Sleepwalking: A Lesbian Romance Novella (Awakened Fate Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 419 ratings

How many times have you walked past your soulmate without even noticing her?

Leah McAllister thought she had her future all figured out—graduate, move to the city, start a career. Easy. Except her post-college life is suddenly a fog of “what ifs,” and the only thing she can focus on is her student newspaper role... and the woman she’s been sent to interview.

Morgan Park is older, confident, and devastatingly composed. She runs her department like she runs her life—with passion and purpose. But underneath that polished surface, there’s a heartbreak she’s still unraveling, a relationship that collapsed under the weight of mental illness and dreams deferred. Neither woman is looking for something new. But when Leah walks into the interview with her notepad and nervous energy, something shifts. Sparks. Suddenly, this sleepy town doesn’t feel so small—and the future doesn’t feel so impossible.

Love doesn’t always arrive when you're ready. Sometimes, it shows up right on deadline.

Sleepwalking is a very short prequel, which concludes in Awakened, and introduces the MC's and the story's conflict. It is written with depth and draws you in. When I got to the end, I immediately had to get Awakened to find out what happens.

Cara Malone does a wonderful job portraying women who fall outside the “bell curve”, and the women who love them. The spotlight shines on challenges of life for those who are not “normal”, and Malone shows us an honest and sensitive snapshot.

I had three people tell me I should read it for some given reason, and one person tell me she just did not "get" it and I could explain it to her.

This is an introduction to a story, establishment of the parameters of a story, but it is not the whole story. The characters are only partially established, behaviors do not really make sense-- something common to all flavors of romance-- and it seemed to be stumbling over itself instead of moving forward.

I did not read the blurb for the next portion, and as much as I hate to admit it, I really do not want to dig more deeply into the various life stories for the characters. It is segments without context, and while some form of motivation is being shown, it is not enough to make the characters seem real.

It was good enough to be interesting, but not enough to keep me interested in the characters.

That is why I went to two stars-- there was a lack of focus and an incomplete story, more like an introduction than a prequel novella.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be Sleepwalking after ready this little firecracker.

Wow, this story had my head spinning. I was in turmoil, first from the sexy awakening of Leah about her sexuality and then the heat that generates from Leah meeting Morgan. Leah certainly has a very intense twenty four hours. I can still feel the heat on my face from the blush of reading about Leah's experiences. Those inner thoughts you have when you meet someone who gets your heart pumping. I was torn about what I should be thinking in regards to Morgan and Allisons situation. Malone whips us into a frenzy of emotions in such a short time and then it's over. Thankfully this was the prequel to Awakened and I don't have to wait to find out if there is a future for Leah and Morgan.

As this was only my second Malone book I was most impressed. I have noticed that she has certain characters continuing in some of her other books, I love the crossover and look forward to reading more from Cara Malone, an interesting writer.

Hard story to get into, but once you get into it it's a good one.

I expected the ending differently. On the one hand disappointing, on the other hand very beautiful.

"No one knows what they're doing. It's a lie perpetrated by people who are afraid to admit that they're flailing around just as aimlessly as the rest of us"
