Dear Readers,
Sleigh Magic is a departure from my novels, but I was inspired. Some years ago, when I was still teaching, I was reading Christmas stories to a group of six-year-olds. One little boy named Eric put up his hand and asked, "But Mrs. Vaughan, where did Santa get the elves?" I went blank. I told him I didn't know, but I'd look it up. I could find no origin story about the elves. The issue nagged at me until I had to create my own story. So that is how this book came to be. Sleigh Magic tells how the elves came to the North Pole to build the toys for Santa. I hope you and the children who read it enjoy my effort and Thomas's wonderful illustrations.

I wanted to write as soon as I learned to read. I dabbled with stories and poems for years, but didn't start writing seriously until many years later. My favorite books have always been mysteries and romances, so the mix in romantic suspense was a natural. My stories throw the hero and heroine together under extraordinary circumstances and pit them against a clever villain. My books have been both a Romantic Times Magazine Reviewer's Choice Nominee and a finalist for the Daphne du Maurier Award. Reviewers have called my books fast-paced, thrilling, action-packed, sizzling, and highly emotional.

I have also published two children's picture storybooks, SLEIGH MAGIC and STOWAWAYS: A MAINE PIRATE TALE.

I am a West Virginia native but I have lived for many years on the coast of Maine.

    In our home, every December evening is graced with a Christmas story as we anticipate the holiday. We added Susan Vaughan's lovely book this year. It's an enchanting story, beautifully illustrated, delightful for children and adults. It will remain a tradition in our family. I highly recommend it .
