Scoring Chance (Carolina Comets) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 4,067 ratings

Scoring on the ice? Piece of cake.
Scoring off it? Well, there’s a reason I’m still a virgin.

I’m not entirely clueless with women, though I do tend to put my foot in my mouth around them far too often.

Like I did with Scout, the donut maker I stupidly introduced myself to despite visiting her truck for years.

Maybe my teammates have a reason to call me the dumb one, but I’m determined to prove them all wrong—Scout included.

I want to be her friend. Want her to see the real me.

What I’m not expecting is to like her so much when we start spending time together…or want to kiss her so badly.

I’m the jock, and she’s the bookworm.
On paper, we make no sense together.

But maybe I have a scoring chance with her after all.

SCORING CHANCE is a standalone hockey romantic comedy. There's a virgin hero, a plus-sized donut maker with secret crush, wit, steam, a whole lot of fun, and a happy ending.

I love reading series, it’s great to see a glimpse at past couples and how they are doing. (As someone who doesn’t want an entire book with their happily ever after this always makes me happy!) being reunited with the Carolina Comets was perfect and I loved learning more about rookie Grady Miller and the donut queen Scout Thomas.Miller is pretty much in love with Scout immediately, he visits her donut truck weekly but stupidly introduced himself to Scout at a teammates party not realizing she was the woman from the Donut truck. Apparently since he had only ever seen Scout’s upper half he didn’t recognize her with legs. Scout rightfully is annoyed since she had a crush on him and knew who he was from all of his visits. However Miller is dedicated to apologizing and becoming her friend but then becomes dedicated to dating her. They are adorable together and it was fun to have Scout be the grump and Miller be the sunshiny one of the couple. I am excited for Greer’s book next since I’m 99% sure we know who he is falling for!Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥 Scene: Miller’s kitchen

TH has another hit on her hands with the Carolina Comets series.

Miller and Scout had me from the very beginning (and maybe part of the last book). Miller makes the mistake of thinking he never met Scout (who he has been buying donuts from for YEARS) at a friend's house, so he reintroduces himself. Scout (who has had a crush on Miller for a while) is crushed and well…angry at him.

Suffice it to say, Miller sees Scout now and will stop at nothing to make her like him. Their friendly feelings grow into so much more. These two had me laughing so hard. I mean virgin weiner? I almost died laughing! LOLs for days on that one right there. They also had me fanning my face. I loved the lead up to the big moment. All the little touches and tension made it all so much better.

I found it quite refreshing that the guy was the virgin. Most of the hockey guys tend to be raging man-hoes. But Miller? He’s just… Miller **Swoon** Dorky, flirty, kind, completely lovable and FINE.

Of course there’s always trouble in paradise, but Miller waits ahead as Scout slowly catches up. Men who fall first? Yes please!!

This is a standalone, but I swear it geso so much better when read with the others. Especially with some donuts and wine (cause coffee won’t cut it for the steamy parts!). Scoring Chance is funny, steamy and unputdownable (so are all the others).

Now these fine hockey men need to win themselves a cup. Go Comets!

Can’t wait for the next. It’s Greer’s book, so it has to be Stevie right? I mean her and Macie weren’t that impressed, so we need some HOT redemption action. Yeah??

Scout is used to being invisible. But she’s a donut maker, now beloved by the Carolina Comets players. So when Miller, her long-time crush, forgets who she is…it’s a blow. And when Miller tries to make amends, she’s less than amenable. But Miller is persistent, and doesn’t back down until she not only forgives him, but agrees to be his friend.
Which is how Scout finds herself agreeing to be his date for a big Comets event. And Miller, who isn’t nearly as experienced as his teammates and the press seem to believe, can’t believe his luck to have the sweet, smart, and sassy Scout on his arm. He wants more than a pay-you-back date, and risks asking her out for real.
With the two of them and their strong chemistry despite their fumbled start, it isn’t long before they’re more than friends. Only, are they really on the same page about what they’re doing? For a writing-inclined bookworm and a known charmer, communication should come easy. But real life has a habit of being messier than we expect, and both Scout and Miller have issues that rear their heads at times.
The Carolina Comets are SUPER addictive, just the way Teagan’s Texting series is, and Scoring Chance is definitely the kind of book that demands a binge read, even if that means staying up all night to finish just “one” more chapter 😉. Scout and Miller’s story is hella steamy 🌶 🌶 🌶 🥵, and has more than a couple of the typical rom-com bumbles that have readers both laughing and groaning in frustration while they hardcore ship the characters. And while Scout has been hinted at being a heroine since the beginning of the series, it’s clear that she wouldn’t have done for anyone but Miller, who’s keen to appreciate everything about her and always willing to lend a hand or otherwise be supportive. Those reading in order will be glad to hear that the next installment, Glove Save, features Scout’s equally sassy sister Stevie!
And while Teagan’s fans—especially of her Texting series, which has some cameo crossovers in the Comets—are sure to appreciate this series, it’s also perfect for sports/hockey romance readers who love Helena Hunting’s Pucked/All In series, Natasha Madison’s hockey univers, and Elise Faber’s Gold Hockey/Breakers/Rush Hockey serieses! There’s definitely that same sense of family in the characters across all the series, including the Comets, and the same interconnected stand-alone model that allows the series to be read in any order!

Basically the plot of this story is all about getting to know the two main characters and the development of their relationship. Outside of that not a whole lot happens, and because of that it was a little slow for me. I had a hard time staying engaged towards the end.
I really liked Miller. He was sweet and silly and had a huge heart. I also liked how the author flip flopped the norm and made the hero, Miller, the inexperienced, slightly insecure virgin. His character was very endearing.
For the most part I also liked the heroine, Scout. She was kind and independent and driven.
I love this series so I enjoyed all of the characters from the previous books showing up in this one. I'm also excited about the hints dropped about who Greer is going to end up with in the next book, which I will definitely be reading.
Where I struggled was with the words the author used to describe Scout.
I'm all for body positivity, and think curvy bodies can absolutely be sexy, BUT I just couldnt get on board with the author's way of portraying the h being plus size to the reader. At one point towards the beginning of the book, while the h is shopping for a dress, she describes herself as having big hips, an even bigger a$$ and multiple stomach rolls. A few more chapters in when the H and the h start to get intimate the author goes into in depth detail about the h's rolls, stretch marks and cellulite. That doesnt say extra curvy yet sexy to me and it was distracting. It was like throwing a bucket of ice water on the spicy scenes of the story. I personally enjoy the spicy scenes in romance novels so I was disappointed. I really struggled with getting a good mental visual for Scout. I wish the author would have chose words like curvaceous, thick, soft, full figured. Maybe then I would have visualized someone more like Ashley Graham and less like a patient on my 600lb Life. I appreciate what the author was attempting to do but it missed the mark for me and why I gave it 3 stars.

So I have been reading this series by Teagan Hunter and have loved each one… but this one by far takes the cake. Scout and Grady are my absolute favourites! Both are full of sass and their witty banter pulls the reader into their relationship so well!

Scout is this on the outside timid, self-reliant business owner who doesn’t have the best self-esteem… she struggles with loving herself and who she is but is able to overcome that through the help and eyes of Grady.

While Grady Miller is the famous hockey player with the Carolina Comets… his defence mechanism is sarcasm and deflection through comments and being an excessive flirt. Even though he’s absolutely hopeless when it comes to dating and women in general.

Both of the characters complement each other so well, and push the storyline! An absolute must read and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one in their series! 💕

Since the very first book. I fell in love with this universe and these stories just keep getting better! Miller, that over the top idiot, stole my heart. Their story is filled with growth and trust and Scout was just what this excited 24 yo needed to settle down! Teagan Hunter gets rom-com. Her humour is delicious. Add to that the fact that it’s obvious she loves the game… it makes for the perfect mix for hockey rom coms!

Excuse me while I swoon and smile again over the perfection that is Grady Miller. We spent four books getting to know this guy and he’s always been the loudest, wildest and most inappropriate character in the series. And yet, when his own book comes around, you really learn just how incredibly special he is. It’s impossible to hate or even dislike Miller, because he’s a cinnamon roll puppy and he’s so sweet.

    In Scoring Chance, you’ll find:
    ✨ hockey players!
✨ a donut making, romance writing, mid-size sassy heroine
✨ a mouthy, charming, hockey playing virgin hero
    ✨ amazing friendships
✨ banter, flirting, chemistry and some tension
    ✨ low drama, high heat
    ✨ slow burns for days!

Miller and Scout brought me so much joy. I loved watching these two become friends most of all, but their romance and the slow build of their relationship was the kind of stuff that I love in all my love stories. If you read Sin Bin , then you already know that Miller makes a mess of his ‘first official’ meeting with Scout after having spent months eating at her donut truck. But the way he grovels to show her that she is all he sees and that he wants them to be friends was so much fun. Miller’s got this charming cockiness to him that I don’t think would work for most characters, but he’s all golden retriever energy in a hot hockey player body and much like Scout, I was ready to forgive him for his transgressions a long time ago.

The way they make each other feel is something so special. Miller’s life has revolved around hockey all of his life and he’s never experienced the simple things in high school and otherwise. He’s not ashamed of being a virgin and he doesn’t know what he’s missing out on in life till Scout plants herself in his circle. The time they spend together, the way they bond and connect. The little things that Scout does for Miller and all the big things he does for her. It was all so perfect. Where Miller has lived a sheltered life, Scout’s living half her life. After the death of her father and the end of a relationship, Scout’s dedicated her whole life to her donut truck. But the minute Miller walks in, it’s like she starts seeing everything else the world has to offer. And together, they navigate all the things they missed while falling hopelessly in love with each other.

I loved how Miller saw Scout, how he sees her insecurities and the things she considers flaws as the most beautiful parts of her. I loved that he reminded her of those things constantly too. And Scout did the same for Miller, showing him that he’s so much more than just a hockey player and a virgin, that he has so much more to offer. I predicted the conflict and I definitely didn’t like it, but I think it was necessary to really shake these two up. I think the only thing that irked me was the way Greer handled Miller’s virginity truth bomb, I like Greer, but seeing the way he responded to this made me scowl at him a whole lot. So he’s going to have to redeem himself a whole lot!
