THEY KILLED THE WRONG GIRL. RACHEL HATCH WILL MAKE THEM PAY.

WALL STREET JOURNAL bestselling author L.T. RYAN has teamed up with police detective Brian Shea for this debut novel in the gripping Rachel Hatch mystery thriller series.

Ex-Army criminal investigator Rachel Hatch is a drifter. No home. No commitments. Until her sister's drowning forces her back to the town she left fifteen years ago.

Convinced her sister's death was no accident, Hatch partners with the local sheriff, Dalton Savage to uncover the truth. Every answer unlocks another question, and as the investigation begins to unravel, Hatch and Savage find their lives on the line.

Hatch is forced to use her special set of skills - forged on the field of combat - to learn the truth about her sister and bring those responsible to justice.

The first novel in one of the most highly-anticipated collaborative series this decade, DRIFT is a tightly woven story, with deeply-developed and endearing characters that will have you rooting for them at every turn, set at an exhilarating pace that will keep you turning pages late into the night.

Review

Two accomplished crime novel authors and one talented narrator collaborate to produce an arresting listening experience introducing ex-Army criminal investigator Rachel Hatch. Rachel returns to her Colorado hometown to look into the bizarre circumstances of her sister's death. Rachel is one tough heroine, and narrator Marnye Young gives her a resolute voice that is, at the same time, undeniably feminine. The voices of the other female characters are also well executed, especially the gentle tones of Rachel's mother and the plucky voice of the sheriff's office manager. Male characters are clearly differentiated and capably portrayed. This mystery moves quickly and leaves listeners eager to hear Rachel's next adventure. Hatch is on the Case - Watch Out!

Hatch is on the Case - Watch Out!
Army Veteran Rachel Hatch return home to find her sister dead. But her "drowning" was actually murder and Hatch won't stop until justice is served. L.T. Ryan's newest character follows clues and dead ends and uses her military training to save her neck (and others', too) in this page-turner. Filled with twists and turns, I couldn't put it down. Now I'm waiting for book two!

Like the writing style and professional skills of these two writers. Too many just blather on without knowing or caring what they are saying. Only drawback for me was trying to feel a connection to Hatch, but definitely will continue to follow through on this series. Would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys excellent story telling by writers who check facts as opposed to those who just make them up as they go.

This is a good start for this series of books. It has a lot of great action and introduces the main character very well. The only problem I have is that a lot of people are now doing knockoffs of Reacher. This is one of them. I’ll see how it goes the further we get into the series.

I'm a fan of the Jack Reacher series, and this seemed to share similar themes so I thought it was worth a shot. Overall it's a well written story with former army protagonist Rachel Hatch returning to her hometown to investigate the death of her twin sister. It's a quick, but enjoyable read with a good supporting cast. It's classed as a mystery but I see it as more of an action novel with a few procedural elements thrown in.

Where things fell down for me is with the character of Hatch herself. The authors make an effort to portray her as this bad-ass ex special forces heroine, which is great, but she comes across as extremely arrogant and not really likeable in any way. I rolled my eyes whenever she'd spout another one of her many cliched lines like ""Not too many people get to point a gun at me and live to tell about it" or "I rarely misread a person or situation". She seems so selfish that even the death of her sister is taken more like a personal insult, rather then the tragedy it really is. She pursues the villains simply for vengeance, not for her sisters kids, or her mother, and certainly not for justice. It's hard to like such a character, which makes the blurb's claim of "enduring characters you can root for at every turn" quite comical.

If you can overlook that, this is a fun read. I'll try the second one and see if Hatch's character gets any better.

If you've read Reacher books or watched the Netflix series you'll like this female version of former military Hatch. She has no problem fighting the bad guys and roams the country with no home of her own.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. Rachel's sister is found dead under suspicious circumstances, so she goes home to find out what the investigation has discovered.
As ex Army CID, Rachel does some investigating on her own and soon finds herself assisting the Sheriff with his investigation.
All is not what it seems within the community and the local mining company. The situation deteriorates rapidly, can they unravel the puzzle before more people are injured or worse?
I really enjoyed this book, the twists and turns were compelling and the characters interesting.
I'm looking forward to reading book 2 in the series.
