ONE PENNY A STORY, I called across the playground.

Entirely unusual, given how shy I was (and still am), for me to be shouting anything across a playground.

But there I was, a double-sided sheet of narrow ruled paper (I've always been kind of particular about the paper I like. Back then, narrow ruled. Now, grid.) in my hand, selling stories I hadn't yet wrote.

Every line featured a different title. I'd lay on my bed the night before thinking of them all, probably singing along to Boyzone songs as I did [hey, don't judge... I see you over there like you never thought you were destined to marry a boy band singer...].

My school friends could buy a Mona original for one penny. One penny!

They'd pick the title they liked, hand over their sweaty penny, and I'd write the story for them.

And I've never grown out of writing stories.

Now, I write cozy mystery stories from my den in the Peak District, and when I'm not writing them, I'm reading them.

Picked this up as a Halloween read. Now I have to go to the beginning of the series to see how everything started. The characters and plot were just that beguiling. Looks like I have another author to add to my 'must read all her book's list.

Still reading the Mystic Springs series. It is concerning a town where spirits interact with the living. A murder occurs and who is responsible? Is it the ghosts or the living? Good murder mystery. Recommended.

Book was enjoyable, and kept you reading with surprises along the way, the only thing I found quite annoying was the constant "erm" that was found in the reading, if one is at a loss for words, I get it, but I feel it was just a bit overused.
Finding out about Violet and who ended up being the killer were both surprises, never expected it! I love Mona !

I'm beginning to like the characters in this series a bit more than I have up until now. I'm still not too fond of Connie, because she occasionally pulls a YA move (like confronting a murderer with only her ghost sister for backup). The supporting characters (living and dead) are generally more appealing than the main characters.

The POVs alternate with every chapter. Usually this would bother me, but in this series, it actually works reasonably well. If you like some paranormal with your light mysteries, you may enjoy this series.

I really did like these folks from Mystic Springs. It was a good, captivating plot and was easy to keep engrossed in it. I will be buying the next just to find out what happens next, with Connie and Sage, as well as the girls.

When a visiting rock star puts a curse on the Baker house it is not much of a shock when the property developer who wants to demolish it dies soon afterwards. A fun well written Halloween cozy mystery with great characters, entertaining story with plenty of suspects. I am enjoying this series. Highly recommended.
