Every so often, a story emerges that transcends the ordinary, a tale so impeccably crafted that it resonates deeply within the reader’s soul. Seekers in the Void is one such masterpiece.

Glynn Stewart’s writing is not merely competent; it is an artful symphony of thought, deeply immersive and meticulously crafted. There is no room for laziness in his prose.

Every word feels deliberate, every passage vital, transporting you into a future that feels not just possible, but inevitable.

Unlike so many sci-fi writers who clumsily project today’s vernacular onto distant futures, Stewart creates a world that feels lived in, where language and concepts evolve naturally in response to the passage of time.

But perhaps the most profound element of this book lies in its unwavering respect for intelligence and sentience in all its forms. Stewart honors both the organic and the synthetic, recognizing that intelligence, (whether born of flesh or circuitry) is a miraculous force that transcends the boundaries of our understanding.

It is a celebration of the potential for symbiosis between the two, a meditation on humanity's future path, and a reminder that the essence of life and consciousness may be found in the most unexpected of places.

In Seekers in the Void, Stewart doesn’t just write a story; he challenges us to consider what it means to truly see and value intelligence, regardless of its origin.

This is a book that leaves an indelible mark, one that invites us to question the very nature of our existence and the future we are yet to create.

    Can't wait for the next.

Lately, Glynn's books are like space opera battless, 99% boredom and 1% pure horror. The plot starts slow, it's full of minutiae, small dialogue and irrelevant details that help build background and the characters, but you get so far in the book and nothing real happens. Then, a burst of action, 30 or so pages of suspense and quick action, and that's it.

I admit, having read all he published on Amazon, and I will keep reading, Glynn is one of the better Sci Fi authors out there. However, I prefer his earlier series', books with a plot lines that kept you interested from the start, with meaningful interactions and events, happening throughout the book. This book, as well as the other, newer books feel like Harlen Koban, a standard plot frame, filled with some new ideas and content but the outcome feels very similar with only slight variations.

This book was good, just not great.
It was well written but I just could not get into the story.
I was an interesting take on a single company monopolizing space travel and going to whatever extremes to ensure their monopoly.

Really pretty unlike Stewart's other series', here he explores a reasonably stable developed human diaspora based on a Corporation hoarding the secret of FTL travel.
The tech centers on biomechanical robots and associated hardware that are both (sort-of) autonomous, and handled to some extent by humans with significant bionic mods. The plot line deals with an old Company freighter, its crew, both human and biotechnology, and a rather untypical adventure.
In the process, characters play a real role, including AI intelligence. Hard to say more without being a bit of a spoiler.
A really powerful yarn, with pretty complex character types, a developing plot, several dramatic developments. Stewart suggests this might not be a singleton, and although there is no cliff hanger, there is a lot more clearly waiting in the shadows of the author's mind.
    Does not disappoint-- Highly recommended

This was a really great read. The world is interesting-- faster than light space travel among the 77 planets settled by humans is owned by a corporation that tightly controls access to any research on the FTL drive. The characters are individual, developed, and interesting, but what makes this book great is the robot who becomes sapient. The description of the wonders and difficulties of that process is so interesting. And the emotional involvement you develop with the more intelligent robots as you read is very real. Stewart's books are all good. But maybe this is the best yet.

The story addresses a couple of themes not previously addressed in Mr. Stewart's novels and does a very even-handed job in covering them. How would a society with a single corporation having nearing sole control over interstellar travel emerge and develop? How would emergent self-aware be viewed by such a corporation and, by extension, the society as a whole.

Of course, there is also plenty action and combat as we have come to expect and a storyline that leave plenty of questions open for further development.

If you have been think of giving Mr Stewart a try, this is a great novel to jump in and see how you like his prose and pacing. There are really no links or carry over from his other novels and this is a quick fast-paced read that I believe might appear to those looking for something a bit more in depth and considering.

Just finished reading this book and loved it and I hope there is more to come. There is so much more, so many question to explore. I love the main character Cirilo, Six was such a fascinating character addition to the story. Also the setting and space battle, loved it. Interesting that is from the viewpoint of a corporation. Flips a lot of SF stories.

    When is the next one?

I enjoyed this one. It's a good read for sure. the M/C is likable and SIX is the best character in the book. It's kind of typical first contact the fact that it's a corporation not a government that is running the show gives it a twist.
Anything Glynn writes is good and I hope he expands this into a series.

This was a fantastic read and the characters were stellar. I do wish/hope this is a book one. Going to mighty sad if it isn’t as I’d love to hear what happens next and especially what happens with all of our characters, even the emerging ones.

Although the concept of a new captain with baggage joining his ship and sailing into adventure is not new but this story entertained me greatly nevertheless. A company with a monopoly in FTL, a captain with a hidden violent history, a grizzled sidekick and a murderbot like security Biomech unit to name just a few points. For Glynn Stewart fans highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good start to what will hopefully be a new series

This is the first book in what I hope will continue as a series. The author has created a new universe and does a good job in building it out in the first half of the book. I also found the main characters interesting and I am looking forward to seeing more of how they are built out, especially the one I wasn’t expecting at the beginning of the book. There is enough action, especially in the latter part of the book to satisfy me, knowing that the universe and character build out had to happen. While the ending is not a ‘cliff hanger’, it does leave the book open to further stories in this universe. Hopefully that will happen. I enjoyed the book and recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Standalone space opera op zijn best
Reviewed in the Netherlands on May 31, 2025
