Voice of Mars: 10th Anniversary Edition (Starship's Mage Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 259 ratings

Some say you can’t go home
Some say you just shouldn’t

Damien Montgomery has risen from nothing to become a Hand of the Mage-King of Mars, empowered to speak with his King’s voice and dispense his King’s justice across the star systems of the Protectorate.

But the rare magical gifts and iron integrity that have lifted him this far are a frail shield against the ties that bind. Duty to his King brings Damien into the heart of an incipient civil war, charged to bring peace between two star systems—one of them his home!

On the one hand is a woman and a world he loved. On the other are apparent innocents, with evidence of his homeworld’s treason.

As the evidence and the dead begin to pile up, Damien must decide which he trusts most: his evidence, his intuition—or his heart?

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the first Starship’s Mage novel, author Glynn Stewart and publisher Faolan’s Pen are proud to bring you this new revised edition of the first five books in the best-selling science fantasy series.
Please note that while this edition has been edited and revised for clarity, the story and events are the same as the previous version.

Well written and ties nto the flow of the story line,as well as sets up the next story line. Good book.

I don't think the other ones going to be ready for a while. But it was a good ending for a run here so and it is set up for what is next.

I really like these books except once per book the hand is a total idiot. I feel like the author cheats for dramatic effect. I also question the fanatic behavior of the "bad guys". Mercenaries just don't throw their lives away. Otherwise great books with cool worldbuilding.

A great follow-up to a great follow-up. Love how the story is progressing. Can't wait to read the next one.

I've been enjoying re-reading this series as the 10th anniversary editions come out. It's even more fun with the benefit of hindsight - all the clues were there but I didn't catch the significance the first time through. This is the book though where it became really clear that something fishy is going on and that there are unknown players pulling strings behind the scenes. Of course it'll take us several more books to figure out who and why but that's part of the journey and part of the fun. If you're here for the first time through, you're in for a treat. This is a solid, fast moving book which both expands our view of this universe and of the players but also is just fun to read and hard to put down! You'll probably want to read the first two books first, but don't let that stop you, just get them all. You won't regret it. I received an advance review copy.

Hand of the King of Mars Damien Montgomery is sent to stop a conflict between the planets Mingling and his home system of Sherwood over the resource rich system of Antonius that they share rights to mine. Freighters from both planetd are being destroyed by seemingly the other system. Each planet has fairly powerful local space naval forces and could easily start full scale conflict if Damien cannot what is really happening. To make it even more interesting the commander of the Sherwood fleet is his old girlfriend.
The book includes intrigue and much space combat. Love the series and this book.

As an Advance Reader I have read all the Starships Mage books but it’s been awhile since I have revisited the older books. I didn’t realize how much I missed Damien Montgomery in his Hand of the Mage King role. This is a great book and gets us some backstory on Damien’s relationship with Grace McLaughlin and the mysterious enemies who have no compunction about murdering innocents. I thoroughly enjoyed it

This is another great space adventure but it is also a bit of a mystery.
Are the good guys actually the bad guys? Are the bad guys really the good guys? Are both sides victims or are both sides bad guys?
As always with Stewart there is lots of action, but raw power matters less than cleverness and bravery.

I received an Advanced Reviewer Copy.

Our hero is really growing into his role. The combination of magic and space tech makes for interesting reading along with complicated political manoeuvres.
