My Lips Are Sealed (Sealed With a Kiss Book 2) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 42 ratings

At sixteen years old, I lost my first love, and it shook me to my core.

My parents thought taking me out of town for the summer would help me to move on, but I returned home the same way I left: a broken girl who was the last person to see her boyfriend alive.

The night before school started back up, I went to an open mic night and poured my heart and soul into a song I wrote for the boy who never made it home.

That night, I met Elijah, and we had an instant connection that I couldn’t ignore. For the first time in months, I felt alive again.

But the next day, Elijah walked into my drama class…as Mr. Larson, our new teacher.

How was I supposed to go back to the way things were when my whole life had been turned upside-down? And how was I supposed to stop myself from falling for the man who had brought me back to life?

See author's website for a list of TWs and content advisories.

Note:
My Lips Are Sealed is the first book in the Sealed With a Kiss series and the first book of Zoe’s trilogy, which must be read in order.

Carmen Richter is an old soul. Her words are like theater, masterfully spun to bring all the feels, interspersed with music that makes your heart soar. She needs her coffee to make the words flow, and some of her best writing is done in a caffeine-induced haze at one in the morning with a soundtrack that ranges from jazz standards to rock to show tunes and everything in between. When she's not writing, she loves going to live concerts and especially live theater, or just staying in and binging Criminal Minds or Law and Order: SVU for the zillionth time.

Carmen lives in Kansas City with her boyfriend, Brett, and their two fur babies, a bunny named Marty and a cat named Mal. In addition to writing, she also has two branches of a business that aims to provide quality services to independent authors at a reasonable price. CPR Designs deals with, well, design: logos and branding, social media graphics, covers, and teasers.

Carmen loves interacting with her fans and will happily respond to all messages personally until she gets uber famous and gets a ton of them. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

Zoe and River are sisters and are super close. Zoe and her family return home to the town that holds many painful memories after her boyfriend went missing. Brody was a popular jock. One night after an argument between Brody and Zoe he left sooner then expected and never returned home. Zoe has been struggling with his disappearance. One night she goes to the Grind [a Coffee House]. Zoe wrote a song and wants to perform it for a local audience to see how it goes. That is where she meets Elijah and they figured out they both have the same interests. Zoe was going to call Elijah the next day to tell him how old she was [which is 16yrs. old] and then he walks into the Drama class at the High School as he is the new Drama Teacher and they both were shocked. They both decided to have a relationship but, they were very careful not to get caught. Then one day Zoe was told that they found Brody's body and she was a mess. Elijah was there to help her. One day Zoe and her friends found out that one of their friends Paisley had brain cancer which was the reason for some of the stuff Paisley did. Zoe's mom had a hunch about Zoe and Elijah and Zoe admitted everything to her mom and her mom invites Elijah to the house for supper so that she and Zoe's dad could meet Elijah as Zoe's boyfriend instead of her teacher. Zoe goes to pick up Elijah and takes him back to her house. In the mean time Zoe's mom talks to Zoe's dad. They thought everything was fine until the mom tells the dad to put his gun away and mom takes the gun to hide it. Then things got really super bad. I can't say anymore for fear of giving away and spoilers. You really need to read this book!! I truly loved this book!!

Zoe has has so much heartbreak for such a young person, but will one chance meeting be the key to unlock the heartbreak and rekindle the life she had before. Can this happen or will it cause her more heartbreak?

Zoe is a teenager with a shocking past, with her boyfriend dying she is plunged into a depression her parents try and help her through the heartache by taking her away for the summer but nothing seems to shake the darkness from her world.

Upon returning back to her home town she decides before she goes back to school the next day to sing in an open mic night and sing a song she wrote about her experiences of the past months, once she has sung she meets Elijah and boy who seems to evoke feelings she thought she could never feel again and starts to think she can live on. The next day she arrives to school and realises the new teacher is her Elijah and what will happen to their relationship and will it be able to continue with is position.

I did like elements of the story, I found that the character of Zoe although she had been through so much made me a little mad at times, maybe it was the age of the character but found it difficult to relate to some of her emotions within the story. That being said the story was well written and developed and had a lot to think about with the contents. I can not believe the initial meeting of the two of them that Elijah and Zoe did not feel the age difference within the language that they spoke to each other or actions.

This is a great story and I would like to read more stories within this series and more books by Carmen.

Parts of the book I truly loved but the focus of the main character left me feeling left out in the cold. Warning spoiler: First, her boyfriend disappeared then is pronounced dead. The main character and her new love interest both discover evidence of the truth and neither pass this on to the authorities. Second, her parents are rarely mentioned and life has seemed to begin when her and her family returned from a extremely expensive vacation for a extended length of time. No mention of parents, careers or history. Then the plot twists on a dime with her dad's bizarre behavior. Then and only then is one small mention of a past addiction problem. This book has the potential to become much more, but sadly after completing the first installment I could not bring myself to move on to the nect.

I don’t usually review books after reading them despite it I do or don’t like them but I can’t not review this one. This book could have been half as long if they didn’t need to continuously repeat the same conversations 20 times after having them. I know they are high school students and they talk to each other a lot but why do I need to reread it for a full chapter afterward?! And the fact that so many people knew about the relationship and how sucky they were at keeping their secret really just ruined the book for me. Will not be reading the next one sadly

Wow, just wow. I love the way issues were handled in this book, it was done with taste, with gentleness, fairness & grace, but with a firmness that spoke of having being through some of these experiences. I'm not sure how often I cried while reading. This is gonna be one of those series you remember long after you've finished it because the life lessons it gives out are realistic. Awesome story, totally worth reading

My Lips Are Sealed is the first book in the Sealed With A Kiss series by Carmen Richter. This is my first read by Ms. Richter, so I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book, but as it was recommended to me I took a chance and snapped up a copy to read.
I’m going to be honest here- I struggled with this story, I really did. I think I had a preconceived idea of what I was getting into and may have had my expectations set too high.
That’s not to say that the story was bad, it was ok- but I really struggled with the ages of the characters. I think I would have enjoyed this more, and related more to the character/s, if Zoe had been of college age, say 18/19/20- instead of her 16 years. But, that’s just me- there are probably heaps of people that wouldn’t be bothered by her age, but I was for some reason.
Zoe has endured so much heartbreak for someone so young, she has struggled to find her way back from her grief. Pouring her heart out into her music, she decides to perform at an open mic night and sing about her loss. It’s there she meets Elijah, who sparks something in her for the first time since her loss. She feels a small spark of her former life start to kindle within her, and for the first time in months she feels a little hope. Something promising blossoms between them- so imagine her surprise at school the next day when Elijah turns out to be her new drama teacher. They should just walk away- but instead decide to keep what they have a secret. What happens when secrets are revealed? Will this only lead to more heartbreak for Zoe? Well, you will just have to read the story for yourself to discover how everything unfolds.
The story is full of teen angst, friendship, love, loss, heartache, chemistry, secrets, and more.

    Thank you, Carmen Richter.

Zoe is a non-identical twin. She is close with her sister but they are different in many ways. Zoe loves the performing arts. Her boyfriend was a popular jock and the towns golden boy. After an argument, he had left her house earlier than expected one night, but never returned home. Zoe has struggled with his disappearance ever since. The start of the school year is approaching and Zoe knows she needs to pick herself back up. She wrote a song and wants to perform for a local audience to try it out. While at a local cafe she meets a guy. He’s new in town and they have similar interests. What she doesn’t know is that he’s her new drama teacher. The pair become close and Zoe needs someone to lean on.

My lips are sealed has a lot to offer. It’s the start of a series. It’s a mystery, Forbidden romance, Zoe has a passion for the performing arts and there is an underlying compassionate story. This book is 500 pages plus so it has a lot going on. Zoe has a good network of friends and all is not what it seems with her missing boyfriend. The story is a little messed up. It offers something different. It’s a lengthy interesting read.

    4 stars out of 5.
