In a fight against destiny – who will win?
Ella has been waiting for Zac for three years. She’s convinced he’ll return for her, but fate has other plans. When Josh is thrown back into her life, Ella has a choice: step back on to her rightful path, or wait for the one who dared her to rebel.
But Ella’s not the only one missing Zac. Luci has been searching for her blue-eyed boy over two millennia and will stop at nothing to get him back. Even if that means hunting down the only girl he ever loved.
From Tuscany 5BC to 17th century witch hunts, Ella, Zac, Luci and Sebastian’s lives have been forever intertwined. The time has finally come to complete the circle.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2020OmG what a ride..... I read the Pathkeeper 4 years ago when it was just published (on the advice of a friend Renée Veldman-Tentori)....and boy have I been entertained, pleasantly surprised, shocked, kept busy... Etc etc.
I would recommend the Indigo Chronicles very highly to everyone but especially if you love fantasy, romance, love, suspense and unexpected plots and twists... Very well written, the author actually takes you places and I could not put down the Pathfinder and now the Son of Secrets. I only hope I don't have to wait as long for the last chapter/book in the series.... Hurry up already, suspense is already killing me💕
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2020Format: PaperbackI dread even writing this review because I know I can’t do the book justice, especially without spoilers....but here we go! This book gives a return to the life of Ella after some big changes have happened in her life. We have the introduction of a new character and the return of some from the first book that play a bigger role. Ella is still the same damaged, emotional wreck of a girl but she is growing up and getting stronger. I love that the author can make her characters strong and vulnerable at the same time.
Just like the first, The Path Keeper, this book is an emotional rollercoaster for the reader. I still wanted to throw my book across the room, but I didn’t dare let it leave my hands because I couldn’t put it down. The author’s ability to weave the story through time is incredibly beautiful, and the connections from one time period to another were spot on. The relationships! Can we just talk about the relationships in this story? Not really, because there would be spoilers....but guys! I literally had to stop reading so I could tell my mom what was happening over and over. I think I used the phrase gut wrenching in my review of the first book and it’s just as true in the second. Again, mentions of sexual assault, so here’s a trigger warning if that is a concern for you, but it’s gut wrenching in good ways, too. Go read this series right now. You won’t regret it! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review and thank you NJ Simmonds for creating such an imaginative world!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2020I love the ideas and the characters N.J. Simmons creates and this sequel did not disappoint. We also meet Luci this time around who is a force to be reckoned with. I'm a big fan of stories of fate and love and when you add angels into the mix it makes it even more interesting. I don't want to give away any plot spoilers but if you're looking for a good end of summer read, it's right here.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2020When I came across The Indigo Chronicles series one year ago I didn’t expected how much I would love it. I remember staying up till late hours while reading the 1st book and was really disappointed that I have to wait so long for the next book. So when I saw sequel available on NetGalley I request it right away.
It has been three years since the events that happened in previous book, The Path Keeper. After losing Zac, Ella is a total mess, drinking to much to numb the pain and having too many random man in her life. She’s doing bad job waiting for him and she isn’t sure anymore if there is point in waiting at all. Three years ago he told her to have faith in him and promised he will find her but she finds it hard to believe in his words anymore. This is the exact moment when the destiny acts again by appearance of Josh de Silva.
In the first book I couldn’t stand him, he seemed like full of himself rich boy who always gets what he want. And in the beginning of this book I still believed that but the more I learnt about him the more my opinion about him changed. He opens before Ella and tells her about his not so perfect live. I love to see him being so honest and I enjoy his relation in Ella. If his heart will be crashed in the next book, I think mine will break a little too.
And it’s hard not to mention new character, Luci. To be honest I feel really conflicted with this character. Her actions are often really questionable that I feel like I shouldn’t like her but somehow I just can’t not adore her. She is such a charismatic and intimidating woman and I was captivated by her and hope to see her in next book.
One of my favorite parts of this book (and previous one too) are flashbacks from the past. The history of Zac and Elle started two thousands years ago and so far I knew only a little about it. But in this book I finally could find out more about their first meeting in Fiesole and the beginning of their passionate love.
I enjoyed Son of Secrets more than the previous book. The story was even more captivating than in the first book and there’s a lot of action going on in different places as characters find themselves in different location (London, Tarifa, Morocco) so I couldn’t stop reading as I wanted to know what’s happening with all of them. This series is really addictive and I can’t wait to read next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite, extraordinary, epic!
The long-awaited book 2 in the Indigo Chronicles trilogy was worth twiddling my thumbs for. Oh my! Simmonds has created an absolute masterpiece brimming with good and evil, light and dark, love and hate, fate and destiny, questions and what-ifs. Then we have the historical element that she's so effortlessly woven into the timelines. I'm in awe. But the cherry on the cake with this novel is the fabulous, inimitable Luci , who we all need in our lives to cast out the mansplaining patriarchy. Clever. Very clever. It takes real skill and verve to create someone so bad yet so good, so necessary to humanity's progress at the very same time. As if all of that wasn't commendable enough... the author leaves us wondering what in the hell - scuse the pun - will.happen in book 3!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, can’t put down book of love, loss, Angels, Arch Angels and The Devil herself!!
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseA brilliant ‘can’t put down’ book. The story runs on from The Pathkeeper and is so exciting and daring and keeps the suspense going throughout. I cannot wait for the third book in this trilogy and if you haven’t read The Pathkeeper, it’s a must. Buy this book and lose yourself in a world where Angles, Arch Angels and Lucifer really exist.
