Cheryl Mayo, Australian by birth, moved to the Forest of Dean in 2008 with her husband. Living in a forest meant a dog was a ‘must have’ and border collie Sammy joined the family in early 2009. Initially, Cheryl and Sammy spent many hours learning their way around the trails and paths of the Forest, but once they had a fair grasp on the situation they set out to make the learning process easier for other newcomers and for visitors. Hence, the ever popular Sammy’s Walks was born.

In addition to walking in the woods, Cheryl also writes fiction for both adults and middle grade under the name Cheryl Burman, much of it inspired by the history, traditions and legends of the Forest.
