Dear fellow lovers of historical mysteries: It's elementary, my dear reader. What else, after reaching the age of joyful retirement is a refined gentleman to do with his time but write more stories about Sherlock Holmes or the fascinating world of New York City between the wars?
Craig Stephen Copland confesses that he discovered Sherlock Holmes when, some time in the muddled early 1960s he pinched his older brother's copy of the immortal stories and was forever afterward thoroughly hooked. He first visited New York City in the summer of 1963 and was forever afterward thoroughly hooked.
He is very grateful to his high school English teachers at Scarlet Heights Collegiate Institute in Toronto who inculcated in him a love of literature and writing, and even inspired him to be an English major at the University of Toronto. There he was blessed to sit at the feet of both Northrup Frye and Marshall McLuhan, and other great literary professors, who led him to believe that he was called to be a high school English teacher.
It was his good fortune to come to his pecuniary senses, abandon that goal and pursue a varied professional career that took him to over one hundred countries and endless adventures. He considers himself to have been and to continue to be one of the luckiest men on God's good earth.
A few years back he took a step in the direction of Sherlockian studies and joined the Sherlock Holmes Society of Canada--also known as the Toronto Bootmakers. In May of 2014, this esteemed group of scholars announced a contest for the writing of a new Sherlock Holmes mystery. Although he had never tried his hand at fiction before, Craig entered and was pleasantly surprised to be selected as one of the winners. Having enjoyed the experience he decided to write more of the same and went on a mission to write a new Sherlock Holmes mystery novel that was related to and inspired by each of the sixty stories in the original Canon.
Having competed that task—sixty short novels and twenty short stories—in the autumn of2023, he set out on a new quest. He is currently writing a series of mystery/thriller books set in New York City during the era between World Wars One and Two. Each story takes place in a subsequent year. The series began in 1920 and will end in 1941.
While writing these stories, he and his fabulous wife have been living in Toronto, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, New York, Bahrain, Kuala Lumpur and the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. They might settle down when he turns ninety. Or not.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 20211888, 221B Baker St. Dr. John Hamish Watson (husband, Sherlock's BMF) was asking Mr. William “Sherlock” Scott Holmes (Scotland Yard consulting detective) why he was not helping to try & solve the Jack the Ripper case.
Sherlock was congratulating Mrs. Mary Angel (20+, nee Sutherland) of her article in the Rugby News.
Mr. Hosmer Angel (husband, Thomas Cook’s Travel Service skilled typist) played rugby.
Mary traveled with the team/husband & wrote about the games.
1 trip the Captain of the Oceana (Steamship) checked the passenger list, Mary’s name was on it, but not Hosmer’s.
Mary hired Sherl0ck to find him.
Dr. John Hamish Watson (husband, Sherlock's BMF) asked Sherlock if he solved the case.
Hosmer had returned to Mary.
1-day Billy (young page) answered the front door & it was Bedelia Windibank & Mrs. Gertrude Angel (friend).
They were concerned about their children.
Mrs. Angel is missing.
DI Greg Lestrade (Scotland Yard) stopped by the Sherlock's flat.
A young man/woman were found with their heads chopped off.
They were ID as Mary Angel & Hosmer Angel.
DI Lestrade took Sherlock & Dr. Watson to the crime scene.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written 19th Century Sherlock Holmes mystery book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great 19th Century Sherlock Holmes mystery movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. To be continued. An extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

The book is amazingly written, articulate and loaded.Craig Copeland Series is rapidly establishing that his stories rank with the very best of Holmes pastiche series.
He (Copland) continues to keep the mystique and intrigue of Sherlock Holmes alive and well in his pastiche series of books. This edition, discussses about a young woman to find her missing husband; a few days later her husband hires him to find his wife, who is now missing.
Dr. John Watson and Sherlock’s brother Mycroft came to the scene, Holmes uses his famous deductive reasoning skills to solve multiple murders, theft, and kidnapping. When you start one of his works be ready for strong plots, nonstop action and suspense and sufficient twists and turns which the author makes enjoyable. Mr. Copland once again delivers a mystery definitely worth reading.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2018I write a lot of reviews and also write pulp fiction.
My reading interests range across many genres.
I have read and reviewed many of the stories in
the, New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries, and will continue
until I have gone all the way through them.
A Case of Identity Theft, has a strange cast of characters,
to go along with the regulars.
The storyline is a bit complex, but keeps the interest level high.
It is a relatively short story, so it makes for a quick afternoon read.
Enjoy it.

With the help of Dr. John Watson and Sherlock’s brother Mycroft, Holmes uses his famous deductive reasoning skills to solve multiple murders, theft, and kidnapping. - Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2014This is an excellent outing. To my mind Craig Copeland is rapidly establishing that his stories rank with the very best of Holmes/Watson pastiche writers. When you start one of his works be ready for strong plots, nonstop action and suspense and sufficient twists and turns in the plots that attempting to make predictions as to what will occur is a total waste of time. Interspersed throughout are sly humor and misdirections that remind you that things are not as they seem which will keep you on the edge of your chair.
Definitely buy the book and the rest of his offerings although I still have a few misgivings about A Scandal In Fordlandia. The rest are exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional Holmes but a modern style
Enjoyed this tale. Fits well into the original genre but has some throwaway humour that Conan Doyle lacked. Must read some more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite Sherlockian
Well written and just as convincing as Conan Doyle might have conceived. Just one criticism however, the occasional north American word has managed to slip in,but this in no way spoils an enjoyable tread.

Yet another gem from Stephen Copland, his stories take me back to the original books, definitely the best of the new Sherlock Holmes books, an excellent read.
