Lennox wants to kill me.
Xander wants to break me.
Raine just wants to feel alive.

Amazing addition to the Blackwood Institute world!

Amazing addition to the Blackwood Institute world!
I absolutely adore J Rose’s writing so I knew another spin off of the Blackwood Institute world would be right up my alley. We start off with our FMC, Ripley, sitting down with a reporter 10 years in the future from when our main storyline takes place. Ripley is a really fascinating character as you can tell that she has so much pain buried from the things she’s been through, but has had to build up this tough chick reputation to survive Harrowdean Manor. What’s really amazing about J Rose’s reverse harem stories is they’re not just written for the smut factor. These are deep characters with complex emotions and personalities that I love seeing brought to light as the story unfolds. Ripley still tries to open herself up to people despite being burned in the past and the dangers surrounding her position in the Manor. Raine is such a unique MMC and I thought the disability representation with his blindness/vision impairment really added to his POV chapters with how he thinks, feels, and approaches having feelings for Ripley. Lennox and Xan are really more volatile relationships that have come from Ripley’s past, but they have me no less curious about how it will progress. A sociopath and a sadist?? Yeah that’s going to be interesting. We got a pretty stressful cliffhanger so I am super impatient to get to book 2! Of note, I did do the audiobook for this one — Sophie Hunter Scott and John Hartley did an amazing job with the narration. They 100% brought these characters to life!

This book was so awesome. It ties in nicely with the Blackwood.

Ripley was such an awesome character I loved her take no crap attitude with most of the medical staff. Also she still had a heart and really didn’t wanna do what she was doing in my opinion. I love how she changed her mind on things when she met Raine. It was love at first sight with her even though throughout the book she try’s to play it off to herself.

Raine was such a sweet character he’s also one that still will always tell you what’s what regardless of his eye sight. I loved how he was soft on Ripley from day one. Those two were such fresh air in a dark time with the characters. His nickname for her was adorable. You could tell how much they liked each other throughout the book. By the end they would do basically anything for each other.

Lennox he’s a set in his own way kinda character. He knows what’s right and wrong and no one is gonna change his mind. His first in counter with Ripley was great especially when she attacked him an Raine had the smirk on his face. As the book went on he was confronted by his feelings he has for Ripley that he absolutely didn’t want but in the end gave in. With Ripley and Lennox they’re got a cold but both wanted each other.

Xander he was my favorite psychopath. All the composure he had with everything going on was great. The relationship between him and the two guys was amazing he was like the leader who kept them in line especially Lennox well he tried to Raine didn’t need to be kept in line. He was infatuated with Ripley from day one. He tried to act as if he didn’t care about her but she broke his shell and he started feeling again.

The chemistry with the characters is really good we each one has a specific relationship with the other one neither has the same with the other. They behind the scenes with what was happening with the medical staff that they find out was great how it all came about it felt like they all needed that push to confront their feelings for one another. They knew what was happening but had their investigation to get more information and who was involved.

The surprise at the end I don’t see at all now I’m wondering who they’re looking for unless I missed it. This book is extremely dark an extremely awesome. It’s also RH an has lots of TW in it so if you have any please read the Trigger Warnings Before you start.

I love the twist of this! It starts out ten years after, and she is doing an interview about what happened at the facility! I love it! I am curious to see what their ending is. I feel like you can always have an idea about who she will end up with but for me there is one wild card, and I’m unsure! Ripley is the FMC and she runs the show, just trying to survive in this messed up place! Will what she had to do for survival end up killing her?

Audiobook review: Narrated by: Sophie Hunter Scott & John Hartley

    “Look into the camera, Ripley.
Tell us what happened in Harrowdean Manor.”

“If they’re the villains in my story, am I the villain in theirs?”

I am absolutely blown away by this story. It's my first from this author and I will definitely be diving into her backlist. The storytelling was so well done, starting with the interview and then hearing the story from Ripley's POV. I was locked in and did not want to turn this off for a second. The plot was full of action and the progression of the story was great. The relationships were diverse and deep with histories unfolding in a way that keeps you guessing. There is so much to uncover between all the main characters and it is all interesting and unique.

The audio aspect of this brought it up to another level. The narrators were absolutely phenomenal. The way they gave each character their own unique personalities is everything I look for in an audiobook. So many vast emotions in this story and they are all brought to the forefront expertly by these two. As hard as it will be avoid book two in ebook version because I need to know what happens next...I just know the audio will be worth the wait.

First and foremost, I loveeeeeed this book

If you loved the Blackwood Institute series, be prepared to love this one even more.

One of my absolute favorite elements of this story is that all of the characters are villains, and everytime I thought they were going to become good again, they stuck with their villiany. These are characters who are truly morally black and I can't help but love them for it.

Even though this is the same universe as the Blackwood Institute series, this book does not at all seem like a copy and paste version of the other books. It is both extremely unique and has the perfect amount of connectioning elements to the other books to make you feel like you're in the same BI universe.

There are so many intriguing elements of these characters backstory that watching everything unfold had me eagerly turning the pages as fast as possible.

Ripley - I don't even know what to say about her except that I think I'm in love with her. She is truly a flawed character and cog in the machine but I can't get enough of her. I couldn't help but to root for her even when she was doing extremely bad things. I just want her to be happy even though I'm sure she has an even darker journey ahead.

Xander, Lennox, and Raine - They were all so unique and I love how their relationships with Ripley are all at different stages. Ripley and Raine together are *chef's kiss* I couldn't get enough of them together. Our resident stalker Xander is also perfection. I absolutely love how he grew even more enamored with the new version of Ripley compared to the one he thought he knew before because she is stronger now.
Lennox.....oh man is there a lot of issues there and honestly I appreciated how Ripley held him accountable for his actions through most of the book because he did something super messed up but I also love how they leaned on each other towards the end.

Overall this book was absolute perfection and I cannot wait for book 2

Blackwood is one of my all-time fav trilogies, so best believe I jumped on Sin Like the Devil, on release day.
And it did not disappoint in the slightest, I flew through this book!
Our FMC Ripley is the anti-hero, and J Rose blew this twist out of the water, finally a female anti-hero!!!
The trauma is written in a way that is real, honest, and raw. This is one of the things I love most about this author.
The relationships were beautifully broken, and the storyline was 10/10.
Plus, a blind MMC! Raine, Nox, and Xander were delicious, angst-filled, dangerous and hot!
I loved this book, I can't wait for book 2

5 ⭐ - tbh just all the stars

This book is the first book in the Harrowdean Manor duet and it was such an amazing read. J Rose’s writing is so special and I fall in love with it, her stories, and all of her characters every single time. And this time was no different.

What I think is so special about J Rose's writing is that she can make me go through every emotion possible while reading her books. From being anxious to being angry to being devastated to being in love, I went through everything in this book. The way that she makes me sympathize with even the most psychopathic characters and fall in love with them as well as going through the stages of hating a character to sympathising with them to finally loving them is something so special.

Sin Like The Devil is set, time-wise, during the second and third books of the Blackwood Institute trilogy - giving us some of the scenes that happened in BI from the Harrowdean Manor perspective. And while it had a similar vibe to Blackwood since both of those books played in these corrupt psych wards that the same corporation funded, it had such a different feel to it - Blackwood gave us a bit more time before we jumped into the violence and the angst that came with everything that happened in the institute. In contrast, with Harrowdean we jumped straight into the time where everything felt very uncertain. The manor was on high alert with a lot of violence and volatile feelings happening from the get go.

Ripley, Lennox, Raine, and Xander are all so special and different, each having their own issues and then bringing their issues and feelings towards each other into the mix, making it such an explosive situation. And I can’t wait to read more about them and how their relationships will develop in the setting that they are in in the next book.

I have been dying for this book since the moment it was announced, and have been impatiently waiting for this, s0 I just had to begin this as soon as this came in and this book did not disappoint.

At this point, I will devour any book by J Rose without question, I absolutely adore her writing style and her books always blow me away and have me experiencing a range of emotions.

I would recommend beginning with The Blackwood Institute, this book is a part of the shared universe and there are also mentions of characters in Sabre Security although this can be read in any order, I would recommend reading these in order for the best reading experience.

This book was absolutely everything to me, this is a true enemies to lovers romance, these characters (bar Raine) absolutely hate each other and there is also a substantial revenge plot in this book. Typically I do not read books with revenge plots very often but she masterfully weaves this plot and in my opinion this was done perfectly, the push and pull between these characters was phenomenal and when they break, I couldn't help but fan girl.

These characters are extremely traumatised in their own way and you cannot help but fall for these characters immediately. These characters are morally grey, and they are anti-heroes and I loved that this also applies very much to our FMC Ripley as well as the MMC's.

I highly highly recommend picking this up, I absolutely devoured this so quickly and I already want to read this again from the very beginning. I cannot wait to see how this continues in book two.
