Silver Scars Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 259 ratings

Gil sees hope for the first time since an explosion left his body and mind shattered. After meeting Keith, a man thriving despite his physical disability, Gil is determined to heal, face his PTSD, and take back his life.

A bomb destroyed lawyer Gil Lemieux’s seemingly perfect life, and PTSD has ruled every decision since the explosion that left him scarred inside and outside. Moving home with his mom was meant to be temporary, just like proofreading for a medical editorial firm. But two years after taking on the wrong court case, he’s still living in fear.

Keith Kramer might be based 1,500 miles from Gil, but their shared work brings them together—a chance meeting that’s life-changing. Gil is drawn to Keith’s good looks and intelligence, but it’s his innate understanding that Gil is more than his scars that’s truly attractive. He’s everything Gil used to be and more. It blows Gil’s mind that his attraction might be returned.

Only doubt could widen the distance between them. Keith’s hopefulness, borne out of surviving some tough challenges of his own, isn’t enough to bridge the distance alone. Gil will need to believe he has as much to offer as Keith if they’re to build a life together.

A story of hope, compassion, healing, and unexpected love.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This is not your usual romantic story. It goes way beyond that. I had the impression I was there, in the book, living in alongside Gil and Keith. They felt so real, their story felt real and I'm sure that, for someone out there, this is not a story at all. ~Mikky's World of Books
...this is a story about two people two needed each other building a life together through their ups and downs. It was tender and softly emotional rather than being a wild ride.
~Amy, Inked Rainbow Reads
This was a wonderful story about healing and recovery, finding love and someone that believes and understands what the other is going through.
~The Blogger Girls
This book was not what I expected at all, in the best possible way. I feared a book filled with angst and despair but got a story about determination and hope.
~The Way She Reads
This book is about one of the greatest losses that we may encounter. The loss of ourselves, of our identity, but it is also a book about hope and second chances. It is a book full of hope and optimism. Read it because it's worth it.
~Three Books Over the Rainbow
The writing is brilliant, as is the plot, and the characters just jump off the page and straight into your heart!
~Bike Book Reviews
This was a book about living. Posy has a knack of writing rip your heart out stories. She mends them and put them back, don't worry. But getting through this book with dry eyes is not possible! Beautiful, angsty book!

Posy Roberts started reading romance when she was young, sneaking peeks at adult books long before she should’ve. Textbooks eventually replaced the novels, and for years she existed without reading for fun. When she finally picked up a romance two decades later, it was like slipping on a soft hoodie . . . that didn’t quite fit like it used to. She wanted something more.

She wanted to read about men falling in love with each other. She wanted to explore beyond the happily ever after and see characters navigate the unpredictability of life. So Posy sat down at her keyboard to write the books she wanted to read.

Her stories have been USA Today’s Happily Ever After Must-Reads and Rainbow Award finalists. When she’s not writing, she’s spending time with her family and friends and doing anything possible to get out of grocery shopping and cooking.

This story felt so incredibly real for me. Posy Roberts is a new-for-me author, and I picked this one to try. So glad I did. Being mature myself (physically anyway!), I like having characters I can relate to better. I've never experienced anything traumatic though, fortunately, so it was quite interesting to read this take on PTSD. I've read books with military characters, but of course they deal with different causes.

The description of Gil's journey and experiences, as well as Keith's, seemed very realistic to me. I include the setbacks they felt, as I'm sure that can be even harder to deal with for some. This was a rather low-key story overall, but it was never boring or tedious to read. It was also a beautiful romance. It was insta-love, in a way, but it was handled so well, with the majority being long distance. Their conversations were touching, both the virtual and face-to-face. I was concerned when starting this, since I'm not a fan of angst-fests, but this was mostly uplifting. I'm sure I'll be reading more by this author.

Two men who's been hurt, one by a bomb with following scars and PTSD and the other one by getting in the middle of a gang shooting and hurting his leg, meet and find love.

When Gil meets Keith there's an instant attraction and love soon follows and we get to follow them on the journey of healing and building a life together. It's not always a straight path and there's set backs, but over everything else the love and support they have for each other shines through.
Beautiful book and a beautiful couple.

Sliver Scars by Posey Roberts was one of those sweet little surprises that I live for. This is the story of Gil Lemieux who had a perfect life until it's blown to bits by a nutcase. He meets Keith Kramer and the two of them begin a 1500-mile relationship that develops into a true adult love story. I say I adult love story because it was so darn refreshing to have adults who were expressing their adult emotions in such an honest and terrifyingly human way. I enjoyed their journey and I honestly enjoyed the ending. The sex was sexy to me and the healing was inspiring. Overall I really don't have any big complaints. It hit me on the right day, the right way. Both mothers were sweet but when Gil's mom uttered the line a boy needs his mother I completely cracked up.

It wasn't a horrible book. Not at all.
And, since we are in quarantine I should have plenty of time to read just about anything... But. And this is a big but: I am not in the mood to spend my time where I am not enjoying myself.

So, this is not a bad book, I just didn't like the course it was taking. It might get better (I mean, I just started), however, I had an idea of how I thought this book was gonna happen and it turns out, it has nothing to do with what I imagined (totally my fault) based on the blurb.

I thought the main character would give a harder time to be seduced and he would be a tough one to charm out of his shell, but it feels to me like he is the one doing the seducing part. So. Very early on I decided: I ain't gonna read this.

If you really want to, please don't let this review stop you. I'm in a weird mood right now.

I took a gamble on this book. Its been sitting on my kindle for awhile. It covers some very intense subjects however it describes how the main characters have coped on their growth and diversities. The one thing I had was the book was so long and while that isn't a bad thing, I did tend to grow a bit bored in places. Overall the subject matters were covered well and the main characters while suited just didn't seem to have the connection I felt that really should have. But worth the read.

I must say I'm not a big fan of stories told in present tense, but I thought I'd give this one a chance, since it's by one of my favorite authors--
I can definitely say I'm not sorry; in fact, I'm thrilled.
Silver Scars is the story of two men searching for love and validation, even after each has had horrific medical issues. They help each other overcome these, with one leaning on the other at various times.Strides forward and setbacks are each handled with great love and determination. The language, the imagery, the flow of the story--all were exceptional. Definitely one of the better books I've read this year, and I've read a lot :) Great job, Ms. Roberts.

My favorite books are basically about the two main characters without a lot of other family or friends to take the focus off my guys. And I get seriously invested in them. In this book there isn't a misunderstanding that supposedly gets the guys at odds . Not a fan of that sort of plotting. These two men have plenty on their plate without that. So cool to find an author who has a great way of bringing these two men to life. I got attached. Loved it!

I found this to be a unique story that I enjoyed. It did tend to drag a little bit in places, but, it would then pick back up and hold your interest. I thought the dynamic between the 2 main characters was compelling and enjoyed experiencing their different interactions and roles as the story unfolded. I felt invested in these characters and enjoyed the way the author wrapped everything up at the end and left us satisfied.

This is a staggeringly blunt look at PTSD, it's daunting, the nightmare that Gil lives is horrific and blatantly in your face. An amazing piece of work that must have needed sooo much research to cover several topics. Then also we take a painful journey with Keith and the body trauma he suffers, these two men are stunning, their attempts to be together despite the many hiccups along their journey make for a wonderful tale. And then there's Frankie, what can I say, everybody needs a friend like Frankie, just wow!

This book was a surprise. A very nice surprise. I liked the fact that the characters were both damaged, emotionally and physically yet they both had the will to survive and create a life for themselves, together. It was very well written enabling the reader to get right under the main protagonists skin. There was no light fluff in it at all, it was a serious story and it had utterly believable characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the m/m genre, its so much better than a lot of the dross that is churned out.

This book was an absolute pleasure to read. If any two people had the right to want to give up in life it was Gil and Keith. Somehow even though these two men had more than enough things to deal with by themselves they still found the strength within themselves to be there for each other. I think the author did a fantastic job with Gil's PTSD - I felt all the heartache and fears right along side him. Keith was such a strong character and I felt myself routing for these two to have the happily ever after they deserved.

Ms. Roberts has created a story with all the good feels of a happily-ever-after despite seemingly countless bumps along the road to happiness for Gil and Keith. Both men have enormous physical and emotional challenges to face. Their growing love for each other and the support they offer during the difficult times are the heart and soul of this story. If you enjoy a tale with substance, depth, and love, treat yourself to Silver Scars. A beautiful tale!

Interesting story, but too many repetitive sentences. Writing is a bit on the juvenile side. As well, plot seems to stall or becomes too circular. Could have been a truly amazing story if other aspects of the story, outside of the two main characters, were as equally developed.
