Protégé King (Wall Street Empire: Strictly Business Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,244 ratings

Damion West was the boy who stole my young heart and then broke it. That was a long time ago though and I’m not a girl susceptible to hot boys with big egos who just happen to kiss well anymore. Nor have I kept up with Damion West. Okay, I have. Everyone has. He's the heir to West Enterprises, and notoriously loud on social media.

Everyone knows Damion West.
Just not like I do.
But that's another story better left untold.

It’s hard sometimes to remember that I’m no slouch myself. Confidence isn't exactly my forte but I fake it well. I’ve worked with my parents’ real estate firm catering to the rich and famous for years and I'm now one of the top agents in the country. Blue Enterprises is the name of our firm, which is also my name. Blue. Alana Blue. And now I'm on TV, the star of Selling in New York.

But every family has secrets. Damion's does and mine does as well.
That's why I have the TV show I didn't really want.
Nothing is real.
Except him. Damion. He's real. So is my past with him. But it's the past.

Then one day I get called to a meeting by the studio head, it's all very secretive.
Because it's not the studio at all, or actually, it is. Because his family owns everything.

That's right.
The meeting is with him. It's with Damion West.
And Lord help me, he's now sexier, and more arrogant than ever.

Also it turns out that what Damion wants from me isn't as simple as a real estate contract.
But it's a contract all right.

Childhood friends x second chance
4 out of 5 stars
Childhood friends x second chance
☆ 3.5/5 & 1.5/5 spice A very easy and fast pace read that follows Damion and Alana. Both are childhood friends and neighbors, but later on, they have a falling out. Alana has feelings for Damion at a very young age, but after being disappointed time after time, she struggles with their friendship/relationship. Every encounter and interaction between the two is filled with so much sexual heated tension and angst — from being friends to lovers to enemies to lovers. Fast forward, a couple years later, Damion and Alana reunite once again, but this time, Damion is asking Alana to pretend to be his fiancée as a favor for what he did for her back then. Will Alana give in and agree to be his fiancée or walk away? 🤭 I was just a bit frustrated with the miscommunication and at times wished that Alana would make Damion groveled a while longer instead of giving into his word so easily. Overall, this was a fast pace read filled with drama, angst, and a cliffhanger. If you enjoy workplace romance, childhood friendships, and second chances, check this book out! Tropes: ❥ Childhood friends ❥ Billionaire romance ❥ Friends to lovers to enemies to lovers ❥ Workplace romance ❥ Second chances

This trilling story kept me glued to the drama surrounding Damien, Alan and their parents. It is like watching their lives through a chess game where everyone has a game piece, and their lives are executed accordingly. Damien and his father are the ones manipulating the pieces of the others' lives. Who will win this game in the end.

I've read a lot of books written by Lisa Renee Jones; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the first book in the Wall Street Empire: Strictly Business Series; it is the beginning of a new series. The story continues in the next book and needs to be read in order.

Lisa Renee Jones is the queen of corporate espionage and high stakes relationships. She makes office steam really spicy. She always delivers manipulative fathers and though the MMCs are a touch morally gray, they fight to succeed against their corrupt fathers and get the love of their lives. Each time she tackles this type of story, LRJ adds wonderful plot twists to make each book series unique. And with the combination of enemies to lovers and second chance romances, the steam in these stories is always piping hot. I can never get enough of these books and keep gladly coming back for more.

Damion and Alana fell in love as children after playing together thick as thieves. Despite years, hurt, and distance their feelings never really diminished, but Damion has hurt Alana time and again. Both their families have secrets that both tie them together and keep them apart. As time passed, both Damion and Alana fought to become extremely successful in their businesses. But ten years later, Damion has decided to make his move and Alana is the key to everything.

I really loved the dynamic between Alana and Damion. There is so much chemistry, but it’s wrapped in mistrust and anger over the past. They keep coming together in the bedroom, and that tinge of hurt makes things even steamier. Damion is ruthless in his pursuit to take his father down and also claim the future with the woman he always knew was his, but he keeps so much from Alana. I can’t wait to see where this story ends and hope the release of Scorned Queen is sooner rather than later.

It was a slightly thrilling read. Slightly. A good plot laid out with a fair amount of story-to-smut ratio but I will say that it feels like it was drawn out too much for this sort of story. I get it that it's meant to be a trio of books (as I looked it up on Amazon as a way of figuring out just how many there were so far to follow) but it feels like it's being pushed out when really, one book with all three in it wouldn't have been that bad. Just one person's opinion.

You can tell the MMC is morally grey, easily adept at pushing boundaries and tugging "his woman" into a realm the likes of which she is not accustomed to and it's not a surprise that our FMC finds herself in over her head, no matter how well she believes she knew him before.

This is not how I imagined this story would be. I love the growth of Damion and Alana through the ten years since they have seen or talked to each other. Damion was sent to Europe by his father so that he can learn the business and to get him out of his father's way as the King of Wall Street. Alana is left feeling used by her best friend and unrequited love interest. Damion tried to help by paying her father's gambling debt but because her mother told her father what happened it just enabled her father to continue to gamble when he felt he could. Then we learn about what happened between Damion's father used Alana's mother. At times this story got a little confusing to me because of the twists and turns but as always the plot came together and Lisa Renee Jones left me wanting more of Alana and Damion's story. I'm excited about the next couple of books 📚📖 in this series. Good reading and I highly recommend this book 📚📖 and this series.

I have a hard time getting into series. In fact I tend to not read them and prefer standalone stories with connecting characters. That being said I did enjoy this book. The betrayal, unrequited love and family drama all made for an interesting read. I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes.

It's not hard getting caught up in a Lisa Renee Jones' book. The level her writing talent reaches is exceptional. Her characters are memorable, intelligent, successful and driven. And the stories? There's angst, drama, suspense, intense emotions and intrigue. In the case of Protégé King family dynamics play a big role and are at the root of the ebb and flow in Alana Blue and Damion West's twenty-one year relationship. Both have been at the mercy of parental pressures and expectations for all of their lives. As far as Damion and Alana themselves? Let's just say that when they're in close proximity of one another the heat and electricity that arcs between them could set the room on fire. Despite all their many disagreements, misunderstandings and miscommunications it's working together that may finally enable them to be free of entanglements and become the couple they've always been meant to be. Just a quick note, this book is part of a duet so you'll have to patiently wait to find out how this all plays out.

A good story although there were some editing issues.which surprised me as I’ve read other LRJ books & didn’t have this problem. It left me wanting more & was gutted (but in a good way) with the way it ended. I was not expecting a cliffhanger!!

    This was an amazing story.
Alana and Damion have known each other for years.
When they finally catch up to one another at College.
Alana wants to resist him but can’t, Damion wants her but he is trying to take down his father and doesn’t want Alana in the firing line.
Can’t wait to what happens in the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Angsty times and complicated feelings...
Reviewed in India on August 16, 2024
This story is about Alana and Damion and their complicated friendship and love starting right from their childhood where they are neighbours and besties.

Told in a past and present Pov style which kept things interesting and kept me guessing as to what has happened for these two best friends to have the distance and enmity between them that they have now.

Alana is a star of a big tv show now but this has come after lots of sacrifices and many more troubles, some of them she's still trying her best to get rid of.

When she receives a mysterious offer and goes to meet the mystery person behind it, she's shocked to find the man is none other than Damion, the one unforgettable wound of her past.

We are taken into their childhood and their college times and how changing times and complicated feelings and other things kept these two separated and leading them to having different paths in life.

Ahhh... There's lots of angst in this one and had me frustrated at times trying to figure out the real deal between them especially Damion.

There's also a lot of family drama here with troublesome parents and bitter truths.
We come across devastating secrets and unseen traps set unaware that also widen the gap between Alana and Damion but there's also the fact that these two were just driving me crazy in not wanting to acknowledge what's clear and in their face.

The stakes are high now as Damion is about to take on a huge challenge of dethroning their enemy and take his revenge but there's also unknown territory with Alana and what will happen next.

That ending had me a bit scared because their plan had been tossed and Damion seems to think that it will on the contrast not ruin but help them. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds. Diving straight into Scorned queen, book 2. ❤️❤️❤️

    Well well... that was.... crazy!

In a world of take all, mergers, acquisitions love isn’t a thing, it’s another thing in the way of success. But for Damion and Alana, life as children was so much better. They grew up together as best friends, now he’s the protege king of his fathers company and Alana has her own successful tv show. The pair have a complicated yet sexy relationship, she’s loved him forever, he’s constantly destroying her...

Now they come together in a blaze of glory, but that comes with consequences. Their past may help the future but the now is what could make or break everything. I’m curious to see how this ends for Alana and Damion.
