The Stone Key (The Novel Adventures of Nimrod Vale Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

Nimrod Vale used to think he was the unluckiest kid alive. His mother’s death seemed proof enough of that. But, since discovering his grandpa’s magical fountain pen and its ability to transport him into handwritten stories, he’s had other things on his mind. Like the fact that his grandpa disappeared without a trace three years ago. Nim suspects his grandpa is still alive, but trapped in one of his own fables.

With the help of his constant companion, the ever-talkative Pepper, Nim plans to enter his first story. When Pepper doesn’t show up, he decides to start the quest without her. Alone in a fantasy world that seems perfect at first, Nim finds nothing but dead ends. If he wants to discover any trace of his grandpa, he’ll need courage and the support of a friend—even if that friend isn’t talking to him anymore.

Nimrod and Pepper's second adventure was even more incredible than their first! When I met them in The Novel Adventures of Nimrod Vale Book 1, I got to know Nimrod fairly well. But I feel like I got to know Pepper a lot better in this adventure, and I love her! The two make an incredible pair.
Disclosure: I received a review copy from the author.

The second adventure was more thrilling than the first. The world they find and explore is so imaginative and beautiful. The author used a lot of scientific words and phrases to discuss events and clues they were following, but I found myself following along very easily, and even trying to guess at things here and there. I loved it!

The secondary story, which of course is Nim and Pepper's actual lives, focused more on Pepper this time, which is why I feel I know her so much better. There is so much more to her character than I realized. I'm so glad it was included in this story. I hope both Nim and Pepper's characters continue to grow with each new adventure they take.

Such a great follow-up to a wonderful middle grade series! I just love that Nim and Pepper have all of these wonderful adventures together. Their friendship is true, and I would love a friend like that! They remind me of Frodo and Sam, just Nim's a little more awkward.

In The Stone Key, Nim and Pepper find a new adventure as they go in search of Nim's grandfather, but there is trouble at home, too. The journey and growth of these two characters, along with the new friends they've made, make this very interesting. I loved it, and think you will too! Especially if you, or your child, loves clean reads.

I enjoyed this story immensely as an adult. I know children will love this series--full of layered characters, adventure, rich, though understandable language, and just the right length! Brown had me at "attic..." The Stone Key is a classic in waiting. Don't hesitate; buy, share, love this one.
