are on point as always and you can never dislike an Asshole Boyfriend Summit. But in the end, the story comes down to learning to trust not only others, but yourself. Bring on Scotland!!

And away we go on another laugh out loud, rom-com that makes you want to be part of the Jacoby family forever. I have loved the Jacoby's since Hot Guy and Toilet Girl met and am always amazed that every book is still fresh, funny and absolutely captivating. This is the story of Amy, the youngest of the Jacoby girls and Hamish McCormick, the Scottish cousin to Andrew and Declan McCormick and a pro football (Soccer in the US but nowhere else in the world!) player. Seven years ago, Hamish called Amy for a 3AM booty call at her sister's wedding, then at Thanksgiving he kissed her under the mistletoe. So when he shows up at Amy's MBA Graduation ceremony and kisses her for a bet, he is blown away by how he wants to do that more. His nickname is not McWhoremick for nothing!! When Amy goes for an interview for her dream job, they change the job description to minder for Hamish, to make sure he can keep his "todger" in his pants and scandal out of the media. Hamish continues to flirt but Amy resists all temptation, only to discover there is much more to Hamish and he may just be a good guy underneath. As they continue their harmless flirtation, Amy realizes she is developing serious feelings for Hamish and is willing to risk her job, and her reputation, to sleep with him. Until Amy tells Hamish her darkest secret and he rejects her and she is broken into a million pieces. Amy does what she always does one these occasions, she runs!
This is when the Jacoby bonding comes in. Holding an "asshole boyfriend summit", Jason, her dad, escaping to his man cave and Marie, just being Marie, everything gets really real, really quick. Hamish needs the help of Declan and Andrew and puts a plan in motion to win Amy back, but it might not be that easy as Amy knows that she has to learn to love herself before she can give herself to someone else. Get together an overbearing mother, who constantly texts Hamish to see if he's dead because he hasn't contacted her, Marie Jacoby, the queen of nosy mothers and this is a laugh a minute, feel good book that is impossible to put down. How I love this new series.

If you’re a fan of Julia Kent’s Shopping for a Billionaire series (and really, how could you not be?), then you have been waiting for this book a long time. And I’m here to tell you, it was definitely worth the wait! This book is a master class in how to flawlessly deliver the “enemies to lovers” trope. I have honestly never seen it done better. Everything about this book is systematically designed to draw you in and make you love every single second of it. The writing is deeply heartfelt and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time. This wonderful dichotomy of emotions is something Julia Kent absolutely excels at, and this story and these characters demonstrate that fact just beautifully.

I don’t typically use the term swoonworthy, but oh my, does it ever apply here… both to the story itself and to a certain ginger-haired footballer. In fact, Hamish just rocketed himself to the top of my admittedly very long list of book boyfriends with this book. Turns out the gorgeous Scot is beautiful both inside and out, with a heart so big, it’s rivaled only by his well-earned ego. And Amy is a multi-faceted character that just about every woman, in one way or another, can see themselves reflected in. The love between the characters is hard won, but that just makes it all the sweeter. These characters are just so incredibly well thought out and compelling. There’s a realness and a vulnerability to them that just sucks you right in to the story; you simply can’t help but become invested. You definitely don’t need to have read the other books in this series to thoroughly enjoy this story. But if you have read the previous books, then the appearance of your favorite characters from past books in this story will only serve to increase your enjoyment ten-fold. I absolutely adored this book from start to finish, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It just might be my favorite book in the series… until the next one, at least.

* I was given an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All of my opinions are honest and entirely my own.

*** ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review. ***

This was a story I’ve been looking forward to. It was worth the wait and so much more!
I love this series and when I met Hamish I was already excited to read this story even if it wasn’t on the cards yet.
The witty retorts and memorable quotes totally got me! I smiled so hard it hurt!

Hamish and Amy could bring the best but also the bad in each other. They made me laugh tons, made me swoon a lot and brought the slow burn to another level. I was definitely rooting for these two!!

Amy’s mission and job was to keep him on line. It should have been easy for Amy, focused and sharp. Unfortunately Hamish knew perfectly how to push her buttons and well she wish she was immune to his charms. Definitely not!
A strong woman who had the need to be in control met the impulsive, cocky, sexy and flirt football player, well all bets were off!

Hamish… damn you too charming and endearing guy. I loved how he could rile up Amy’s without even trying and she was giving a run for his money so amazingly. A man with a big heart, giving love to people and owning his actions whether it might lead to a scandal. Honest and real. Infuriating and sexy… le freaking sigh!

Started a wild journey to avoid new scandals, between crazy “Jersey chasers”, characters chasing the other, driving the other crazy and among all other things. I adored how the main characters could reveal so much of themselves, raw and with no filter. Full of layers, plenty of laughing out loud moments and beautiful emotions driven by their chemistry and banter off the charts!

I have so much love for this story. An hilarious and offbeat chaos where both Hamish and Amy navigated through it with passion and humor, great friends and family (loud, noisy and funny).

I’m just a little in love with this couple!

Loved Hamish and Amy's romance! From start to finish, this was a wild ride full of humor, heart and heat, and it's great to keep the Jacoby/McCormick family stories going.

Amy rightfully thinks Hamish is nothing but an overgrown man-child based on his behavior, and Hamish thinks Amy needs to loosen the reins and give up a little bit of control. And they're both right. They've had a push/pull relationship for years, since Shannon and Declan got married and Hamish tried to pick Amy up at the wedding. But when Amy gets hired to be Hamish's "handler" to keep him in line, the sparks between the two of them explode.

The growth of these two characters throughout this book is so well developed. Neither of them changes overnight, and neither of them changes against their will. They grow together because of each other's support, because of their shared experiences, and because they can be themselves with each other. I loved how they truly lifted each other up and wanted happiness for the other.

Julia Kent has delivered another knock-out hit in the Shopping Universe, full of all of the humor and heart that you expect from the Jacoby and McCormick families.

What can I say?
As always Julia Kent has given us another brilliant book in the Shopping series.
Yes, you can read this as a standalone and, honestly, if you haven't read the series from the beginning this is probably the easiest of the books to do that. But please, do yourself a favour and read from the start of the series and get to know this group of family and friends. Having been thoroughly won over by Declan in the very first book, Hamish had a lot to live up to in my eyes. He wasn't doing too great at the start - I found his attitude of doing women a favour by giving them pleasure just a little grating. Moving on and he really is a sweetheart. Passionate, kind, generous and lovable. He and Amy are cute. She gets to shine without the rest of her her family overpowering her. I hope we get to know Hamish's family too, they sound like they will fit right in! I also like how Hamish fits in with Declan and Andrew. They should prove interesting together moving forward 😊
I was extremely lucky to be given an arc in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Shopping for a Highlander - Julia Kent
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From first page to last, Julia Kent delivers and entertains in her inimitable style with Book 2 in the Shopping for a Highlander series.

I was already hooked after reading the previous book and all the “shopping” series but Julia Kent upped her game with Hamish McCormick and Amy Jacoby’s story.

I couldn’t wait to dive into this book with all the family and hilarious shenanigans and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Not only was it crack up funny but the chemistry between Hamish and Amy was impossible to ignore, it sizzled and popped on the page.

Amy needed to keep Hamish out of trouble and he doesn’t make it easy for her, particularly when he decides to make her his sole focus of his attention. Their relationship develops faster than the back and forth of a tennis match but this push pull was such fun to ‘view’.
It was also wonderful to see all the familiar characters from the previous books that we have come to enjoy like old friends, making an appearance.

Shopping For A Highlander was a wonderfully fun and sharply hilarious addition to one of my favourite romantic comedy series. Would definitely recommend reading it.

Buckle up, buttercup, because you are not ready for Hamish McCormick! His magnetic charm, insouciant approach to life and outrageous shenanigans will shock you while keeping you in stitches, but this Scottish soccer player's heart is bigger than the Loch Ness monster.

And Amy Jacoby is definitely not ready for Hamish. He flirts with women of any age and basks in the glory of his fame, and Amy had been charged with corralling all that, along with his Randy Johnson. Yes, that's the euphemism you think it is, but if Hamish is going to get an endorsement deal worth millions, he needs to keep things zipped up.

Amy and Hamish are night and day, oil and water, and lighter fluid and matches. It's Amy's first job after completing her master's, so she has to get this right. She's now the first line of defense against jersey chasers and compromising situations that might get caught on camera. And Hamish does not make her job easy. In fact, he delights in winding her up, which is surprisingly easy for a gal already so tightly wound.

Whenever I read a J K book, I know I’m in for an amazing reading experience. Her characters so are outrageous, loveable, and larger than life that it's impossible not to snort, guffaw, and laugh so much you need to cross your legs. Then, at just the right places, she manipulates the reader's emotions with touching, heartfelt gems that make the story the very best of emotional rides. Hilarious, hot and heartfelt, Hamish and Amy are just what you need to start the new year with a grin on your face and a happy sigh in your heart!

Amy & Hamish... From the French kiss that starts the story (yes, a kiss in front of her parents... & in front of her date...), to being a todger babysitter (you can use your imagination for that!).

“I get a kiss for being a decent guy? How good do I have to be to get a shag?”

Amy is hired to be his fat coo in charge of his rogue willie. It’s a lucrative job, so she has to be successful.... & of course, this isn’t going to happen... Since just going for a quick run can easily end in being bloody naked - & I do mean bloody, by the way.

“I thought ye hated me,” he whispers.

“I did.”

“Then I like being hated by ye,” he says, before kissing me again...

I’d write more quotes from this book, except that my computer might spontaneously combust.

Side note: I completely agree with Amy’s thoughts on V - how it should not be related to the “taking” of anything.

<3 the ending!

What is happening in Amy's life at the start of the book? How does she know Hamish? Who are Davis and Shannon? Who are they to Amy? Oh, Lordy, not even 1/5th of the way into the story and I could not stop shaking my head. My eyes were like saucers on the flight. Oh my gosh, things got really bad, in a very funny way, once they got to baggage claim when the flight landed. I could not stop laughing. I was crying I was laughing so hard. The bomb comment was the best part! Oh goodness, I ran a gamut of emotions reading this story! I cannot wait for the next one. Read to see what happened!

This book ended up being so mild I’m going to have to read something absolutely unhinged now.

Pro: parts of this book were so funny I was wheezing and cry laughing. Shane East is the GOAT and that is 3/4 of why I even read this.

Con: sentences like this from the 29yo FMC who is a runner —“you’ll break my heart but you won’t break my hymen!“ caused me physical pain.

This story was so much fun to read and I enjoyed every word of it. Hamish and all of this crazy Scottish phrases and words had me cracking me, it was like I was back in Scotland.

Hamish is a Footballer at the top of his game and the endorsements are coming in like crazy. However, he has a reputation of being a ladies man so Amy is hired to watch over him and make sure he stays in line without any more scandals. The two know each other, his cousin married into her family, and also have shared a kiss or two in the past. But Amy is there to be a professional and make sure her job gets done.

Hamish and Amy are absolutely hilarious and I loved their banter. They are perfectly made for each other and I smiled throughout this whole book. Even when Hamish was being a numpty. They definitely have a love hate relationship that worked so well for these two. It had me cracking up and turning the pages to find out the ending. “Shopping for the Highlander” is rom-com gold and I hope we get more from them in future books.

I freaking LOVED this book! Julia Kent has always been one of my go-to reads when I need to put a smile on my face, and her latest masterpiece is no exception. Shopping for a Highlander is an entertaining, hilarious ride that had me swooning as hard as I was laughing. I couldn’t get enough of flirty Scottish footballer Hamish and his love/hate banter with the tightly wound Amy!

SHOPPING FOR A HIGHLANDER continues Amy and Hamish´s story after the Thanksgiving chaos and takes us along on a fun ride with many hysterical and heart-warming moments that lead to their HEA because what´s more fun than Amy´s new job being Hamish´s cockblocker and making sure he keeps it in his pants while still fighting her own attraction to him! What can go wrong, right?

This story is fun, entertaining, sexy, flirtatious with the right balance of steam and feels. It’s a slow burn enemy to lovers that with all its teasing and sexual innuendos leaves you gratified at the end.

Again, I do recommend listing as this absolute delight of a RomCom is only enhanced by the fantastic performances of these two amazingly talented narrators. OMG, Emma Wilder & Shane East killed it! Seriously had me dying of laughter! Julia Kent's writing gave them so much creativity to play these roles so perfectly. The comedic timing is on point, the different accents add to the charm, the emotions hit where they are supposed to and the interpretation of bringing each character to life is just chef´s kiss. I adore Shane but Emma just is da bomb! Her imitation of Hamish brought me to my knees with laughter!

amazingly funny and heartfelt

Loved this book , it’s well written and flows logically, can’t wait for the next one in the series. Amy is all sorts of constricted and controlled with a mother who is the exact opposite. She can’t let loose and she is fearful of trust. She has a lot of issues with emotional strangulation. Hamish is impulsive but healthy with feelings. He sometimes doesn’t think things through, but he’s good natured and generous to a flaw. The story gets serious at the end with emotion’s rising. You like these characters and are invested in their well being. Can’t wait for the next book.
