Sweet Indulgence is the second book in my Silicon Beach Trilogy. 
While each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone, they do share the following:
  • Setting - Southern California. Specifically, the coastal area that encompasses Santa Monica, Venice, and Playa Vista, and is home to 500+ tech startups. Touted as the new "Silicon Valley," this westside region of Los Angeles has been nicknamed "Silicon Beach."
  • Characters - The series follows the interconnected lives of two families who left Russia to settle in the U.S. In order, the books tell the stories of Anna Lazarev (Beyond the Ivory, Book 1), her childhood friend Leo Kogan (Sweet Indulgence, Book 2), and their younger siblings: Anna's sister Klara, and Leo's brother Vlad (A Matter of Trust, Book 3).
  • Humor - real-life problems, a happy ending, and plenty of laughs along the way.

When I was kid, my mom would take us walking in the park. Whenever someone would stop to coo over my baby sister and ask how old we were, Mom inevitably answered: "The doctor is 7, and the lawyer is 1."

Fast-forward a few decades, and what do you know? Doctor and lawyer, bingo!

I love practicing medicine. I especially enjoy the rewards of taking care of entire families over long periods of time.

But secretly, I always dreamed about writing. Over the years, I dabbled as time permitted: freelancing for various local newspapers, doing a summer stint as a teaching assistant at a creative writing program, penning a few partial manuscripts that promptly got relegated to the bottom of some desk drawer.

Thanks to my wonderful husband, who encouraged me to blow the dust off one of those manuscripts, I'm finally pursuing my dream! Not full-time, to be sure. I'm still a physician with a busy practice, and a mom with three kids. But after the charts are done and the kids are asleep, it's just me and my laptop--and, boy, am I having fun!

Why romance, you ask? Because I love a guaranteed happy ending. I hope you do, too!

    Becca and Leo’s story is incredibly sweet and heartfelt. They grow as individuals and as a couple, which I love in a romance. Becca starts out as someone who lives in denial and has a hard time standing up for herself. I loved watching her grow a backbone and find her voice. It was awesome to see her come into her own! Leo was kind and patient, having loved Becca from afar for years. When they finally get together, things don’t go perfectly. They have their ups and downs, which is completely realistic. Leo’s intentions were always from a good place, even if he sometimes came across as unsupportive. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but let’s just say Leo wasn’t always on my good side. However, by the end of the novel, he totally redeemed himself! I enjoyed experiencing Becca and Leo’s journey to their happily-ever-after. This is the first novel that I’ve read by Jill Blake, and I will definitely be reading more from this author!

    This is my new favorite book by Jill Blake.
    Why? Top 6 reasons…

    1. Leo. He’s hot, he’s chivalrous, he’s loved Becca forever. He’s the total opposite of all the alpha-holes who’ve taken over contemporary romance in the post-FSOG era. I love him. Seriously. Oh, and did I mention he’s a surgeon? Yep, steadily employed, the kind of guy you’d love to bring home to mom. Before you say boooring—let me tell you: he’s not perfect. He has some flaws which make him interesting and real. I wish more romance heroes were like him. And more real-life men too. OK, moving on…
    2. Becca. She’s nice, she’s smart. She’s the kind of gal I’d love to have as a friend. She isn’t too sure of herself at the start of the book, but you can see how her character develops and grows.
    3. The supporting characters. Becca’s mom. I like how her story is woven into Becca’s, and it also helps explain Becca’s insecurities at the start of the book. We revisit some of the folks we met in Jill’s previous books, too. Like Max, who was the hero of Without a Net. He’s hilarious here. I love love love his interactions with Leo. Anna is here too (from the first book in this trilogy, Beyond the Ivory Tower). If you haven’t read those books, you can still enjoy this one, because it’s a standalone and doesn’t require any knowledge of anything that happened before or outside of this book. (But do yourself a favor after you’re done reading Sweet Indulgence: one-click those other books I mentioned. You’ll thank me.)
    4. No cliffhangers. Let me repeat: NO CLIFFHANGERS. I hate it when authors leave you hanging in the end, forcing you to buy the next book just to find out how the story ends (or continues for book after book ad infinitum). When I buy a novel, I expect a beginning, middle, and end, and if it’s a romance, I expect the couple to end up together and happy before the last page. On this score, Jill Blake delivers every time.
    5. The writing. It’s well-paced and well-edited, which makes for easy reading.
    6. The glossary. There are a few foreign words sprinkled through the book. If you’re wondering what they mean, you can just flip to the back and voila! Definitions. You don’t have to, because the meaning comes through the context, but if you’re curious, the glossary’s there.
    There you have it. My top 6 reasons for why I loved this book.

    This was my second book that I've read by Jill Blake and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. Jill Blake has given us a story that will suck you in and keep you there from start to finish ,and then leave you waiting more from this author. This is Becca Markham and Leo Kogan touching story. Becca is just getting over a bad relationship with John her boyfriend who had cheated on her. But Leo has always loved her for the pass 4 years ,but didn't make a move because she was with someone else, but now that she's free all he wants to do is love her and protect her. But what she wants is to follow her heart. Becca isn't ready for another relationship and she feels that deep down. But her and Leo have different ideas about job and money ,so can they give a little for each other or are they better off just being friends .Can Becca give her heart to Leo or will she think that he will cheat on her also.This is a fun fast read with some hot and sexy characters,that will have you on the edge of your chair waiting to see what's going to happen next.I could tell you more about this touching story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this great story ,you won't be disappointed.
