Scoring the Birdie (Love of the Game) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 38 ratings

Men suck.

It’s a proven fact. And I need a break. Especially from cocky, athletic men who think the world is their playground. This next month, I’m on a forced vacation. It should give me what I need to regain my focus and not get fired. If not, then it’s time to transition into a new career and start fresh.

My break is going well. Until a Godzilla-sized spider appeared, destroying my tranquility in the sun. Now I’m in the arms of something much more dangerous. Shay Kelly.

He represents everything I’m not looking for. A pro golfer with a playboy reputation. As a teen, I used to have fantasies about him. But now, as a woman, I know men like him only offer one thing. Heartbreak.

Why me? Why now? He’s a distraction I don’t want, but one I just might need.

Contemporary romance author C. R. Riley is celebrated for creating worlds and characters that don’t always follow the rules, including those she futilely tries to set herself. But the best characters always find a way around them, often surprising her with their willingness to make each and every journey unique, if not emotionally satisfying.

Her Kohl Family series has been called the perfect epitome of contemporary romance with a twist of the unexpected. The characters tackle tough topics while making you fall in love with them, and despising those baddies who deserve it. Each story is a unique standalone. That cares over in her Modern-Day Royals series, which features characters who are unlike any royal put to the page before. And of course, combining her love of football and baseball she adds a steamy sports romance, Love of the Game which follows a family of athletes on their separate journeys to find true love.

You can find all her romantic and out-of-the-ordinary series on Amazon and free in Kindle Unlimited. Never miss a new project update or book release by signing up for her newsletter. You can also find her on Facebook, Instagram, crriley.com, and TikTok.

Golf and Love.... Amazing Combo!

Golf and Love.... Amazing Combo!
Scoring The Birdie is the 3rd book in the Love of the Game series, This one is about Ava, the only girl out of the five siblings. Ava is on a forced leave from her work, due to not playing by her bosses rules. She decides to take a vacation in Hawaii to get away from it all and with the help of a good friend she gets to vacation at a clients house since he will not be there. However unknown to her, Shay is on his way back to his Hawaiian house since the tour is over and he doesn't want to go back to his childhood home after his dad has passed away. What neither of them expect to find, is each other. Or love. Or a mutual love for the game of Golf. This story was entertaining and fun. Shay and Ava were great together and apart. The banter, the love, the protective nature of Shay, Avas attitude, were all fantastic and I really enjoyed reading their story and seeing how both of them progressed thru out the book.

But I love a good female main character, one that has been in her brother's shadows. And then to bring in a reformed "player"? Great read! Just enough fun times and the metaphors are fun.

This book was so fun! Ava and Shay are delightful. It's an easy read, with little angst. Just a couple meeting and getting to know each other. In the process, they find themselves, especially Ava. It was fun to see her find who she wanted to be. Shay cheered her along every step of the way. If you want a quick, fluffy, fun read, get this book. You'll have a relaxing, enjoyable time!

Ava has just landed in Hawaii for a forced vacation. She has been put on probation again for refusing to follow orders.

Ava grew up in sports. Her father was a pro football player and her four brothers are all famous in their professional sports careers, but being a woman those jobs were denied her so she did the next best thing. She became a sports publicist. If she couldn't play she could help players clean up their act and realize that their bad boy actions reflect badly on their careers.

She was three years into her four-year non-compete contract and she should have killed her younger self for signing with Crenshaw & Hibbard. Lyle Crenshaw has made her life an absolute nightmare by using his power to try to intimidate her into using sexual favors as a service for their clients. After her first encounter with him and his suggestion and his advances to her, she was given a week's probation.

When she returned she recorded all meetings stating it was to make sure she didn't miss any details and make her a better employee. They knew what the recordings were really for. Then they found out she was suggesting the other females do the same and here she is...required to use all her accumulated vacation time while being investigated.

She was determined to use this time in Hawaii to relieve her stress and figure out a way to take them down without ruining her career. One of her brother's agents Jasmine had suggested this guesthouse on the private side of the island. She was in paradise.

Shay was a professional golfer at the top of the leader boards and a fan favorite. It was the end of the golf season and he decided to head to his home in Hawaii. He would usually head to Atlanta, but his father died earlier this year and he didn't think he could handle being alone in the house he grew up in.

He was a teenager when he and his friends snuck onto a golf course and started fooling around. He had stolen a bag of clubs and was having the time of his life. One of the professional golfers playing in a group behind the kids noticed Shay outshooting everyone he was invited to play. When he pulled Shay aside later, he found out that not only was he one of the top players on tour, but the clubs he stole belonged to him. But he made Shay a deal to show up and learn the game and the clubs were his.

While he was learning the game he gave golf lessons which is how he met his wife. An ex-wife who lied and said she was pregnant to get away from her controlling father. Took him five years to be financially secure enough to be rid of her and then he became a player on and off the field. Until Jasmine got a hold of him. Now his focus is on his game and off women.

Until he goes to check on Jasmine who requested his guesthouse for a month. What he finds instead is a gorgeous woman in a skimpy bikini screaming and practically jumping into his arms away from a Cane Spider on the patio.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and totally relatable. Ava and Shay's story is my favorite in this series. This book is romantic and sexy. Ava is trying to overcome not only issues in her chosen profession but is also holding insecurities since college from unwanted advances from her coach.

Shay is a reformed playboy determined to show Ava that he's worth the chance. This book is action-packed from beginning to end. Once you pick it up you won't be able to put the book down. Shay and his antics will keep you laughing, but Ava gives as good as she gets. It is full of sexual chemistry and smoking hot. If you haven't read CR Riley you definitely need to add this author to your one-click list.

Let me just start by saying that C.R. Riley is one of my all time favorite authors, I genuinely do not think there has ever been a book I have read by her that I have not absolutely loved . That being said , I was so excited to have had the opportunity to read and review Scoring the Birdie . Ava and Shay are two of the most wonderful characters you will ever meet . She’s a publicist for a firm that works with professional athletes and he’s a pro golfer . Do to some unfortunate circumstances of which I’m not going to mention Ava’ is put on leave by her boss and ends up staying at a cottage In Hawaii , unbeknownst to her it’s ends up being Shays place . So imagine her surprise when Shay shows up there as well . From the moment they meet in the attraction between then is instant, sparks fly and over time feelings start to develop . This was such a fantastic story , it’s everything a perfect romance should be , so full of emotion, intrigue, steam , angst , humor , heartbreak, and much much more

Scoring the Birdie is amazing sports romance. When I started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down. Ava and Shay story will make you want to learn golf. Ava is on a force vacation for not following the rules. She runs into Shay who is on break and has decided to come home this time since the loss of his father. But was shocked to found Ava stay in his cottage instead of their friend. Their chemistry is remarkable from the start. And the way Shay is with Ava is incredible, he wants to fix her problems, but she wants to fix it herself. I love the road Ava and Shay carry us down. Even though they can’t control everything but, in the end, their HEA is all that matters.

Scoring the Birdie has incredible characters. C. R. Riley does remarkable job with storyline. Ava and Shay has instant connection, their scenes are steamy, passion, heartbreaking and love. This is one of the best sport books I read in a while. Definitely 5 stars just wished I could give it more.

C.R. Did it again with another incredible story. Each book that she writes gets better and better. Scoring the Birdie had the best “first” scene that I have ever read! It was absolute perfection with the perfect amount of detail and incredible emotion crafted into it.

I adored Shay and Ava’s growth as individuals and a couple and that there wasn’t any big drama in their story. Just a couple working their way to a beautiful HEA.

    Job well done!!

I loved this story from start to finish. The things Ava has to contend with are horrible and unfortunately happens all too often, so it's not difficult to immediately feel empathy for her. Caught in a difficult situation she tries to do her best but Shay doesn't want to watch her try so hard, he wants to help but her fiesty independence whilst a trn on, is also a barrier and he makes it his mission to make them disappear before making her see life is for living.
