All she needs to get a head in this world is a shovel, a pickaxe, and an alibi.
In a world where crypts, secret passages, and broken cell phones are occupational hazards, psychic medium Fia, her cantankerous mentor Cam, and canine Psychopomp Zackie face another haunting challenge. When they encounter the headless spirit of a Jacobite hero, they embark on a mission to save this cursed soul from wandering the Scottish Highlands for all eternity. But their quest for his missing head is snookered by gaps in the historical record, not to mention modern British security systems that could net them more police attention than a chip shop.
Their search is complicated by a death mask inhabited by the spirit of a Chevalier, a complex and intriguing figure from the past. This enigmatic presence could hold the key to their mission or may be manipulating them for its own ends. An old enemy of the Chevalier puts Fia and her friends in the crosshairs, adding a dangerous twist to their already perilous journey.
As Fia and Cam struggle with clues from long ago to guide their search, they rely on the support of their friends, both living and dead, to unravel the mystery. But how can they succeed when the trail they must follow is colder than a cast-iron commode?
For fans of CBS and BBC One’s Ghosts, history enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever loved a dog, the Zackie Stories offer a thrilling adventure through time and the supernatural.

About the author

REYNA FAVIS is an Amazon Bestselling Author. She gleefully writes tales of supernatural suspense while dust gathers on the vacuum cleaner. Readers have praised her novels for the very human stories behind the hauntings that create unexpected plot twists, drama, and even moments of humor. Reyna served as a K9 handler and ground pounder for search and rescue for over 10 years. She was frequently found on her belly as she was dragged through the woods by a search dog. If you do not enjoy walks in the woods, she invites you to connect with her on Facebook. Reyna has a Ph.D. in biology and was one lab accident away from becoming a supervillain before she took up writing. She lives as an unapologetic introvert with her husband, dogs, and cats in New Jersey.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 20255th book in the series and I hope it’s not the last!
Flawed lovable characters with an interesting take on paranormal phenomenon, ghosts and the next life. I have difficulty stopping reading to join the real world. I recommend this book and the previous 4. Witty, snark, and historical information are part of the charm!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024The excitement of Zackie stories just gets better and better with each new book. When the group lands in Scotland, the descriptions of the locales almost made me feel the curling fog or the cold winds sneaking down a chimney. Crawling through the tunnels with Fia made me want to wash off the cold, clinging mud and question her dedication to helping a ghost find his head that had been removed after the battle of Culloden when the British thought they had finally killed Bonnie Prince Charlie. Thanks to The Outsider (Diana Gabaldon's books & subsequent television shows), the history was easy to follow. Poor Roderick who sacrificed his life, and his head, to give Charlie a chance to escape had been roaming Scotland ever since trying to find his prince. Great humor with the mask of the Chevalier, and breathtaking minutes as a murderer chases Fia through the darkness of caves & tunnels surrounded by bodies. Ms Favis does a delightful job of character conversations and interactions. I can't wait for the next Zackie adventure!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2024This was a great series too read. A little mystery, ghosts, life, some believable some hmm? interesting possibilities. Book five for me was a bit all over the place but that's okay. I would like to have book six address Fia's love story and back to life in the states. A bit of normal in all their lives, and spirits.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2025I have really enjoyed reading about Fia and her "Scooby" crew. The author Reyna Favis includes so many tidbits of history throughout the series. It has been a fantastic read. I am hopeful that Reyna Favis brings the team back to my side of the pond and continues with many adventures in the history of the Americas.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2025I found this book interesting. It was very much like a history lesson combined with a ghost story, combined with a mystery. Having watched a few documentaries on the Jacobites and the Bonnie Prince, I could tell that the author did very good research for this book. I really hope that there are more Zackie books coming.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2025I enjoy reading about where you get ideas from and the links you include. Thanks for writing such a fun books.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2025I can recommend this AND series to anyone. There's a very good story and plot in each book in this series. You don't necessarily have to read them in order, but I certainly recommend reaching the 1st book & then skip around it you'd like. very enjoyable!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2024I love Zackie, and I like the other characters, but I'm tired of Hannah, Phebe, McPherson, and especially the baby. They need to move on. I appreciate the links to historical notes at the end. Maybe I'll find time to read them. What really gripes me is bad grammar/misuse or misspellings. Chapter 8 had "unphased" which should have been "unfazed" and I notice a lot of younger authors get it wrong, so I suspect their education. Chapter 9 had "puss" instead of "pus" for the oozy stuff in a sore. Puss is a cat. Other than being tiered of the four spirits, and not caring a lot about the storyline in this book, I will read the next Zackie book. I liked the prior ones better, but I do like that Fia is dealing with her demons and moving on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Love this book and the other 4. Zackie is the one I follow as I find her to be plausible and the stories make great reading. Have now read all 5. Hope No 6 isn’t too long in being published.

5.0 out of 5 stars so Entertaining, a history lesson imbedded in a Great End (maybe!?) of the series
I cannot remember in all my three score and 14 years having read a story as good as this series told. Well done, Reyan Favis! Very memorable and very well written!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written story
This series is beautifully written and very well researched. Book 5 continues the theme of exploring the lives of many people, showing the culture and history of the individuals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 5
5 books in and the cast keeps on growing.
Over the series so far, there has been an interesting mix of history and fantasy and the author rounds things off nicely each book but with enough to move onto the next book .
