Into the Storm: Into the Storm Trilogy Book One Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 ratings

A spell to weave. A life to save.
A heart to break. A storm to brave.

When Rhiannon’s mother dies, her whole world falls apart, and she withdraws from her family, her friends and her life. As grief and anger rage within her, she connects with the wildness of the winter storms – until she’s consumed by the powers they unleash. A priestess tries to help her, a woman from the mists seeks to comfort her and her little brother attempts to reach her, but she doesn’t know how to find her way back.
Entwined throughout is the story of her mother, which reveals a haunting mystery. Why did her parents keep such a dark secret? How will a spell she casts in the woods one full moon night unravel her? Who is the woman in red she encounters atop the sacred hill? And what chaos will be wrought by a girl from the other side of the world with a strange link to her father?
As the darkness of her shadow self is revealed, Rhiannon must find the courage to go into the storm and face her greatest fears. But if she does, will she be transformed by its terrible power, or broken and lost in the wreckage?

Review

"Into the Storm takes you on such an emotional journey, and makes you believe in real magic. I loved it."
Selina Fenech, author of Memory's Wake

"Into the Mists is healing, empowering, inspiring and magical. I loved every single page. I haven't enjoyed a book this much since I read Heart's Blood by Juliet Marillier. Can't wait for a sequel!"
Julia Burdock, blogger

"Into the Dark is darker than the first book, but it also portrays the sweetness of love, and the power of the magical. This is a compelling novel, which haunted my dreams while I was reading it, and lingered in my mind long after I'd finished it."
Felicity Pulman, author of the Janna Chronicles

"Into the Light is a wonderful story and a stunning conclusion. I'm absolutely blown away by this series. It is truly beautiful from start to finish - magical, realistic, gentle, harsh, sad and joyful... I feel totally bereft that these people will no longer be a part of my life."
Kylie Matthews, book reviewer

"Into the Mists: A Journal is divine! The lovely quotes throughout are very inspiring, and the feel of the journal is heart-warming and comforting to me. It sits on my bedside table for writing in during the quiet times of reflection. It's just beautiful."
Cheralyn Darcey, eco-artist and author of Flowerpaedia

"The Into the Mists Trilogy: Audiobooks will sweep you away with the melodic voice and magical story. My favourite parts were when Carlie was reading her mother's journal - it was written beautifully, captivating both the character and the reader, a feat not easy to achieve. I cannot wait to jump into book three."
Rebecca Bosevski, author of Enchanting the Fey

Sorrowful, yet Empowering, Slice of Witchy Life suitable for a wide audience
Into the Storm begins the Into the Air trilogy, which tells Rhiannon's story from the Into the Mists trilogy. Rhiannon's tale begins before she meets Carlie, so for those who read the initial trilogy, there's a sense of foreboding from the start because you know certain things are going to happen, but not necessarily when. Reading the Into the Mists trilogy first will fill in parts where the two stories overlap and will offer a more well-rounded and in-depth experience. The exploration of life's transformation after the death of a loved one illustrates the true magic that exists in reality: the determination of those left behind, personal growth, camaraderie, the love and strength of community, and the sheer magic of empowerment and revelation. The genre may be YA Fantasy/Magical Realism, but this is a story of life after death and finding one's way when the dark swallows the light and storms march overhead until all seems lost. The themes greatly appeal to a wider audience and can be uplifting for readers who have experienced loss, be it literal death or the metaphorical death that comes alongside life events such as chronic or serious illness. Serene is truly gifted at peeking into the dark veils of life and illuminating the rippling effects of grief and of finding the strength to stand when the ground has fallen away. She is so empathically linked to her characters and their lives that the reader is drawn in and can't help but feel the emotion. I personally connected more with Carlie in the original trilogy, but Rhi has plenty of insight to offer. Her internal nagging voice of doubt is powerful and illustrates that how we talk to ourselves can be just as abusive as external bullying. This is a sorrowful, yet empowering and realistic slice of witchy life story. Highly recommended. P.S. Rhiannon's story is interspersed with her mother's experiences, which offer further character development and the trials of life fit for the New Adult genre. <3
