Smart-ass AI? - Check.

This time they are ready...ish.
Ready to get revenge for all that has been lost.
Making it out alive will be tougher than they ever imagined. Will Emily ever forgive herself for the danger she's about to put her crew through? Is this life for her?

While Emily is still figuring out how to use these powers she has been bestowed with, she is also questioning what it means to be called The Chosen One and just how much pressure is on her.

Epic fast-paced space opera adventure with a sprinkle of creative cursing, leading onto book 3 in the series.

There is plenty of action and twists!
Just means nothing is as it is seen?
More "The Chosen" powers appear as needed for the coming fray.
The aliens' types of names are right out of earth legends.
    Next, challenge new powers?

An excellent space opera with engaging characters. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the challenges they go through. Looking forward to the next story

The series is not bad, and even though there are a lot of similarities to the Kurtherian Gambit series, there enough to keep me interested to continue reading the series since it’s on kindle unlimited. Looking forward to the next book.

Like a lot of Sci-Fi there is a lot of "magical" stuff whether it is called "magic" or "technology". This works OK when the writer allows you to suspend your disbelief. When the tech is improbably invented when the story line demands it and/or new abilities are generated at the most convenient moments it gets to be increasingly difficult to suspend that disbelief. I found that this novel suffered from that syndrome. It would have been easier if the tech and abilities were set at the beginning of the novel and the novel existed within that set of assumptions.

This is not exactly the only thing which enters into the equation, however. One is less willing to consider the book to be a good one in a particular aspect if other components are awry as well.

Let's face it. The book needed at least a good proofreader and maybe a better editor (if one was used). There were just too many points where the wrong word was used (even if it was a homophone) or the phrasing was unnecessarily awkward.

The character development always seemed a little stiff to me. I actually expect some of that in SciFi just because there is so much thrown at us in terms of environments and situations that it is difficult to develop a character consistency which works across a plethora of complexity.

Even then? About 2/3rds of the way through the book I found myself putting the famous (in SciFi) red shirt on two characters. Yup, the predicted outcome(s) was achieved. I shouldn't have been able to be that accurate.

The strategy and tactics were really, really bad. OK, I don't usually expect too much from SciFi tactics but this was a bit beyond acceptable awfulness for the sake of the story. Maybe I'm just not able to excuse this issue because there was so much else which I found problematic.

    ***Spoiler Alert****

What most convinced me that I will not read the next book is that the heroes and (especially) the great heroine of the story do not have the proper reticence about killing people/critters. And at the end there is outright pointless torture ordered by one and then countenanced by others. Maybe there are some circumstances where torture is ethically acceptable but I've not seen one yet (and I'm a combat veteran). This was not remotely acceptable by any civilized standard.

Too disgusting for me to even consider the next book.

It is unfortunate because the author seems to be bright and inventive and those are traits which, with a bit of proofreading and editing can be shaped into tremendous stories. Hopefully the stuff I thoroughly disliked will be fixed in future offerings but I'm not willing to take the chance and get the next book.
