The Seaside Strategy: Hilton Head Island, Book 3 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.5 out of 5 stars 239 ratings

Lauren Keller understands strategies. She adores them and never enters a marketing meeting without Strategy A, B, and C tucked away in the back of her mind. She's one of the top executives at her firm...until it all comes crashing down with the news that her boss has been stealing money from their clients for almost a decade.

After narrowly escaping indictments herself, Lauren finds herself, at age 43, standing in the parking lot of her office building, a box with a stapler, a sad plant, and a couple of photos as her only companions.

She needs a new strategy, and she decides she can map everything out from the beaches of Hilton Head.

It's not an exit strategy.

It's a seaside strategy.

Relax more. Worry less. Find out what she really wants in her life.

While trying to do that, all with the ocean breeze and her friends for support, Lauren meets Blake Williams. The man is movie-star gorgeous, witty, and looking for someone to help him run his successful financial planning business on the island.

But Lauren doesn't want to work for him, especially not in strategic investments. She's had enough of the high-profile, corporate life. Can she strategically insert herself into Blake's life without compromising her seaside strategy and finally get what she really wants...love and a lasting relationship?

This author includes a lot of characters and storylines. If that's not your jam, try another author. I don't mind it. Lauren is a successful career woman who finds herself at loose ends. Blake is a business owner and father. I liked the slow build to their relationship. Both learn, grow and compromise. I will read more in this series and by this author.

Lauren is a planner, never been married, big shot at a corporate entity and not sure where she fits anymore. Half of her friends are in Hilton Head and the other half back in Texas, but she's drawn to a certain handsome man in Hilton Head so she decides to bite the bullet, buy a house and relocate her life. During this time, her company gets closed down by the FBI for embezzlement and fraud. Whatever is a girl to do?
Blake is single, having divorced his ex years ago, although they get along great. They have a thirteen year old son who spends time with both. Blake is taken with Lauren and she with him, so when she decides to make the move, he plays a prominent role in that decision.
The women's Supper Club is a bit topsy turvy as well, meeting in Texas sometimes and in Hilton Head at others. The women are very close and it seems like they gravitate toward each other as natural as family. They are all very supportive of Lauren's decision, even when she sells her Texas house and makes the move permanent.
In the meantime, she's developing a relationship with Blake's son and the three are starting to feel like the family Lauren has never had.
Once again our author delves into relationships and friendships among women in a very special way. I loved how this book ended, but you have to read it to find out more. The perfect summer beach read.

This is not a book I would recommend someone read as a stand-alone. I really believe you have to start from book 1 and work your way through the series.

Although the main group consists of the women in the Supper Club, there are so many people attached at the periphery of this group, it can be hard to keep up.

I did like that Blake and Lauren were a more mature couple and she didn't seem to have any hang ups about being a few years older than him. I liked that Lauren and Tommy got along. I liked that Blake loved his son and his focus was on parenting him. I thought the flirting between Blake and Lauren was cute.

There were a number of things that had me confused. I either needed more detail or wondered why they were mentioned in the first place. Also, why was the drama of Lauren losing her job necessary? I thought the book was going to go in a different direction just based on the way she lost her job.

Why couldn't she have purchased Harrison's house since he was putting it on the market? I felt like Lauren's financial situation waffled from her having more than enough money to her having just enough money and then it would change back again.

Where did Tommy disappear to? It was never stated. Just that Tommy showed up. First we had the situation with the first girl, then Kathy. Why did Kathy lie? Why did Blake go through the trouble of meeting her and not address the lie?

What happened with Cason? What was said that caused him to behave like he did? Why were the police not called? Why was Jacinda not more concerned about the environment in which she left her only child? I didn't understand that situation at all!

Then there was the Lauren phone call with Jess. What was the point? To put emphasis on what Lauren already knew? Or was she searching for something she hoped would change? I really didn't hear her say anything that would have moved that relationship forward in a positive way. Lauren took the first step, but I got the impression she was waiting for Jess to embrace her with open arms. He didn't, and she was disappointed. The lack of communication was big and glaring.

Lauren KNEW she had issues. I wondered why she never sought therapy for them. She was not struggling financially. Had no children. Had never been married. The way she reacted to Blake with the situation he was handling was completely out of pocket. I understood the initial confusion and frustration, but when he was attempting to explain, for her to ignore things with the "I was busy" excuse, was just wrong. She could have taken 5 minutes to return a call.

The last thing I am going to mention was the 2, maybe 3 times a member of the Supper Club said that another member was not their best friend, or a close friend, or something like that, but the Supper Club women were supposed to be besties?

The book moved at a slower pace. That wasn't a bad thing. There were a number of issues unfolding for a number of people. I had a problem not only with being confused about some things, but also, with the amount of unanswered questions I had.

I cannot remember reading a book that held my interest as tight as this one did. A plot full of twists and turns so firmly keeping my attention is rare, but this one did just that.
