- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2025This is the second book in the series, Aidan's point of view. I really enjoyed reading this book, I got a clear picture of Aidan's side of the story, his personality, and his secrets. I love how the author has a way with words. Can't wait to read the third book. Wonderful author.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2018The second of the Hunters Trilogy takes the basic plot of book one and tells the story from Aidan's point of view. Despite knowing the ultimate outcome of the story from Jane's point of view, this doesn't serve as a spoiler! Rather, it increases my interest to see how the story follows, or sometimes adds dramatic twists and knowledge, to the plot "I thought I knew". Reading the "same" story a second time from a fresh viewpoint is very compelling; Ms. Bernhardt walks the fine line of retelling while holding the reader's interest very well. Even apparent discrepancies between the two books have to be rethought in terms of how the "facts" are understood, interpreted, or believed to be important by the characters or the reader.
One thing this retelling technique has me doing is thinking about my own life, my own reality, my own "story". I've more or less thought of it as a single "truth" - it happened THIS way - until now. But now I'm prompted to think about "how does my story appear to someone else?" And vice versa, when I observe or am part of another person's life, I'm getting this version in bits and pieces from my interactions with them and through my second hand interactions with others, but there is of course a lot more going on that I'm not privy to. So the style of the two stories, Summers' Shadow and Summers' Deceit, sparked some interesting thoughts way beyond the scope of the books themselves...
Definitely read them both - in either order!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2023Aiden is definitely not all sunshine and roses. Wow. Sometimes he feels like he's so all over the place. One minute this way, the next another. I liked seeing his side of the 'story'. Intriguing.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful read.
This is the second book of this trilogy and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. It tells the story of the first novel, “Summers’ Deceit” from the perspective of the main male character whereas the first novel is from the main female character’s perspective, and yet, although the basic story line as in events is consistent, it is still a completely different story in its own right. It’s very cleverly done. I will certainly be buying the third and final book in this trilogy. If you haven’t read Sara J. Bernhardt’s books yet, I would highly recommend that you do. She is a wonderful poet too.
