    I jumped into this book for an online book club experience. I am SOOOO glad I read it! I typically do not read police story lines, but LK Shaw has hooked me. I am going back to purchase the first book and can't wait for Atonement to be released.

    A family of police officers working against the underbelly of Chicago, doing their best to stay alive, keep their connections close and help the good prevail. I loved how close the family was (even in their disagreements), I loved how they kept good friends close and did their best to keep them safe. The underlying love story had hot moments and swoon worthy feelings! I have spent time in Chicago and could picture the locations as LK wrote about them. You know the author is a great one if they truly can transport you into the world they are writing about. LK does just that with her spell-bounding writing. I highly recommend this series to all that are looking for a mystery, love, and family connections.

    I really liked the growing relationship between Estelle and Victor. At the beginning of the story I didn't care for Estelle too much, thinking she was a bit cold. But then when I found out her background, her behavior made sense. The way Estelle and Victor's relationship grew seemed natural and not rushed despite the fact that not a lot of time had elapsed.

    While the writing was good, a better proofreading job would have made it better. The mistakes weren't horrible, but there were enough of them to bug me a bit. For instance, the word "gentleman" was constantly used rather than its plural form, "gentlemen." In addition, the author seldom used a comma for names in direct address. There were other mistakes, but these were the ones that stood out.

    One other weakness was the rescue scene. I would think that a drug lord who's been in power for so long would have devised a better plan.

    Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read.

    I did not read the first book in the series, but this book was free and the description sounded good.
    The storyline and chemistry were good, the only thing that bothered me were mistakes of what they were wearing in one scene and then had changed in the next. There were a few other things that hadn’t been caught by the editor and so I have to take away one star. The other thing was Estelles parents and the issues made for a side story that in the end didn’t really have anything to do with her decision IMO. It just added extra drama.

    I might check out other books in this series.

    This was the first book for me. But despite not reading the first book you got enough background to know what the gist was and without droning on if you did read the previous book. Loved victor and Estelle. They were adorable together. Her parents are horrible people and I’m glad we’re finally out in their place. But boy was there some craziness. Former cartel leaders and dirty cops and budding romances to name a few.

    I love anything by L K Shaw. She is a great writer. She spins many different tails from mafia to police and others as well. Victor showed Estelle what love was. Her parents were horrible. Even though she pushed him away initially he showed her what true love and loyalty are. The story with the drug cartel kept you engaged with their relationship. Good book, recommend reading it.
