From Book 1:

FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS, SATURN HID AN ALIEN SECRET.
IN 2065, HUMANITY WILL FIND IT.

Lowell Carpenter is a disgraced Marine assigned to a remote US research station on Saturn's moon Enceladus, where scientists have made an extraordinary discovery in the ocean below.

A special forces team, led by Lowell’s murderous former commanding officer, shows up to investigate. Almost immediately, everything begins to unravel.

Something beneath the surface has been activated.

Soon every space force on Earth — American, Chinese, Russian, and more — is converging on the tiny moon, ready to start a war.

But when a young archeologist with a knack for dead languages makes an amazing discovery of his own, Lowell realizes the stakes are higher than anyone could’ve imagined.

He soon has no choice but to disobey orders and fight soldiers he helped train as he races to stop an unimaginable chain reaction that threatens the entire solar system.

The countdown has begun...

The author pays no attention whatsoever to vacuum vs. deep sea or the changes in pressure or how characters go from deep sea to atmosphere, or why atmosphere exists in the center of ocean worlds, etc. He presents far too many impossible and silly physical situations. There is absolutely no discussion of how ships are traveling from galaxy to galaxy or how Earth to Saturn travel by ship only takes hours or days. There is no consistent set of physics presented to explain any of this.
Characters are well drawn and human interactions are well written. The author should probably write in some other genre where the world he describes isn’t so nonsensical.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Joshua James followed an unusual path to arrive here (i.e. writing in third person about himself in an author biography). He has worked as both an accountant and a graphic artist. Before either of those pursuits, he submitted a string of short stories to Analog, Asimov's, F&SF and Interzone. He even got a couple published. But finding an agent and writing on spec dampened his enthusiasm. Still, his childhood love for Robotech and ST:TNG meant he could never truly ignore his geek side (and also meant he wrote Star Trek/Robotech crossover fan fiction--yes, that's a thing). He has written or co-written more than 50 novels. They all involve spaceships. Joshua lives outside Washington D.C. with his family.
