Do you believe in fate? Soulmates? Someone can be in the same place, yet they won’t meet until it’s time. You can meet someone somewhere else and find out that they lived near you and had some kind of connection without knowing.
I fell in love with Clua with Elle Wylee’s first book in the White Sands series, “Safe in Clua”. You can see glimpses of Laia and Felix in “Staying in Clua”. I’m glad that they are happy after everything that they went through.
Stanza and Sonnie both don’t want attachments or commitments. Just a distraction from life and fun. Their past has made them believe they aren’t capable of anything more. As they spend more time together, they can break down each other’s walls. They learned that there is more than what’s on the surface. They have their reasons for being in Clua. A place where people escape and find themselves. They can’t stay in Clua forever. Eventually, they have to return to their lives.
Sonnie and Stanza are complicated and have a lot of baggage. It’s what makes them relatable. I could see a piece of myself in the characters as I was reading and understand their choices for what they’re going through, even if it frustrates me at times.
I know that “Staying in Clua” is a novella, and you can only fit so much in so little time. But I hate when there’s a conflict in the last few chapters. Even when I know it’ll be a happy ending, it frustrates me. Everything is going so well for the characters, and then BAM! There’s trouble. I understand that no one wants to read something without conflict, but does it have to be one of the last chapters? You know it’s ending soon, so it’s sad that something happens, and there has to be a solution quickly to wrap everything up.
Besides that, I enjoyed “Staying in Clua” overall. I cannot wait to return to Clua with the next book in the White Sands series.
