Broken Trust (The Broken Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 466 ratings

I’m what some people call the bogeyman. Most people have the good sense to be afraid of me. Unfortunately, my best friend’s little sister is NOT most people.

She’s not afraid of me at all. But she should be. She doesn’t know the secrets I’m hiding.

Look, Lucia Demarco is a handful. She’s stubborn, gorgeous, a magnet for trouble, and sets my blood on fire.

Ignore that last part. I can’t have her. I promised my best friend on his deathbed that I’d always take care of her. And I have…never you mind about the thoughts that plague me at night

The point is, she’s been poking her head where it doesn’t belong and now some idiots are about to find out why they call me the reaper.

I hear former hitmen make the best bodyguards. True story!

I’ll keep my word and keep Lucia safe. And I absolutely refuse to give in to her sunny smile or sharp wit.

I can be strong. Or will I risk just one taste?

A standalone romantic suspense with a morally gray anti-hero willing to do anything for the woman he has pledged his life to protect. Previously called the Shameless series, Broken Trust is a completely revised and expanded edition with no cliffhanger and three epilogues. CW available on the author's website.

BOOKWORM REVIEW: Broken Trust by M. Malone and Nana Malone
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥 Did you ever wish that action movies like the Bourne series had more spice to them? Then you need to start this series. Lucia has been Noah's charge since she witnessed her brother Rafe's murder years ago, and she wants to know why it happened. Her curiosity puts her in danger, so now Noah needs to step in and protect her. But Lucia also wants one more thing: for Noah to view her as more than a sister. Noah has been keeping more than one secret. The first is his feelings for his best friend's sister. The other is information about Rafe's death. As Lucia keeps digging into the latter, she also starts to uncover the former. But they don't have enough time to explore their forbidden connection as Rafe's murderer is still at large.. This was a fun and sexy read that will leave you on the edge of your seat. The suspense, the spice, the chemistry. The Malones did not play with this kick-off; they establish the sizzling tension quickly and build and build and build. I got so invested in Lucia and Noah, and I thoroughly enjoyed that their love was in the midst of an enticing chess match. There is no cliffhanger, but this series start gives us readers a foundation for the next book.

OMG! This is a thoroughly entertaining book. Passionate and suspenseful. The couple has a connection so strong even though they have known each other for years the passion for them is strong. These two are great storytellers ! I have highly enjoyed this book, it's another one that has kept me up way past my bed time and the first thing I pick up the next day. All doing the day my Kindle is in my hands and my nose was deep in the story. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. I have enjoyed the humor and also, the story line with this couple it's outstanding. It's so passionate; it builded you up and didn't fizzle out. However, the interaction between Lucia and Noah is explosive in its own right these two match each other in wits and passion they constantly strike sparks off each other. There is plenty of action to keep you entertained and there is a lot going on at any given time, which is not surprising. I like that Lucia always does give as much as she gets what can I say bout this story: its exceptional, funny, and heartbreaking, powerful!!! There are so many parts that require commentary that I would be writing a book myself this amazing story!!! it's a memorable book of this series. These men refuses to give up Noah can be rude to just about anyone, but you can't help but like him. This was a feel good read with easy to love characters who just wanted to love and be loved.

It was a very good read. Interesting plot that made it very easy to enjoy. The only thing I have to say wrong about it is when it takes 300+ pages to build the story/plot and it takes less than 1 chapter to wrap it up. The build up was 20x's longer than it should've.
That being said, I really did enjoy this and will eventually read the story of JJ, but just not right away.

On the one hand, this book is well written and formatted, with little to no grammatical or spelling errors (hallelujah!). Actually I don't recall any, so if there were any, they weren't bad enough to take me out of the story.
BUT on the other hand, I will say I started skipping over all the sex scenes. I'm all for a steamy scene but in this book, it was like the author had a quota to fill and was adding them in on every chapter. It got a bit old and honestly was part of the reason it felt like the story dragged a bit. Seriously he had a stab wound in his gut that got infected and they couldn't wait a week or so until he could move his abs without pain? Am I just old and grouchy here or doesn't allowing someone to heal up before you jump their bones mean you love them too?

I usually love this kind of story - guy gets out of the military or mafia and starts a security company and tries to fly straight kind of thing. Which is probably why I managed to read the entire book.

I gotta be honest and say I'm usually the dummy who doesn't put too much thought into the mystery behind what's happening in the story and is content to just let it play out. But this one I figured out before halfway through and then it felt a bit tedious experiencing the characters lack of communication. Then it was like suddenly things were moving and the storyline was cranking along and then it was done. So a bit of weird pacing there. I'm still not sure why the guy was after Lucia to begin with. And what happened with Brent and the Del Tino's? Which is a bit of a strange name and always makes me want pizza. Things still weren't very clear in the epilogues and I don't think they'll be clarified in the next book. Other things were a bit odd and annoying as well. Lucia helped with fashion week but it didn't seem like she was getting much work done most of the time. Yet she still had a job? And the age gap between Lucia and Noah was ok except I found it hard to believe Noah was so experienced at that young of an age (25? 26?). And especially when you count backwards and realize how young Noah and Rafe had to have been when Rafe died...yet they both were supposedly so good at their shiny assassin jobs? It would have been more believable if Noah and Rafe were in their 30s already, and the only reason I can think of that they weren't was because Noah had to be Lucia's first? And they had to have that whole big misunderstanding - which, again, adds to both the number of sex scenes and the overall length and lack of plot movement in the story.

I do want to read JJ's story since she seemed like an interesting character but I'm not sure I'll go out of my way to remember to pick up her book when it releases a few months from now.

An electrifying blend of romance, suspense, and mystery that kept me riveted from start to finish. This novel is packed with twists and turns, making it impossible to put down. Their interactions are filled with witty banter that had me laughing out loud, only to be followed by moments of deep emotion that tugged at my heartstrings. This dark romance was my first experience with M. Malone and Nana Malone's writing, and it certainly won't be my last. "Broken Trust" is a must-read.

Interesting turn of events the twist totally got me! I 100% thought there was going to be a book 2 of the Lucia and Noah but the excitement happened in the epilogue which was different and odd but okay.

I just cannot believe all the 5 star reviews for this. I gave up 30% mark. Just dragging on. I am sure it would get more exciting, but I lost patience. Sadly this series is not for me.
