The Death and Life of Eleanor Parker: An absolutely gripping mystery novel Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 345 ratings

‘Wow, let me catch my breath, what a wild ride this book was. I started reading it one evening thinking I’ll read a few chapters then sleep but nope. I devoured around 65% of the book in the evening and I had to wake up early so I could finish it.’ Katie’s Book Cave, 5 stars

‘I will never forget the night I drowned…’

Seventeen-year-old Eleanor Parker wakes up cold and alone in the river that twists through her quiet village. She remembers a hand on her chest, another on her head, water in her throat, those final gasps for air…

Her brother’s girlfriend was drowned in the same river the summer before, held under the water by an unknown killer.

Determined to unlock the mystery of what really happened that night, Eleanor can't escape the feeling that something terrible links her to the previous summer's murder. But will she discover the shocking truth, before it’s too late?

A gripping and extraordinary coming of age novel that will keep you guessing until the very end.

    4.5 Bewitching Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a young adult thriller with a paranormal twist and it was brilliant! I’d like to encourage you to read this book with an open mind and the understanding that not everything in this book is “believable“... because the only way it is possible for somebody to investigate their own murder is for there to be a supernatural element... requiring us the reader to stretch our imagination.... for me this just was the perfect shift making an ordinary story extraordinary!

17-year-old Eleanor wakes up on a river bank with no memory of how she got there... is she dead? Is she alive? Is she a ghost? People can see her, she can walk, she can talk... but she cannot smell, taste, feel, and she is oh so cold... now Eleanor is determined to figure out what happened the night before she ended up in the river and who tried to kill her... and will they try again?

Eleanor was such a likable character... I loved playing detective right along with her, everyone was a suspect... her boyfriend, her best friend, her brother, the guy working at the local diner... I must give a special S/O to that diner love the idea of a wall filled with cassette tapes.... antique cassette tapes... ugh makes me feel old!

This truly is a genre defying book that I strongly encourage you to give a try! This was one of the best young adult books I’ve read this year and the uniqueness and supernatural element of the story should really appeal to a broad audience of younger readers.... I also need to give Kerry Wilkinson major props... as a grown man he did a phenomenal job of writing a book from a female teenager’s perspective... I certainly hope this is not his last young adult book, because I for one am looking forward to many more!

Absolutely recommend to readers of all ages, this was a well-done thriller with a unique twist!

*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this wonderful book ***

With this, I have read all of Kerry Wilkinson's standalone books. I was intrigued by the book, and kept reading, but I am afraid if I had read this first, I might not have read the others. The story was compelling, but surreal, and the ending didn't answer the biggest questions, but wrapped it up with a bow, albeit in a slam bam way. I do recommend it, so suspend disbelief and read it!

Really enjoyed this book written from a "dead" teenager's perspective. The chatacter's are described perfectly and though the motive and the killer are revealed at the end, I felt the supernatural aspect was not really necessary. We never do learn what the necklace represented, but was a perfect foil for what happens. Wilkinson gets into the mind of a typical teenage girl and shows what an excellent writer he is. Enjoyed thoroughly.

Not my cup of tea. It had potential to be good, but it just wasn’t quite there. Started out interesting, started to make you think it was going to shock you, then... bleh. Just ok.

So unusual. Wake up, and realise you are dead. Murdered actually. What do you do? Go home. Everybody can see you, hear you, and so on. And no body. No dead body. You have to find out who killed you. Right?
The reader is fooled along. All the time. I coudn't second guess the authour at all. The end will surprise you.
Truly a new idea, wonderful. Oh, and there are possible sequels. Nice.

Ellie woke up in the river. She was dead, she knew she was dead. Her lungs were full of water and she was numb to everything except feeling frozen. As always, Kerry Wilkinson has written a book with a bizarre story that I simply could not stop reading. If you enjoy off beat who-dun-its, with constant new clues along the way, and an ending that will shock you; this is the book for you.

Having ,I thought, just finished reading the last Kerry Wilkinson book I had on my Kindle and was distraught that I would have to wait until the next Jessica Daniel novel was published,I trawled around my Kindle looking for something /anything I could read.

I came across this book that I must have bought sometime and seemingly forgot about it. To say I was pleasantly surprised is the very least I can say!

I was intrigued from the very start .I knew it wasn't going to be like any of the Jessica Daniel or Andrew Hunter books but this was so different from any of Kerry's other stand alone books. I turned out to be fascinating. It defies a genre classification virus a tremendous read !!

I hope you are like me and become engrossed in it !
It really really is a fantastic read you will not be disappointed

I have read all Kerry Wilkinson’s books, I absolutely love the Jessica Daniel series and Kerry’s style of writing so was eager to start this novel. This book was very different but totally absorbing, I found it hard to put down. Without giving anything away I had guessed the identity of the murderer but it didn’t detract from the thrilling conclusion. Brilliant!

A good YA book, well fleshed out with a good twist at the end. The author constantly saying 'giving the piss' instead of 'taking the piss' annoyed me.

Having discovered Kerry a few years ago I'm hooked on the Jessica Daniel series. These stand alone thrillers are different but equally exciting, I could hardly put it down!
