Third book in the Others of Edenton series - Shadows Fall #1.5. Is a great lunch time read! Even without reading the first two books you could get a quick glimpse into the style and setting of the books. Lots of paranormal creatures (nymphs, mages, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, etc) in normal society governed by the Silver Council. And now a quick glimpse into the story...

Amethyst is over Carl, but she just can't get rid of him. He is stalking her, breaking into her house, anything to spend time with her and convince her to take him back. She could easily get him to leave using her powers, but she doesn't want to use him like that... what is she to do? Carl takes the problem out of her hands by reporting her to the Silver Council. She is "jailed" for several weeks before charges are dropped. Now she has to decide what to do next - how will she get rid of him? and what will she do next? Give this book a try to meet the purple haired fairy nymph who will star in the next book!

Favorite Passage: "...Are you two lovers?" She felt the blood rush to her face and knew she blushed furiously. "No. Definitely not. I'm too young." Amethyst signed, remembering her embarrassment when he told her that a decade before. "Besides, he was involved with my mother years before she had me. So that would be awkward."

Up next - Shadows of the Past - where we get the rest of Amethyst's story!

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank the author and Carrie, the moderator of Lovers of Paranormal group of Goodreads for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this book.

This is the novella that gives us an introduction of Amethyst's life before she moves on to Edenton. We get a glimpse of her life with her Ex Carl and the problems they had. Carl went to extremes to get Amethyst back and by extreme I mean it literally.

It laid a great plot for the next novel and also gave us the little details about Amethyst and her background. I loved this novella like all other books in this series. A great read!!!

    ~ Brandy L Rivers ~

I've always loved books, especially about monsters and magic, so I started writing. I'm working on a prequel and the next few books in the Others of Edenton series, and I have a head full of stories to share.

I'm a stay at home mother with a wonderful husband who lets me write and write to my hearts content.

First of all, let me say I LOVE this series. I have read all the books, but I personally didn't feel this story was worth telling in a separate book. I really enjoyed the follow up book with Amethyst, but I don't feel reading this was imperative to enjoying the next one. I think it is actually more important to read the other books for the series. I am still giving it 3 stars, because for what it was, I feel it is well written and enjoyable. I feel it should have been a free novella though.

Shadows Fall is the story before Amethyst shows up in Edenton. Though it is short, it really gives you an emotional back story to why Ame is leaving. Preston was the sweetest, and I am left with questions to his past, but Brandy has said there is possibly going to be a book on him, so I look forward to that. This book shows how Amethyst truly feels about being a nymph with her powers based off of love and lust. She is tired of being thought of as weaker, and takes things into her own hands. Carl was a perfectly creepy antagonist, which makes him a good choice. I look forward to Amethyst and Hayden's story and definitely suggest reading this book

While definitely short, this story gives us a great peek into Amethyst's head and sets up her move to Edenton (in book 2) where she will undoubtedly get tangled up in trouble and romance. Frankly, after what she went through in this book, she deserves the romance part.

While her incarceration was bad (especially since she had done nothing to warrant it), it was the way everyone was pushing her to use her magic on Carl to get rid of him that got me. Since her options were stuck between bad and worse, Amethyst had a very tough decision to make as to how she wanted him dealt with. She could do the very thing she'd been accused of and use her power against him (although it was to make him lose interest, not to enthrall) or she could let her well-meaning friends kill him and get rid of in a very permanent sense.

Poor Amethyst is a wreck by the time this story ends. It'll be very interesting to see how she pulls herself out of her despair over what she had to do.

Again, this is a teaser/set-up for book 2, so don't expect all the issues to be resolved. If you've picked up any of the previous books (and you should because they're very captivating!) and you're chomping at the bit for book 2, pick this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant little Novella.

This little novella was brilliant, Its all about Amethyst the nymph and her deluded ex boyfriend Carl the warlock. I loved the insight into the way Amethyst is, she is not as feisty as Fallen and Jess (Others of Edenton) but she can still hold her own and I know for sure I'm going to like her. I'm super excited to read Shadows of the past which is Amethyst's story!! I'm just wondering how Hayden's going to take to the pretty little nymph.....

Brandy L Rivers draws you into the story with her writing, I love this series and think it is brilliantly wrote with brilliant and lovable characters!!

This book should be read before Shadows of the Past. It introduces us to Amethyst and describes the situation she was in with Carl and why she ended up in the enforcers cells. The problem is that this is all covered in Shadows of the Past and I didn't feel that anything was gained by reading this. Even the scene in which Carl summoned the Shadow was disappointing to say the least. Everything seemed to be skimmed over, and the time that she spent in the cells told us nothing of how the Council worked. That would have been worth reading.
Would I feel differently if I'd read them in reverse order? Maybe, but I didn't so it's difficult to say.
To me it was just a waste of time.
If you have already read Shadows of the Past don't bother with this. If you haven't then make sure that you read this book first.

Out of all of the books this is possibly the one I could have got away without purchasing. It is a short novella that fills in some of the history of Amethyst prior to Shadows of the Past.

It was as well written and compelling as all of the other books in the series and knowing that I had Shadows of the Past lined up and ready to read meant that I didn't feel that it was too short.

This is a fantasy novelette which centres on the finishing of a relationship between Amethyst, a nymph and Carl, a warlock. The Silver Council, a body set up to police the Others, adds more characters and faces to the story as do Opal, Amethyst's mother and Fallon, her best friend.

It was well written, I enjoyed it but it was very short...didn't really compel me to want to read more.
