Starting Point (Turning Point Book 3) (The Turning Point Series) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 848 ratings

After going past the point of no return and finally reaching breaking point, the only thing Matthew Elliott can do now is start over.

Matthew Elliott is a recovering man. As an ex-cop and ex-fighter, his new job teaching kids at the local community gym about drug awareness and self-defense, is a little bit of both. His new focus on helping street kids is helping him heal, and with Kira by his side, he’s making strides.

Brother and sister, Rueben and Claudia, are homeless kids and they're very much alone. As they strike a chord with Matt, he does everything in his power to help them. But when Ruby and Claude need more help than he bargained for, it stops being about work, and starts being about home.

The day he met Kira, Matt’s life changed direction, and it’s only now he realizes that everything he’s been through was a lead up to this. It was never about endings. His life, his purpose, was just beginning.

What a wonderful ending to this emotional roller coaster ride of a series. I laughed a lot, anxiously read at the suspenseful parts and cried at the extremely sad and happy parts. N R Walker has been a favorite author of mine since I began this journey through all of her books here on Amazon. This Series of hers cemented her favorite author in my list of favorites! It is a pleasure going through all of her books.

Reading Breaking Point (book 2) was grueling and sorrowful. I was expecting to be rewarded in Starting Point (book three) and I have not been disappointed. This book is all about the new beginning for Matthew and his career. It's about Kira continuing to be there and support Matt, with love and encouragement. Matt's chosen family continues to expand beyond Kira and is parents. Boss, Arizona, and Claude are joining, along with Matt's cop family.

I would LOVE to see Matt and Kira appear in another NR Walker book. I was thinking Spencer Cohen revisited, maybe a fundraiser, but Spencer would be supporting LGBTQ stuff and Matt and Kira would be supporting homeless youth. So.....IDK, I'd just love to see it happen like it did with Red Dirt Heart/Imago.

I enjoyed the audio version of this series and let me tell you, this narrator is fabulous. All the main characters have very distinctly different sounding voices and it's not campy. It's very consistent, too. Just a GREAT job by the narrator Sean Crisden.

I went in to this book with a few concerns. As another review states, I felt the story of Matt and Kira was pretty well ended with the last book. I wasn't sure if we needed another one. I read the description for Starting Point, it sounded ok, but not overly exciting.

After reading it, I have mixed feelings. I really did enjoy it, I promise!

My problem is, after the excitement, drama, action, and angst of the first two, this one was a little slow. I think if I had just read this one as a stand alone novel I wouldn't think that. There really wasn't anything wrong with it, the plot was good, I love the characters, and the writing was excellent. But I couldn't help comparing it to the others. Usually I'm pretty confident going in to a romance novel that the main characters will be together at the end of the story, but in Breaking Point I was NOT confident! Matt and Kira worked so hard to survive that mess. On one hand they totally deserved some happiness, which they get in this story, but on the other hand, I was expecting more drama.

But to review this book on its own merit. It was very good! Matt is settled at the FC, doing his thing, supporting the local kids, trying to make things better for the community. He's seeing a counselor, with and without Kira, and working through the mess in his head. He's still deaf in one ear and has vertigo episodes. Kira is still teaching at the gym they met at, being a good mate for Matt, and a good son to his folks.

In to their lives come Ruben, a 13 year old street kid and his sister Claudia, a 9 year old. The story centers around the kids, their issues and Matt and Kira trying to help. That and Matt trying to raise money for the FC. It was a good story about building a community, a life for these kids, recovering the trust they have in one another, and building a life together. It was gentle and sweet at times, with a bit of drama involving the kids. I cried, I laughed, and I cried some more. There is a dog, a wedding, and kids.

At the end of it I was very happy, shed some sad tears and some happy ones. When I let go of my need to compare this book to the previous two, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a nice, safe, sweet wrap up to a life of drama for Matt and Kira. I really wasn't disappointed at all. I'll miss the boys, but I know their lives continue and they are happy and together.

When I'm done with a book, I typically rate it on how I feel at the end. With this one, I was happy, warm and fuzzy, satisfied with the culmination of the series. Yes, there were a few problems. One was editing. Not as clean as I remember the first two, there were missing and misused words in several parts. There wasn't a lot of clarity about why Matt and Kira couldn't do more for Ruby and Claude than they did. Then, Yumi and Sal taking Claude would not have been as simple as it was shown to be. There would have been a lot of legal issues involved. There were just several loose ends left and some things kind of glossed over or oversimplified.

BUT, it definitely lived up to the title. Matt and Kira did have a new start in repairing and developing their relationship. There were many scenes with the therapist and realistic reactions from Matt. I thought the transition from Matt's to Kira's POV was rather abrupt. His "voice" was not as distinct as I would have hoped. However, the overall theme was sweet and hopeful and it was a lovely ending to a long, thrilling, emotional journey.

What a bittersweet ending to Kira's and Matt's story. Point of No Return was so beautiful and magical for me. Breaking Point had my heart in shambles for Kira. And this story, like I sad, a bittersweet ending to the first MM romance story series I fell completely in love with. What I truly appreciate about this author is her willingness to include several different ethnicities when creating her characters. That alone makes her remarkable and her fantastic writing, the world of love, loss, heart-ache, and family only enhances her creative ability! Fabulous series!

So sad! I loved all three books! There were so many ups and downs and twists and turns and now it feels like I'm losing something! *pouts* Ima have to have a talk with Walker about letting me fall in love with a series and then just ending them! With practically no warning! Or maybe a bit... Anyways. Doesn't she know she's supposed to write the characters I love FOREVER? Yes, I think a long talk is in order.
Had a blast reading this series. Very sad, obviously, to see it end but looking forward to the next book! Highly recommend!

This is the 3rd book of the trilogy about Matt and Kira. I was VERY intrigued by the depth N.R. went with this story. It was absolutely interesting to see how the characters evolved over time and how deep there relationship went and had to be to survived what was thrown in front of them. Horrible scenarios believable portrayed and solved with grace. THAT is what I call a good, tense, page-turning read, a must have!

N.R. Walker does it again. This author is so gifted. Every character that she creates becomes a part of you. This series is no exception. I feel as though I know Kira and Matthew, that I am part of their family too. The author never goes for the easy answer, the quick solution. Her stories never tie up neatly in a bow, and so the happy ending she provides feels real and urgent. You feel the characters have really fought for, and earned, their HEA, and for that you feel the completion in the book in your soul. Even as you wish that it would never end.

Ladies (because you are the majority readership in this genre) I just want to say, not all gay men (and I include myself here) want to marry, want children or want to be 28/30ish with fit bodies and big penises...(again), (well maybe the big penis would be nice).
I lurved this final story in the series. I hadn't even realised until two weeks ago that there was a third novel published.
So...the protagonists tie the proverbial, they adopt, they are obviously gorgeous, happy people and I loved it.
I loved the writing, I loved the plot, this is gearing up to the HEA after all. Book two is so emotional it hurts, but this final novel in the series hankers after the HEA, and I for one, thanked the higher being (whoever and whatever that is) that the HEA was delivered (because...quite frankly, after Book 2...I could not have survived another emotionally/thriller plot).
This story is emotional, domestic family orientated...and although I am not the marrying/children type personally.....I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved it - fantastic wrap up to the series
Reviewed in Australia on April 27, 2020

What a fantastic wrap up for this series! It has been an emotional series, with a lot of pain, heartache but also hope and love. This book sees Matt moving forward and slowly recovering from his ordeals. It shows how perfect he and Kira are together, and how amazing their chosen family is. It also highlighted how caring and giving Matt is. I loved that the final chapter is from Kira's POV, so we see Matt through his eyes, and see the love between these two from the other side.

Once again we have a beautifully written story that captures you, and pulls you in - another book that I couldn't put down once I started. This one involves children who need someone in their court - some are homeless, some from bad neighbourhoods in need of a break - which elicits a whole other range of emotional, especially when Matt and Kira get involved.

The epilogue is set 6yrs down the track, and showcased Matt and Kira's HEA, which I especially loved given it showed Matt finding his place in the world and Kira's place by his side.

Definitely a book and series I would recommend.
