About the authors
A Yorkshireman living in the rural green hills of Lancashire, Michael Wombat is a man of huge beard. He has a penchant for good single-malts, inept football teams, big daft dogs and the diary of Mr. Samuel Pepys. Abducted by pirates at the age of twelve he quickly rose to captain the feared privateer ‘The Mrs. Nesbitt’ and terrorised the Skull Coast throughout his early twenties. Narrowly escaping the Revenue men by dressing as a burlesque dancer, he went on to work successively and successfully as a burlesque dancer, a forester, a busker, and a magic carpet salesman. The fact that he was once one of that forgotten company, the bus conductors, will immediately tell you that he is as old as the hills in which he lives. Nowadays he spends his time writing, telling tall tales in his bio, and pretending to take good photographs. You can have a good laugh at his blog or his photographs, but most of all please go and mock him mercilessly on Twitter or Facebook. Michael Wombat has published over one book. Other authors are available.
“Michael Wombat brought us to near tears by his short stories. He is a natural story teller.” – Diana Jackson, author of The Riduna Series.
Victoria Pearson lives behind a keyboard somewhere in rural Bedfordshire, with her husband, her four children, and her dog. She writes very strange stories.

I don't like to give too much away to the next reader in describing what a book is about. Suffice to say, this one is a science fiction story along the lines of quantum leap, yet sinister and disturbed. People can slip through time to other places, or times to be more precise, only it's a game. And there's a creepy character setting the rules of the game.
It was quite a thrill, this story. And I think there were a few things the writer did really well to help make this a great read. The layout, it's full of short concise stories with excellent visuals and narrative to keep you going. The writing itself is very compact, and the speech in the story really does help to push the story telling along without holding it back, yet doesn't give anything away. You see there is a mystery unravelling, and as you get deeper into it, you find yourself flipping the pages faster. Sometimes so fast in a rush to get to the ending, I had to go back and actually read it.
Let this be a series!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2019Format: PaperbackOver all, I enjoyed the stories in Slipping Through. The author mentions that the first two stories were originally flash fic, and they seem to still retain the quick, snippet feel of flash. I feel like there is a lot more meat to both stories that could make them longer pieces, should the author decide to go that direction. I'm especially curious about the technology that allows the travelers to "slip through." Where did it come from? How do the people use it? What are the rules? We get a little bit of that, but there could be so much more.
For the longer novella, we get a more rounded world and understanding of how the slipping works. I was a little confused by one aspect, however. It seemed like the slipping was happening between dimensions, but the main character regularly referred to it as different times rather than realities, which implies that some of the stuff that happened, will happen in the future of the main character's world. I'm not sure that's what the author was going for though. If so, there would be more of an emphasis in stopping the bad guy rather than just playing the game. I felt the ending was a little lacking too. There was a lot of build up around what was going on, but when it came down to the last couple of chapters, it went really quickly and felt a little too easy. One of the big questions of the story also didn't get answered. That might be okay if there's a follow up story in the works, but if this was meant as a standalone, it's missing that answer.
Over all, I enjoyed the stories and they were a very quick read. I would be interested to see if there's more to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2019Format: PaperbackI like science fiction but this set of stories doesn't explain anything and doesn't contain any scientific ideas so I found it more akin to the horror and fantasy writing made popular by Ray Bradbury and Stephen King. They have both written about slipping through to other worlds eerily similar to our own and even visiting different times. And they've both presented them complete with evil characters who toy with the desires and lives of ordinary mortals for hidden motives.
I enjoyed the stories but felt them to be works in progress with a lot of potential.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2019Format: KindleI love these short stories of time travel and alternative universes. Each story is absolutely fantastic and this is unusual to find all of the stories so wonderful. I cannot even pick a favorite as they all were fantastic.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book. The 3 stories went together nicely. I just struggled a little with the 3rd book. I liked the story and some of the characters. By the end I did enjoy book 3. It was different. 4*.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2018Format: KindleThis new collection of short stories from author Miranda Kate is uniquely intriguing. Mrs. Kate's stories always ensnare me with their cleverness and out of the box thinking. The tone she sets is devastatingly hopeful, leaving me whiplashed and emotionally spent at the end of her tales. This is a quick, heart pounding, intriguing read that is sure to ensnare you too.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2019Format: KindleHaving a common theme of travelling through time, this book contains 2 short stories and a novella.
InterDimensioning: Travelling via portals Elise and Logan arrive in a strange place where there was no human contact and the trees were lilac.
V.W.G: Vladimir thinks he has cracked the secret to another dimension, but are there forces against him.
The Game: David has been captured to play the Jester’s warped game travelling through different dimensions.
As soon as I started InterDimensioning, I already had questions. Why did they travel through the portal, where they escaping from someone? I felt that I had jumped into this story halfway through. The world they arrived was very unusual to what they had seen before and whilst Logan was the tech expert, Elise was the one that used her instinct to try and survive this strange world. This story is very descriptive and you can close your eyes and imagine the colourful world.
V.W.G From the start of this story, you are following Vladimir as he is racing for his life. As the story continues more is explained about the importance of his mission. This was a fun read with a matrix feel to it.
The Game was my favourite story, following David as he plays cat and mouse with the Jester. Whilst we don’t know why the Jester plays this game, we know that in the time where David comes from a lot of the residents go missing. Involved in the game were two mystery ladies Isabella and Annie. However, we don’t know whose side they are on. The dystopian worlds that David slips into are dangerous and you wonder if the Jester’s game is to kill or maim them. I would love to see this turned into a longer story and to have some background about the Jester and the game.
This is the 1st read from this author and looking at their books, I am interested in reading some other works.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI don't often read short stories, or novellas for that matter, but enjoyed this collection from a 'scribble(?)' of different writers very much. There were several you just wished would carry on but sadly my imagination will have to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars A collection of time travel tales that will grip you.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis collection of short stories begins with Interdimensioning and it’s a surreal story that pulls you into new worlds and tugs at your emotions. V.W.G. the second story threw me into the world of computers and altered reality, and kept me turning pages, but it was the last and longest story which completely pulled me into the world of slipping through.
The Game is written in present tense, unlike the other stories, and hooked me immediately. I was captivated and drawn right into David’s battle with his worthy and chilling antagonist, the Jester. I was right with David, urging him on, and you will be too.
I would have liked more of each story, perhaps more backstory to Interdimensioning, and I am very keen to read more of The Game.
If you like stories that make you think and are on the surreal side then these short stories are for you. Something to make you wonder about the dimensions surrounding you…

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable to read
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed reading through the stories in Slipping Through, much like Elise I'm probably never going to look at trees the same again... would very much like to read a follow on from InterDimensioning. The only reason for 4 stars is because I wanted the stories to be a bit longer.
