Son of a Gun: A Marked Men and The Point crossover novel (The Forever Marked Series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 490 ratings

Heavy is the head that inherits the crown.

The only thing on Daire Archer’s mind when she pulled a disappearing act on Christmas was proving she was worthy of being her father's daughter. She was born an Archer, which was a blessing and a curse, and Daire was determined to show everyone she deserved to carry the legacy that came with her name.

There is power in a name, and being an Archer meant Daire needed to do better, to be better. At least, that’s what she thought she needed, until a boy from nowhere—with a name that meant nothing—showed her that she was already pretty great just the way she was.

Campbell has always rejected everything concerning his maniacal father and his troubled past. When he left Nowhere, he was certain he wanted a nice, quiet life free from the only things he'd ever known: violence and bloodshed. He thought he needed to be a better man. He wondered if there was a kinder, gentler version of himself under his thick armor of scars and tattoos.

It wasn't until he started chasing Daire Archer all over hell and back that Campbell realized he needed to be a man who was better at being bad than everyone else in his troubled world.

Because now, he had a problematic princess to protect. One with an uncanny ability for finding trouble. Where Daire is concerned, being a good guy isn't necessary.

Where’s Waldo? Another 5 ⭐️ Book
Ok. This is probably my favorite book out of the series so far. Campbell and Daire are just….. everything. This brings me back to Respect a little bit. Campbell has a subtle hint of Booker in him and Daire is Rule full and through, but she’s also so much like Karsen. I loved seeing Daire grow into her own person and that her family finally sees her as the Not-So-Perfect Archer (I won’t say “Bad” Archer…. There’s no such thing in my eyes). I enjoyed learning more about Campbell and his roots. I hated reading what he and his siblings went through, but I believe his upbringing helped to shape him into the man he is. Along with the help of a few choice people!! Daire needed to get away to truly find herself and Campbell needed to go back home to solidify himself. The emotional rollercoaster is real and the hangover you feel from the ups and downs makes you forget that this is a book. I also absolutely love the cameos from characters from other books… No Spoilers…. But I fangirled a few times. While this is not a continuation of any of their stories, it’s nice to see where they are in their lives. Definitely looking forward to Zowen’s book now….. -Nohely

Son of Gun by Jay Crownover

All I can say is that I am happy that you wrote Daire and Campbell’s story.
Jay is a great storyteller of sharing Daire and Campbell finding each other through Campbell having to rescue her in a snow storm, the hotel room scenario and the road trip.
I loved Daire’s dad Rule was really in her corner as she tried to find herself. I loved Campbell he did not talk much and that as the story continued Daire realized who Campbell was as well as herself. Daire meeting Campbell’s family ( that family doesn’t have to be the one you’re born into). So many things were touched on in Jay Crownover manner. Overall, it’s a wonderful story with a happy ending. Thank you Jay for writing this second generation story and we saw a tiny bit of Rule and Shaw.
It’s five stars for me it’s an authentic Jay Crownover story. I enjoyed every word. I can read this story over again when I am in a book slump.

This book is my favorite out of the 2nd generation series, and I loved how it mixed in the Point!

The most interesting thing about this series is seeing the characters from the 1st generation age and become parents , but still remind me why I feel in love with them in the original series.

Daire and Campbell’s chemistry was great, and I loved seeing them developed into fully fleshed out characters. Great book!

I should start off by saying that I am die hard Jay Crownover fan. I discovered Rule almost ten years ago and have been hooked ever since. So, I was very excited about the 2nd generation series. I think her writing is just getting better, which is amazing considering how good it was in the first place. And now I am almost 50 years old and still loving these characters, anxiously waiting for the next book to come out.

Son of a Gun is a true Jay Crownover story. You can't wait to see how it ends while simultaneously wanting it to go on forever. You know the two lead characters are going to end up together. You are rooting for them the entire time. And you wish you had a Campbell in your life because he's a good guy and he's sexy as hell. He reminded me a little of Wheeler, which is a very good thing since he is one of my favorites!

If you are looking for a reason to read this book, I can promise you a great story, characters we can all identify with, and enough spice to keep you coming back for more!

Daire disappears on Christmas Eve and all she wants is to feel worthy of the Archer name. Daire wants to prove her worth by herself without the Archer privilege. When there is an incident at home Daire gets to speak her mind and apologize to her family who in turn apologize to her. So this time when Daire sets of to prove herself things are calmer. Campbell just wants to be with her and support her. Lots of emotions in her story and lots of action as well. A must read!

This story was bound to be one of my favourites because, Daire Archer (daughter of Rule and Cora - the one that started it all). The problem with Daire Archer is she’s so much like her parents, and Rule and Cora seem to have forgotten what it was like being young and restricted by their parents rules and views. The pressure’s too much for Daire though and she does a runner, leaving all those she loves (and who love her) behind over the Christmas holiday. What she didn’t expect was Campbell to barrel into her life and turn it upside down (in the best possible way). Sent to keep her on track and out of trouble Campbell learns there’s so much more to Daire than he initially thought. Enemies to lovers, opposites attract, sort of forbidden love story that I absolutely loved.
Crossovers are a definite it’s win for me, especially when it involves two of my favourite Jay Crownover series’s. It was always going to be 5 stars from me.

This is a great standalone, but man is it an AMAZING next generation book. Ahhh, all the feels. I loved these two together. I got a bit annoyed at the mom(which is shocking bc she is a fav og of mine). I love how this was about the h finding herself as much as it was a love story. I want to know if the H ends up working in the Point. I want to know if the h gets her dominate hand back. So many questions...I want more in the H's sister, but I'm super excited for the next book.

Jay has done it again! Wow! Daire and Campbell and we get to see so many other characters. Of course, Rule but then you find the connection of Karsten to Dom. Or maybe I forgot that one in her book. I knew Harlan and Vernon’s name but could not remember where. Of course we get to catch up with them and they brought it back to Rule with Remy. Finally Cable! Noble, we need her story. The story was great and it moved along with never a dull moment. Jay has found her groove and I want to keep reading everything she writes. This was a great addition to her marked men/saint books, which I always reread. Read this book and you will be in taken on a wonderful journey

Whilst Jay would write in the last part of the book that this series has not been as popular as the original Marked Men I feel that this book will be the saving grace.
It pulls in characters from other series and is a nice cross over between the point and the marked men series.
Can it be read alone - yes-ish but I would recommend that you start at the beginning of at least the 2nd generation if not the Marked Men Series followed by Saints of Denver.
If you like series (which I do) then read all of Jay's books as they interlink nicely.
Well down Ms Crownover - you have recaptured my attention!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect crossover between the two worlds!
Reviewed in Canada on August 19, 2023
I got tired of waiting for the paperback to come out, so I decided to buy it on Kindle and finally start it. I wasn’t expecting it to read in one reading especially since I was kind of tired, but guess what? I did it. I stay up past 2am to finish it and Jay… We need to talk like right now hahahaha

I started this book without any expectations because I know with Jay’s books, you never really know where it will go with only the blurb and boy are you in for a ride.

This book is a crossover between characters from Marked Men and The Point and I really like those crossovers and this book was just a perfect blend of the two worlds.

The interaction between Daire and Campbell seemed to come so naturally between the two of them and I feel like Daire was really what he needed even without knowing he needed it because he is so used to be the protector and it showed throughout the book.

I liked how each character seemed to be different and alike at the same time. I loved that Daire got her book because seeing everything going through her mind ever since the accident spoke volume and how she felt and then how everything was handled; it just gives you a new perspective into why she felt the way she did and the reason she needed to go.

I also loved how Campbell needed to follow her even if he wasn’t thrilled about it because without knowing, she forced him to deal with things he might have not dealt with because he didn’t feel like he deserved it.

They clearly needed each other, and it showed and every little things they did or said or went through together.

I also enjoyed seeing old characters from the Point in this and I needed to remind myself that they got older because it confused me, and I had to stop and remind myself… they are older; it’s normal hahaha

And that ending? Okay, I will stop there because yeah, the ending will make you need the next book and I don’t mean maybe… I really mean it; you WILL need the next book.

There are some characters that were talked about, and I was like… I feel like their story could be interesting and would like to learn more about them; maybe in the future, Jay would be open to do some small novellas about them and short stories if they ever inspire her.

Overall, I highly recommend that you fall back in love with the Marked Men series and then follow it with the Forever Marked series about their kids because they are just everything. I really love how Jay tackles hard subjects in her books in a way that makes you understand more and feel for each character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daire to come from nowhere
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 21, 2023
Wow this really was an absolutely fabulous read. Waiting was so worth it. The author Jay has such a fantastic literal imagination to link so many previous characters together. The two main characters and some of their side buddies are second generation, and have grown into a mixture and sad of their sometimes rebellious parents. We meet Daire running away on Christmas Eve as she can’t face her family as she is ashamed of her behaviour, and wants to find herself. Without thinking in a snow blizzard up a mountain is not really the ideal place to be. However she has a tracker on her placed there by a guy she was observing looking after Hyde’s family. Campbell is the guy with no last name, and comes from nowhere. Parts of the story could be considered dark, but it is so well written and possible cruelty is necessary. The drama and suspense is teeth grinding, and the characters are all strong, alpha in both genders!! The love between the two main characters is so tender, and the build slow and positive. Campbell has some mega tats and Daira is an artist. Daughter of Rule. We have met most of the characters in previous books and it is most definitely essential to catch up if you haven’t. You can read as a stand alone but this is not really advisable. Read all and enjoy. Well worth more than 5 stars.

The book is amazing. It crossover two worlds that I love.
The main characters are so good together, Daire and Campbell are very interesting and fascinating.
Loved the cameos from characters from the others' books. It was like seeing an old friend. The cameo that i loved to hate was pretty good and made me want to re read his book.
Jay did a good job with this one. It was worth the wait.
