Smuggler's Justice (Smuggler at Large Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

Within moments of arriving on Amazon, Master Smuggler Sophocles Errant is witness to a brutal murder. But he's an off-worlder, a cyborg, and a man - guilty until proved innocent as far as the ruling party is concerned. He's got big secrets to hide, and it's not just his life at stake; things will get much worse if those secrets get out. It's just days before the election, and Sophocles - and whether or not he's the real murderer - become a hot potato political issue.

Things heat up further when his lawyer's family complicates matters - her grandmother is the retiring Prime Minister, her mother's the candidate for the party that wants to see him dead, her aunt's planning a coup, and her cousin is a psychopath. She ought to be conflicted, but Melia Dawn is serious about getting her client the justice he deserves, even if the entire corrupt justice system is stacked against her.

This is one of those books so special that you start to feel soul-crushing devastation when you run out of pages! You are taken to a land where Amazon women rule. Just before a major election there is a grand murder and cover-up. It's a race to trial before the election. Tensions mount. Everyone is calling for their own brand of justice. Melia, the accused's lawyer, has to find the real facts before the wrong person is punished. What will she discover is corruption. This story points to the flaws in not only the Amazon government of her world but overall. The cogs that keep the wheels of time moving are often greased in shady ways. Will justice win? This book ends with the promise of more to come. I surely hope I don't have to wait long! This is an insanely inspiring and moving tale. Simply phenomenal!

Like much SF/F, this book begins a bit slow; however, as pages rolled by, I became more and more involved with the characters, and found it harder and harder to put down. If I were rating it on the last half, I would give it a five. As it is, I will give it a four, since it did not hook me immediately. But if you are willing to read through the initial chapters, I think you will find the book great.

The author writes well, and I am looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. I am very happy with this purchase.

This book is about how it really doesn't matter how you try to do things the right way corruption always seems to find its way in. There is no government anywhere even one on a different planet that is exempt from it. This story takes place on a Amazon planet. Where there are two classes of Amazons. The Warrior class and the others who are more thinkers not fighters. But they are all huge Amazons so they could all hold their own. It is nice to see that people wont put up with government cover-ups and fight back to make it right. It was a good story.
