Raiden: Somnolence - Book 1 Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 16 ratings

I never expected to see my favorite rock band standing in the office of my high school getting their schedules. Kids my age aren’t known for touring the world and making music for the masses, but Somnolence is.

They welcome me. Raiden takes me in, loves me… it’s like a dream. Until darker forces, nightmares, and their own dark appetites come for me.

This title is in the mature New Adult genre and meant for an audience of 18+ due to triggering situations such as domestic violence and assault, PTSD, reference to sexual assault, sexual situations including MF, MFM, light MM & light FF, profanity and substance abuse.

Definitely a good and smooth read. . I appreciated the world building. Had me hooked from the first chapter. That's how I know I am going to be so invested in the book.
I was guessing myself at what the the band's "kind" was. If you like dark read I would say this is a mild one. It's on the darker side but beginner dark.
The last few pages had me feeling so bad for this specific character.
I'm curious to see what goes on in the next book!

I didn’t fully know what I was getting into when I started this, but I was so glad I picked up Raiden!

Lilah is just going about her normal life with her friend Vivi and avoiding her abusive father as much as possible when she walks into the front office of her school to see her favorite rock band picking up their school schedules. She gets volunteered to show the guys around and they all instantly click, except for Jonah/Jordan (that will make sense after you read the book) who pushes her away due to past girls hanging around the band.
Raiden the lead singer takes up an instant connection to Lilah or as he calls her Lilac. Once the boys find out about Lilah and her home situation they take her under their wings and watch out for her. And as Lilah gets closer to the guys she realizes they aren’t all human.
Will Lilah get out from her father’s thumb?
    What exactly are the boys?
What about the boys music career?
All of which is answered in the book!

Lilah I felt opened up to the boys very quickly. More quickly than what would be believable. I don’t know if that’s just the way that her character was written or if you could chalk it up to ptsd from everything. She does say that everyone at school knows her situation so she might as well come out with it as soon as she meets them, but still if what was happening to me at home like her I wouldn’t be telling people that I just met about it, especially if it was a band I idolized.
It was also pretty fast paced, which I didn’t fully mind as it kept it interesting and kept me wanting to read and it it was slower I think it might have lost my interest.
I think it would’ve been interesting to have a few chapters in Raiden’s POV just to get his side of things at least a few times. But with the secret of what paranormal things are going on I see why that wasn’t included.
Jumper and Lilah’s relationship was the best one after her and Raiden’s. I loved their brother/sister banter and playfulness, it made the story!
They played tons and tons of truth or dare… and towards the last couple games of it I was asking myself if they just didn’t know another game or what cause every free time was spent with that game, but several of the guys were absolutely obsessed with it.

I absolutely cannot wait for Trace’s story next! And to see how adding Raiden’s twin brothers into the mix will go!

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. This was a suspenseful story about Lilith, Vivian, Raiden, and the guys of Somnolence. Lilith is a young woman who is being abused by her father. Vivi is her best friend. When Raiden and the rest of the band start classes with them, they know their lives will never be the same. Stalkers, demons and abusive jerks keeps the characters on their toes.

Book 1 in the Somnolence series - a great start to the series to draw you in wanting more. Intriguing and enjoyable storyline - Lilah's favorite band is attending the same high school as her, and she gives them a tour. Her and the lead singer, Raiden, connect. It's well written, but also very dark and emotional, with lots of secrets, suspense, twists, and paranormal elements. Looking forward to seeing how the series plays out.

The novel was well thought out with twists and hurdles that they must overcome together. The budding romance between Raiden and Lilah and the way all of the characters want to protect Lilah is sweet and caring. This book was a great way to start the series and I look forward to Trace’s story next!

This is the first in a new series. Lilah is excited when she sees her favourite rock band in the high school office collecting their schedules, and Lilah is assigned to give the band a tour of the school. This is a well written story which is emotionally charged, dark, raw, gritty, and haunting, with secrets, twists, friendships, suspense, and love. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
