    This was, however, another 3.5 stars rounded to 4 book for me mainly because a lot of the plot and character background is underdeveloped. It’s like a good soup base that is missing some spices.

    And STILL we don’t know who the villain is.

    The threat to the Remington Family continues and the death of their father may have been the first victim. The books in this series could be read as standalones but reading them in order of publication would be my suggestion - each book has a wonderful couple and a mystery in the plot.

    Lady Juliana/Jules, sister to the duke, Giles, has recently been rescued from a kidnapping scheme and now he has hired someone to watch and protect Jules. She is not allowed to leave the house without a guard - which puts a real cramp in Jules' independent ways - which includes a group that her brother does not approve of her being a member. She must find a way to convince her new protector, Mr. Archibald, to allow her to attend meetings and go places without telling her brother.

    The duke hired Matthew Archibald and his team to investigate his father's death/murder and after Julie's kidnapping and the duke being set up, he now wants Matthew to protect her full time to keep her safe. Matthew is an honorable, handsome man who grew up in a middle-class family and he has worked very hard to build his business throughout the years.

    When it becomes obvious Jules isn't going to outsmart or sway her brother about her constant protector, she suggests they work together, and Matthew soon realizes she isn't a spoiled society lady. She convinces Matthew to let her attend her group meetings with him accompanying her, they also team together on solving the mystery of her father's death and why someone is out to hurt the rest of the family. that She can't give up her work to save animals and protect them. Matthew was sure she was just a spoiled lady of the ton, nothing could further from the truth. Jules and Matthew try to solve the mystery of why someone is out to harm the family. Secrets regarding her father are discovered among other problems that appear. The more time Matthew and Jules spend together, the harder the feelings are to deny - despite them both knowing the difference in social classes are against them, but they can no longer resist the attraction.

    Each of the books in the series ends with a HEA and Matthew and Jules were so lovable and deserved the love they felt. However, the mystery of who or why the Remington's are being threatened carries on from book to book - we learn some new secrets and answers but not solved. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

    Matthew and Juliana’s love story stole my heart! Lady Juliana was abducted and rescued. Now she is trying to return to normal by immersing herself in her passion for saving animals. Matthew Archibald is trying to solve the mystery of who is attacking Juliana’s family. Juliana’s brother, the Duke, assigns Matthew to guard Juliana. What starts as an unwanted chore ends in passion.

    Matthew knows his place in Juliana’s world; he is slightly above a servant. Matthew has worked hard to build his detective business. I loved Matthew’s protective streak and his acceptance of Juliana being a vegetarian and her penchant for strays. Juliana is exhausted from living in the gilded cage her mother and brother have forced her to live in. I loved Juliana’s soft spot for animals. Juliana knows her heart and mind, and I enjoyed reading about the lengths she was willing to go to get Matthew to accept her love.

    Matthew and Juliana’s connection was electric. Even through all their obstacles, it was obvious they belonged together. Matthew’s protectiveness toward Juliana was so sweet. Juliana’s fierce determination to keep Matthew was heart-warming. Together the two were fiery, sensual, and oh-so-romantic!

    The Secret Of The Dashing Detective is the second book in the Remingtons Of The Regency. I advise reading these books in order as a connecting mystery thread through each book. Matthew and Juliana’s journey to their happily-ever-after was a joy to read. The added element of the mystery kept me turning the page. The plot moved well, and every time Matthew and Juliana were on the page together, my heart melted! The Mystery Of The Debonair Duke was excellent. The Secret Of The Dashing Detective holds a special place in my heart. Ellie St. Clair has outdone herself with this second installment. This series is impressive and a must-read. Once I start reading them, I can’t put them down! I cannot wait for Dr. Lewis and Lady Maria’s story! I voluntarily read and reviewed a gifted copy of this book through the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
