- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2018Shandra receives a call from one of the Gallery owners wanting to speak with Shadra about her pottery pieces for the upcoming art event. When Shandra arrives at the Gallery she unexpectedly stumbles on a murder scene. She is found at the scene and immediately handcuffed by an eager rookie office. Once Detective Ryan arrives he knows that Shandra is not the murderer as she has no blood on her hands or clothes. Shandra keeps showing up in Ryans investigation so he decides to allow her to help him in a limited capacity. There is instant chemistry between these two.
I really liked this book, I have read several other books in this series prior to reading this first book. I really enjoyed seeing how Shandra and Ryan originally met. I love the characters; my favorite being Shandra. She is a strong female lead who is very in touch with her artistic side and is learning to embrace her Native American Heritage. The descriptions of the setting are well done, you can really picture everything as if you are there. The mystery has a great pace with several twists and turns and suspects along the way. I was very surprised at the end who the actual killer is. There is something for everyone offered in this book… romance, paranormal, suspense, animals, female leads, small-town charm, and Native American Heritage. I recommend this book to all mystery lovers.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2016Shandra Higheagle, a part-Nez Pierce Indian, becomes a suspect in a murder when an overeager cop finds her at the scene of a gallery owner’s murder. Shandra, a potter, had gone to the gallery to drop off a pot at the gallery owner’s request. She gets ruled out as a suspect, but a friend is next in line and Shandra can’t stop herself from helping the friend.
This book has some mysticism to it – Shandra’s recently-deceased Nez Pierce grandmother keeps appearing to her in dreams, guiding her to help solve the crime. I was fascinated by Shandra trying to walk in two worlds. She struggles with accepting herself because her mother and stepfather made her hide her Indian heritage. The cop on the case, Ryan Greer, puts more faith in her visions than she does. When Shandra starts having dreams about Ryan, the tension ratchets up and the race is on to find the true killer.
This started to fall a little more on the “romance-dressed-up-as-mystery” side for me, but the plot was interesting enough, and the characters likable and engaging, so I continued to read. I’m glad I did. This was an easy, entertaining read, and I’m glad to see I have at least three more books to go in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018Native American Shandra, heritage, of having visions, is finally going to be acknowledge in this story. She is a potter, has special clay from her farm up in the hills, with the addition of Lil.After a gala opening of an art exhibit, the owner is murdered, Detective Ryan, is on the case. Feeling she is not telling him everything. He understands, when she finally tells him, of her visions. Thru her visions, she knows what the weapon is, the why comes from searching many clues, and the money trail. There’s was a lot of reasons, power, greed. A great story, you love the characters, love the Native American Touch.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2021I found the story to be reasonably engaging, and the writing is better than the majority of books to be found on Amazon. That being said, it isn't a great book. It is refreshing to find a story of a slowly developing romance, rather than the trashy garbage most writers seem inclined to push off as romantic. One complaint I have is with the unrealistic portayal of the female character. She was annoying, not remotely likeable, foolishly stupid and careless, yet arrogant and bold. That seems to be how many women authors choose to portray women, these days. It is ridiculous. For that reason, I can't give more than three stars. I would have given two and a half, were that option given.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2016I’ve been reading mysteries for so long, that it’s a rare thing when an author can confuse me so much that I don’t know who did it. But Paty Jager did in this one.
The story line was well thought out and well written. And I just love the characters. Shandra Higheagle is an interesting, complex woman who is made a good life for herself. Ryan Greer also has a complex past and present. I really enjoyed the way they worked off of each other and get to know each other. Their chemistry is so great that I know the relationship between these two is going to work out well.
I can highly recommend Double Duplicity. This is one of those books that kept me up all night reading to the very end. It’s definitely going on my list of books to save and reread, and few books make it to that list now days. I’m headed off to find the rest of the books in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2022Sandra is a potter . Her grandmother Ella once told her she had the sight. Sandra was raised by her mother and stepfather. Her father was a Native American rodeo participant with the barrel and other skills. Sandra being half Native American had grown up with the stigma fostered by her mother and stepfather. Grandmother Ella took her during her rebellious period and tried to be the voice she needed to guide her. After her death, Sandra used her artistic ability to fashion her pots, the inner vision she used to design the patterns seemed normal but her mother and others turned her away from whole history. An art dealer is murdered before a big show, Sandra caught on the scene as she made the discovery becomes one of several suspects. A drug agent helps confirm the fact that the art dealer had skeletons in her closet. How were the suspects connected and why. This was a free book to read and review. I have no connection to anything involved. This was an interesting cozy mystery to start the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars good, good.
A fast paced easy to read story with a good plot. A couple of things a good proof reader should have picked up, but overall, quite entertaining and also clean with romance as well as murder, a great combination.

5.0 out of 5 stars great mystery
I loved the mystery and the romance. I enjoyed learning about Native American history and mythology.

4.0 out of 5 stars strong and confident main characters.
I found this book different from a lot of mysteries in that more than one main character was strong and confident. This helped make the story much more interesting. I look forward to reading the next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Light but enjoyable
A light enjoyable read if that is what you are looking for. The characters don't feel fully realised. I may read another in this series, just depends on how light a read I'm in the mood for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read
An interesting main character. The plot was entertaining but the rest of the characters were not so distinctive and I found it hard to remember who they all were. Hopefully later books in the series will improve.
