- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2021This was a great follow-up to the Vineyard in Alsace. I thoroughly enjoyed both books! The characters are well developed and likable. I hope there will be many more in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2020Starting Over at the Vineyard in Alsace is a lovely novel I read by Julie Stout. This is book two in the Domaine des Montagnes series and enjoyed this very much. It worked for me as a stand alone novel.
This is a lovely story about second chances where the story is set in an absolutely gorgeous setting during the springtime in a French country wine region.
The characters were a delight to read about - their issues and all, which made for a very realistic story. I love that the story was very well written and a very nice escape read full of wonderful secondary characters that I am hoping to read about in the next installments of the book.
Overall, I enjoyed Lottie and Thierry's journey of love and lost, of acceptance and moving on. People cope in different ways and in their own time. It was nice to see the process of healing for each person who have suffered through some loss and grief.
The writing style was beautiful and easy to read. The author really understands human emotions and the mental health that takes a toll on our emotions and human interaction. A simple yet deep story that I loved reading about.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2020I wanted to like this more than I did. The setting is lovely and the main character, Lottie, is surrounded by loving relatives and great friends. The hero, Thierry, is troubled a bit as he is trying to recover from the loss of his first wife, but he is also doing his best to be a good partner to Lottie and her baby. I just found Lottie a bit immature. She has trust issues and strives to continually assert her independence so she keeps slapping back at every nice thing that Thierry does for her. And I just found that tiresome after a while.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2020Starting Over at the Vineyard in Alsace by Julie Stout is book two in the Domaine des Montagnes series. Even though I haven’t read book one, I had no issue following the story. It works well as a start alone.
It’s easy to understand why the protagonists have issues. However, I wanted to sit them down and say enough! Get over yourself and live your life. I’m glad they were able to begin to work through the grief and independence issues that afflicted them.
The many secondary characters were a nice addition, and I am sure we’ll see more of them in the rest of the series. At least I assume there will be more books to come. Ellie and Henri are sure to have a few tales of their travels, and we are left with weddings to plan and babies to be born.
This a nice story. I honestly like the secondary characters more than the heroine. Lottie comes off a bit on the childish side. She seems to have a lot of pent up resentment as well as trust issues to work through on her way to becoming a better partner, mother, daughter and sister. If there are sequels, I hope we see her continuing to mature.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2020The characters are great and their backstories are pretty interesting. The two main characters are going through a lot when they meet up. Uncertainty and confusion raise a lot of questions, while the friends seem to open up the possibilities. A baby may prove to be a protecting point. The locale is terrific. The history, surprises and suspense keep it all going well.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2020Starting Over At The Vineyard In Alsace is book two in the series but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this plot. I think it was an easy read, with great writing that draws you in. There is quite a bit of family drama in this novel and I was interested in how it panned out.
Julie Stock really knows how to write characters. They are realistic and well-written. The depth of the characters moved the plot forward.
Overall, I enjoyed this one. Give it a shot!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2020I really wanted to like this book. The setting was beautifully painted in words, but the main character, Lottie, was just annoying to me. She was very immature for her age, and ungrateful to people who wanted to help her. Thierry, her boyfriend, was in denial about still being in love with his deceased wife, and it took a while for him to agree to counseling.
I just didn't love this book, barely liked it. The editing was good, and it was clear that the author had researched the local area, but it just didn't work for me.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant read
An ok read. A lack of understanding between main characters became slightly tedious.
