Stokesby Grave: A chilling Norfolk Broads crime thriller (DI Tanner Norfolk Broads Murder Mystery Series Book 12) Kindle Edition
A murdered policewoman, a convicted thief, and a priceless painting, lost forever, or left hiding in plain sight.
On the day an infamous thief and callous murderer is due to be released, DCI Tanner is given the task of overseeing the operation. But when the prisoner is abducted at gunpoint, only to be found tortured to death the very next day, Tanner finds himself asking why, especially when two men arrive from the National Gallery, demanding to know where the priceless painting was, the same one the dead man had taken some thirty years before.
Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a dark cozy Norfolk murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance, one that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.
Stokesby Grave is a totally addictive gripping crime thriller, the twelth in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of L J Ross, Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Damien Boyd, J M Dalgliesh, and Elly Griffiths into David Blake devotees.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2025I knew who the culprits were from the first couple of chapters! But, had I known how everything was to pan out, I would have to be clairvoyant, which I am definitely not. Thoroughly kept my interest, and I am so invested with all the characters that I can't wait to start the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2025I don't mind a little slight of had comedy, but I wasn't sure sometimes if they were being sarcastic or what. Did Tanner really have to be told to attend the funeral by his boss. It made it sound like he wasn't quite on the job
I've read better in this series of books.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024Fun read, plot twists that keep you guessing, and a very unexpected ending. I’ll have to read more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2025I've enjoyed the Tanner series, but this one has a really poor unbelievable plot, police chasing their tails, protagonist keeps getting injured from bad choices and pages of silly banter with his long-suffering wife and his co-worker. The final straw was a rolled up canvas painting. JMW Turner was an 18th century British watercolorist. Watercolors are painted on paper (not canvas) which would have been destroyed by being rolled up and buried for 30 years. Maybe do a quick bit of research would have avoided such a mistake with the mcguffin of the plot.
It just seemed like the author was struggling against a deadline or something.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2025I read a lot of these DCI books and this is yet again another good one. Twists and turns and humor. Good read,
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2024This book had a good storyline but it seemed a bit stretched. I hate to give a mediocre review, but I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous books. I do have a puppy and am not sleeping much so that may be why the story seemed a little circuitous. All in all, the book is well written and it was good to catch up with the characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2024There’s a lot of comedic chatter, sometimes distracting but at least it’s male stuff. In the early books he has conversations among women that no female would have.
Good mystery here, plenty of red herrings and distractions. Not sure why a DCE would be out in the field as much as this and I’m sure a week old baby wouldn’t be quite as advanced as Samantha. But again another entertaining outing!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2024This was a different take on Tanner than seen in the other books. He is an instinctive detective and that leads him into some wild situations. Good to be along for the ride.
