Surprise, Baby! Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 973 ratings

There’s a fine line between lust and hate. I don’t care that Drew Merritt spent the last year transforming himself from grungy slob to sexy playboy. With messy, dirty blond hair and gorgeous eyes, his looks aren’t the problem. His mouth is. And the stupid things that come out of it. But after an emergency strands us together, and he does his damnedest to take care of me… Let’s just say there’s one thing we don’t clash on. And it doesn’t involve talking. I’ve despised Drew since I met him years ago. One weekend can’t change us that much, can it? Spoiler alert: It doesn’t. Except he left me a little keepsake. And in nine months, I’ll have a surprise for Portland’s most notorious player.

Entertaining and oh-so-incredibly sexy...

Entertaining and oh-so-incredibly sexy...
Kendall Greer can't stand Portland's resident party boy, Drew Merritt. But, when seeing their mutual friends means spending time with each other, she is prepared to take one for the team in order to have an enjoyable weekend together. Until their circumstances change and Kendall starts seeing Drew in a whole new, entirely irresistible light. And then, the surprise neither one of them saw coming is about to completely change the rest of their lives... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Surprise, Baby! was an entertaining and oh-so-incredibly sexy read that is just what the OBGYN ordered! Kendall and Drew might rub each other the wrong way... but when a fateful weekend getaway changes their perceptions, and both of their futures in one big swoop, will the news of their baby-on-board devastate their newfound truce or will the former adversaries find a love worth changing for... Kendall has poured everything she has into her new PR business. While she is painfully aware of how men like Drew operate, she has no desire to get to know him beneath his playboy exterior. But, in their short, but intense time together, she begins to see the man behind the partying, and he quickly goes from untouchable to irresistible. Drew has had a recent transformation in not only his body, but also with taking care of his health and leaving behind his party boy ways. Being able to show Kendall how much of a changed man he is ends up just being a bonus to a fabulous weekend. Until per usual, he does something to mess everything up and his connection with Kendall goes from sizzling to avoidance at it's finest. Desperate to see her again... the last thing he is expecting is the news she has to share with him... This was such a fun read! Kendall was a successful and hard working woman who was strong in the face of how her life choices are about to change the future she has envisioned for herself. Drew was such an unexpectedly sweet and conscientious man, who may not have always made the correct choices in his past, but is now making up for them tenfold. The plot was incredibly engaging and well done, and the characters were likable and realistic. But my favorite parts were the beginning animosity between Kendall and Drew, and of course the down and dirty sex that kept their simmering attraction heating up the pages... and their relationship. I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

"What happens on Mount Hood, stays on Mount Hood."

Or not… In the Case of Surprise, Baby by bestselling authors Leslie MacAdam and Lex Martin. Surprise, Baby is a standalone contemporary romance that follows characters who first appear in All About the D. This is the perfect romance if you’re looking for a funny, sweet, seXXXy, and heartwarming book to cuddle up with. This story sucked me in so fast. I love both authors and it was so easy to jump on the blogger review team for Leslie and Lex. If you’ve never read either author, this is an excellent way to discover two authors as their collaborations are SPECTACULAR! You do not have to read All About the D to enjoy Surprise, Baby but I am one of those people that prefers to read my series books in order and that’s what I always recommend. Besides, I guarantee you that if you read one, you’ll be jumping all over the chance to read the second book, so just save yourself time now and start binge reading 😉.

There are so many reasons that I loved Surprise, Baby. It’s a well written, entertaining romance that truly left me with warm fuzzies and a deep sigh of contentment when I finished reading. While I am not necessarily a huge fan of the surprise baby trope, there is no way I was passing up the chance to see what Leslie and Lex had in story for Drew and Kendall after their notoriously contentious relationship in All About the D. These two are ‘like Vaseline and sandpaper’ but it’s absolutely delicious reading their interactions because it’s straight up foreplay… And you know exactly what I am talking about! Each interaction between this pair amps up the heat until they’re simply a powder keg ready to blow. And when they get stuck in that snowpocalyse on Mount Hood?! It blows marvelously!!! The banter between Drew and Kendall is witty, driven by the pairs denial that they could possibly dip their toes into the well of attraction for the other! The book also falls into the enemies-to-lovers trope and that’s the real hook for me. I am a total Enemies-to-Lovers junkie. Surprise, Baby had me up late because I couldn’t put it down as I found it deliciously sexy and extremely entertaining. The pace is fast and consistent, you won’t find that it’s too slow or you loose interest. It’s also a dual POV romance so the characters are easy to connect to. And the plot is straight up fun!

Surprise, Baby is just one of those books that you can not miss! Grab your copy today and get to reading 😊

    QUOTES:
When will I ever learn that this guy is literally the last man on the planet I’ll ever be friends with? Because Drew Merritt is a PR nightmare.
    --
I have no idea why Evie insists Kendall was so much fun growing up. That Debbie Downer’s got a stick so high up her a$$, it’s lodged in her brain.
    --
“Let me put it this way.” I tap on the table, rattling the mug in front of me. “It would have to be a cold day in he11 for me to consider going out with Drew Merritt.”
    --
“We both know my track record is abysmal. The longest intimate relationship I’ve ever had is with my hand. Left one, mostly. I’m way out of my league with you, and I have no idea what I’m getting myself into. I’ve never had a FWF. But if I mess this up tonight, I’ll never forgive myself.”
    --
Right now, in this moment, I want to focus on the guy I’ve come to know on this trip. The one who worships my body. The one who indeed treats me like a princess. Not Portland’s most eligible bachelor.
    --
I want to believe this was all a big mistake. That Drew didn’t steal a three-thousand-dollar bottle of wine from the cabin’s cellar for sh;ts and giggles and pretend he bought it for me. Because if that’s a lie, what other lines did he feed me? I don’t know how you fake what we shared, but if it was all a façade, he’s downright maniacal.
    --
After the intensity of everything that happened today and the weeks we’ve spent apart, I expect him to ravish me. To ... me so hard, I can’t walk straight tomorrow. But the minute our bare bodies are completely pressed together—chest to chest, belly to belly, thigh to thigh— he pauses to kiss me so slowly, every part of me aches from the most luscious sort of pain. Because I feel cherished.

Having read All About the D, the book that features the love story of Drew’s best friend, I wasn’t sure how the authors were going to make me love Drew enough to want to read his own book. I’ll be honest - there’s a lot about Drew in that book that is not great, but the reader also sees glimpses of the guy underneath all of the mess. So I tentatively downloaded the sample of this book and read the first few chapters. The story pulled me in, and it became clear almost immediately that this isn’t the same Drew from that book; he truly is Drew 2.0 after having a major wakeup call. And I kind of loved the character (especially the way the authors wrote his chapters - his point of view is hysterical).

This is a pretty steamy book - All About the D is sexual in it’s own way, but this is much more overtly sexual. To an extent it has to be because of the storyline, but it got a little over the top at times. Much of the “action,” so to speak, is towards the beginning of the book though, so it’s not non-stop sex the whole time. The reader really does get a good understanding of the characters, and the relationship has depth. I was definitely glad I took a chance on this book and got to see Drew redeem himself and get his own happy ending.

I really thought this book was, well, boring. From one sex scene to the other, obvious misunderstandings, boring dialogues. I thought it will a be a fun light read, but it lacked interest for me.

I have over 3,500 digital books with 500 unread, and was drawn to read the sample of this story. As soon as I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. Both of these authors are new to me and I am always so pleased when I find new authors to follow! I am a picky reader and expect a lot and these two came through on all counts.

This is an enemy to lovers situation, but it was actually fun to read as they were both really witty and had respect towards one another. Basically, Drew, the hero, of the story had some growing up to do. He was all heart, with lots of muscle, and I really admired how honest he was with Kendall, our leading lady. Although he came from a wealthy family, he started and ran his own business and was a great friend and grandson. He was vulnerable and sweet, thoughtful, smart, and oh so sexy!

He and Kendall both shared a mutual attraction towards one another and their weekend stuck in a cabin in a snowstorm they give into their passion and she realizes there is more to him that she previously thought. I admire her strong work ethic and smart business sense, and also the fact that she is guarding her heart in this unknown territory. I love her relationship with her parents and how she helps Drew grow closer to his parents, knowing how their behavior affects him and their family.

As the title of the book reveals, she does get pregnant, and Drew couldn’t be more supportive, attentive, or loving. I know some people like books where the man is a jerk, but that’s not me! I try to imagine them as my book boyfriend and Drew is definitely a keeper! There are times when they don’t communicate when they should, but the book would be over half-way if there wasn’t some angst.

I love a good redemption story especially when forgiveness is involved. I like it when people can admit they are wrong, learn from their mistakes, and do what it takes to make it better because that is real life.

The big perk of this book is the bonus epilogue of their wedding which you have to download (for free) when finished. This book does have a HEA which is required reading in a romance, but the bonus chapter makes it that much more special.

I‘m not a fan of the surprise baby storyline. However, I am a huge fan of Lex‘s writing and loved All About The D, and really enjoyed Kendall in that story. Drew, well, he was Drew 1.0.
I went into this thinking that I may not like the overall plot, but that I‘d probably, hopefully love what Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam made out of it.
And that’s exactly what I got out of it. Lex and Leslie are hilarious, creatively dirty and a pretty damn awesome combination. I really enjoyed everything that wasn’t part of the typical surprise baby trope, wasn’t too annoyed by these bits and am really excited to see what this duo will bring next.

I was throughly entertained by Surprise, Baby! I turned pages quickly as I was swept up by Drew and Kendall's story. It warmed my heart, brought a smile to my face and steamed up my kindle, in just the right amount.

I read this book without reading the previous book in the series and felt this had no impact on my reading experience.

I fell hard quickly for Drew and thought he was such a sweetie, I was team Drew all the way and my heart hurt when I saw the miscommunications and incorrect assumptions being made.
It's frustrating to watch it play out, knowing both sides of the story and thinking if only they knew the truth of what the other was feeling. But true to life, we never really know what another person is feeling or thinking. If we don't talk, our minds can run away with our assumptions or misunderstood signals, which can create drama that really isn't there. A great lesson for all of us to be open, honest and to communicate.

This is the best accidental pregnancy book I’ve read in a long long time. It’s witty, well paced with excellent and well written characters and a modern, easy to relate to narrative.
The sexy elements are beautifully balanced with relatable, real world problems, great characters that are fleshed out well and each chapter is loaded with excellent wit. Drew is an incredible Hero and will be a favourite for a long time!
