Surrender (Seaside Pictures Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 560 ratings

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes the next standalone rockstar romance in her Seaside Pictures series…

I had his posters on my wall when I was sixteen and when I accidentally got pregnant in high school—his was the face I dreamt of when I closed my eyes at night.
Now, over twenty years later, that dream's turned into a reality.
Not only is Drew Amhurst in my tiny town of Seaside, live and in the flesh…
But he's mentoring my rockstar son.
Drew says he's mine for a week.
And he made me three promises.

"No strings attached."
"No falling in love."
"It's only seven days."

He's confident that he can help me rediscover myself both in and out of the bedroom, and I'm confident that he's too arrogant for his own good.
And at the end of seven days, he swears he'll walk out of my life the way he came into it.

The only problem is, the more I get to know him, the more I want to surrender the last pieces of my heart and beg him to stay.

Funny and so Relatable
Ok about this book. I’m going to be brutally honest. Y’all know I love love love dark books. The darker the better. This book was def out of my comfort zone. I honestly thought I wasn’t going to like it. Not because of Rach, I love her writing and am obsessed with Ruthless Princess, but because I just love dark and twisted. This book surprised me for sure. It was tasteful and so sweet but not over the top to the point that you want to barf (did I say I’m twisted ? Lol) but it had its awe moments and def comedy. I laughed so much. Obsessed with Drew. Uh he’s so funny and charming and broken and I fell for him. Bronte reminded me of me so much. She was all mom mode 24/7 and conservative. But next to Drew, ah they gave me the butterflies. .As a mom , I felt for Bronte. The moments when her daughter would “interrupt” lmao i literally wanted to throw my phone! Like COME ON GIVE HER A BREAK! Anyways I loved this book. It was extremely different for me but I liked it. Def recommend it to everyone, even my twisted sisters! Too much dark can be draining lol!

Surrender absolutely FLEW BY! It has the kind of 5-star banter that makes you forget things like instalove and settle into the story. You won’t have any trouble reading this in one sitting (I devoured it very quickly), and those who haven’t read the rest of the Seaside Pictures series won’t have any problem reading this as a standalone, though there are appearances from past heroes. I will openly admit that you’re going to need to be openminded about the timeline on this one – if I sit and think about how quickly everything happened, I might second-guess my rating, but it really just worked for the story. Our hero has an addictive personality, so once he’s in, he is ALL IN. I loved all of the quick-witted dialogue, the playfulness, and the outrageous yet vulnerable personality of the hero. If you’re looking for a quick, smile-inducing read and are open to instalove, then this is definitely worth your time.

The story follows Drew, an aging rockstar who has battled his demons and now wants what all of his friends have – someone who loves him despite his troubled past. Drew’s had a crush on his protégé’s mom for awhile now (she’s 39 to his 36), but hasn’t pursued Bronte because he knows it would lead to trouble. She’s never been anything but good; a mom from a young age whose kids no longer need her around as often. When Drew suggests that he spend one week with Bronte to help her get her groove back and discover what it means to be bad, neither has any idea what they’re in store for.

This storyline definitely did not follow the path that I expected it to, and I’m 100% okay with that. Drew’s got a very strong personality (you’re either going to love him or hate him), and once he’s got his mind set on something, there’s no stopping him. Honestly, the relationship goes from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye, but the connection is obvious. Drew is shameless, infuriating, and sometimes outlandish but I loved all of that. He sees the potential for a family and grabs onto it with both hands. And for a book that moves at such a rapid pace, it really is a slow burn. It’s funny and light with some heartfelt moments and an underlying level of angst that’s only touched upon. Please keep in mind that Drew has struggled with the rockstar lifestyle in the past, including drug addiction, but that the topic is only touched upon in small moments. With such an accelerated timeline, this doesn’t have the depth that you’d get from some of Van Dyken’s other books, but it reads very quickly and will definitely make you smile. I feel like I probably SHOULD rate this as 4 stars because of the level of instalove, but… I enjoyed it way too much for that. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC via Valentine PR (then purchased it for my collection), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this rockstar romance.

Rachel has crafted a beautifully written and emotional Rockstar Romance. Her words will leave you with a warmth in your heart and a smile on your face. This book is a perfect Rom Com that will have you laughing out loud and then swooning all over the place in the next instant.

𝙄 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩. 𝙄 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣, 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙄 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙚𝙧.

This book took me by complete surprise in the best way, I was not prepared for how hilarious The Drew Amhurst was going to be. He was legit the best thing. He had my laughing so loudly that those around me looked at me like I was a lunatic. But there was nothing I could do, Drew was just that good, he left me with a perpetual smile, and a lightness to my soul. I loved his relationship with not only Bronte but her children as well. This brought another layer to this story, watching as his relationship grew and how his easy-going behavior helped in some very difficult situations will have you falling head over heels for this Rockstar.

𝙄 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙖 𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙠𝙞𝙨𝙨.

Bronte was amazing she is this completely unselfish person who put her entire life on hold to be the best mother she could possibly be. And you can see that in how amazing her children are. She has a gentle soul and has gone through some atrocious things. But she doesn’t let those wear so much on her. She is beyond strong in how she deals with things in her life and you want to just wrap her up in a hug and tell her that it’s okay to be selfish every once in a while. I loved the dynamic between her and Drew, he’s laid back and funny and she’s I’ll be it a little uptight but it’s his demeanor that helps her to let go and have some much needed fun.

𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙨𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙖𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙬, 𝙨𝙝𝙚’𝙙 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩. 𝙎𝙝𝙚’𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜.

This book was nothing like I had expected but everything I didn’t even know I needed. Rachel’s words have the ability to pull you instantly into any story and keep you there until the very end. Her characters come to life before your eyes as her words wrap themselves around your heart. This story warmed me from the inside out, after I finished, I just felt a lightness to my heart that I didn’t even know I needed. If you are looking for a funny Rockstar Romance than this is the book for you.

I was so happy to read Drew’s story, I had been waiting not so patiently for it. He and Bronte were a perfect match but I have to say it was Drew and Amelia’s relationship that stole the story for me, I adored them! For some reason Drew reminds me of a snarkier more broken version Zane. I would have loved to have seen more of the Seaside gang! The friendships, disfunction, fun and laughter are what make these books so special imo, we saw some of them a little bit but not nearly enough and not all of them them. I missed the Seaside gang (especially Lincoln and Dani in this book) and was hoping for more of a presence than we got. Overall though I loved this story and hope it is not the last we will see of the Seaside gang!

Thank you Rachel for allowing me to be apart of your ARC team! I'm loving every minute of it and i'm so thankful to get the chance to read your books early! Drew is sooooo good! So good! And he's definitely the funny one in the group!

"Will: I, too, saved that picture.
Me: Don't make me send you. The. Picture.
Will: Send it, and I will CHOKE YOU!
Ty: Send it, send it, send it.
    I clicked send and grinned.
It was the picture of Will with his zit on the Thermos in all his glory.

Can we just say how much we love these group chats that Rachel does in her books? OMG. I can't tell you how many times i've laughed out loud while reading them and have had my family give me weird looks like... WTF is wrong with you? Ummm, nothing is wrong with me... Rachel is just hilarious. Carry on....
Anyways, this is Drew's story and the last in the Seaside Pictures series. (sad face). It always sucks when your favourite series comes to an end. Although, Rachel is giving me quite a few more favourite series to go back to. There's always something good from her that I can read next. You definitely don't want to miss this story! Bronte had kids early. When she was in high school actually and even though she thought the man who gave her kids was going to be her forever - that little fairytale didn't come true. He left them and only decided to even get in touch with them again when he found how his son had hit it big in the music world. When Drew Amhurst showed his face in Bronte's kitchen the day he came to tell them that he was going to be mentoring her son, Braden, Bronte nearly has a heart attack! Her long time celebrity crush was standing in her kitchen! He couldn't get her out of his head after that day and now, when Braden plans to go on his honeymoon before they go on tour, Drew finds himself staying at Bronte's to watch her while her son is away. He's giving himself to her for one week. He's making three promises...
    "No strings attached."
    "No falling in love."
    "It's only seven days."
He plans on helping Bronte get her groove back... and then when those seven days are up... he'll walk back out that door and leave. But it may end up being a little harder than expected to keep those promises.

Drew is by far a top character and I looooove this story. He has a messy past and a lot of baggage he carries around with him but he still manages to get by and keep the smile pasted and the jokes flowing.... but nobody can hold on forever. One day... they'll crack. You just have to know who to have in your corner. Who will be the one to have your back and keep you from falling? Bronte loves her kids. They mean everything to her and after their father left them... and her, she has a bit of a hard time trusting anyone. But Drew isn't just anyone. This story was so much fun to read. I loved how they interacted with each other, but more entertaining was Drew interacting with Bronte's daughter, Amelia. Amelia is so funny! It was really an entertaining read and I'm happy with the ending that Drew got. He deserved it! I love Drew!
