The Kiss Lottery: A Novella Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,597 ratings

From bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a steamy novella about first love and second chances where a city girl returns home for a Valentine’s Day tradition…and the boy who broke her heart.

Roses are red, violets are blue—someone in Rose has feelings for you…

Yeah, bad ones. Everly Davis didn’t leave her tight-knit hometown on the best terms. It’s been ten years, but you don’t forget heartbreak like that. Then again, the anonymous invite to the annual Kiss Lottery in Rose, Tennessee, gives Everly content for her podcast. And she has a bone to pick with that old heartbreak anyway.

Beckett Whitfield has never left Rose—and he’s never forgotten Everly. He even named the villain in his latest bestseller after her. Turns out she’s not happy about that. Nothing about their reunion is particularly happy, and after the way they left things, what did he expect?

When the Kiss Lottery pairs them together, Everly and Beckett will have to confront old feelings that never went away and the secrets they never shared. But finally telling each other everything might be exactly what they’ve needed all along.

A young woman names Everly is so excited to be feeling all those feelings and one day it all changes! Everly decides she has to get out of her small hometown. This book was very well written. It has great banter between all the characters, if fact I found myself laughing several times.Hurry to grab this book as today is its debut to the world.

    No cliffhanger
    Standalone novella
    Told from both POVs
    Second chance romance

If you are looking for a sweet quick read this is a great option. It’s the perfect mix of small town quirky, funny, a dash of angst and love.

Without giving too much away Everly and Beckett were best friends growing up. Feelings started to grow but a secret cause Beckett to push Everly away.

Fast forward 10 years and she is back in town for the Kiss Lottery and Beckett will do whatever it takes to make sure he doesn’t lose her again.

Only thing I wanted closure on that I didn’t get was Quincy and Lily!!!! Lily needs closure!!! Justice for Lily. lol.

First book by this author and well I can't tell if I loved it or hated it!
While this is a quick read it took me 2 days to get through it and at the end of it all I still don't know how I feel about this story.

Everly is returning home to a small town named rose where let's just say her senior year ended less than perfect and left her running from her past. She receives a mysterious invite to the Kiss Lottery ( noted the audiobook actually calls it the Love Lottery!) Anyway she decides to return to Rose face her fears and confront her past all while finding her mysterious secret admirer.

In comes Beckett who is super handsome who just hasn't seemed to ever get over Everly and while life has had its obstacles he is determined to confront his past with Everly and make her his.

While this book had good bones idk it just didn't wow me I didn't hate it but I surely didn't love it but if you are a small town romance girly I would say give it a try!

Misunderstandings on both characters parts creates a rift between these lovers. Some woeing on one's part allows some communication and a little forgiveness which goes a long way to allow their love to shine through and renewing their story again. I love the happily ever after ending!

I really liked this novella. I typically don't read novellas because there isn't enough time to build their romance without it turning into insta-love which is one of my pet peeves. I want to fall in love with the characters and, like Miley days, it's the climb not the destination. This story blew apart my previous biases about novellas. The tension and the longing was drawn out well for its length and even though it was obvious who sent the invitation, I still appreciated the journey there.
This was a great little valentines day novella with spice, banter and all the feels ❤️🥰

It’s the kind of story you grab after a rage read as a palate cleanser. The angst is so low it’s practically nonexistent.

To me they needed to punch up the drama between the main characters because as it is the love story that developed between the two feels surface level and unbelievable. And the thing that puts a wedge between the two to begin with just feels weird. Their parents have an affair together and he puts the responsibility on her even though she knows nothing about it. He distances himself from her in solidarity to his mom. This girl is a teenager literally living alone after the death of her mother and he’s like well i can’t take it out on anyone but you, so I’ll pull away even though we love each other… and then this is the catalyst for the “big” betrayal that takes place. The betrayal felt so dumb to me. I’m from a place so small it is legally a village and if something like this had happened… there would have been blame all around, not just shouldered on one person if there was even that much blame. It woulda been drama for sure, but not the kind that causes a whole town to point fingers and ignore a literal child. So weird. That the main male character who supposedly loved her was able to treat her that way was hard to understand. And then it’s all just brushed under the rug later because it’s been 10 years so no hard feelings. Nope. It’s an easy low angst read, but it’s also just missing that note of credibility to sell the story and the characters’ feelings.

This was a short and light hearted read. The chemistry between Beckett & Everly was amazing. I liked how they talked openly about their past mistakes and regrets. The slow burn was also satisfying and I was rooting for them to end up together because it was obvious that they were a perfect match. The plot was predictable but the romance was sweet. Overall this was an enjoyable read and I can't wait to see what's coming next!

This adorable Novella has Everly returning home to record an episode for her successful podcast. Featuring the Valentine's Day tradition of the kiss lottery where singles enter to be paired up on dates and randomly matched with each other. Receiving an invitation to the kiss lottery as well as other gifts from a secret admirer she's left wondering who it could be. Being back in Rose has her facing some old left behind issues including her childhood best friend and long time crush Beckett.
Isla delivers in this small town, returning home, childhood friends valentines novella. It's super sweet and even has a dash of mystery thrown in. Top it all off with some spice and we have a 5 star read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but with some disappointments
Reviewed in the Netherlands on February 15, 2025
I thought it was a fun and entertained story, but was a little disappointed at the same time. It was a short story anyway, so I felt the romance between Beckett and Everly should have been given more prominence. As much as I liked the interactions with the entire group of friends, they took too much attention away from the couple. And then there was the ”lovemaking” (they rather used the F-word themselves....cringe) which was very disappointing in my opinion. This story was about 2 people who had loved each other pretty much all their lives and were supposed to have been looking forward to this moment for years. But it didn't feel that way at all. Sadly, it was indeed just sex, and not lovemaking. There were very few emotions involved, there was no yearning. After all these years, one should have expected this. Beckett in particular seemed to be able to control himself to the point where he could effortlessly make an entire marathon session of it, and had the stamina and sexual trickery of an experienced gigolo, rather than displaying the unbridled, blind passion of an infatuated man who had dreamed of this moment for years. It almost seemed like he was ticking off a list. I found that very disappointing, quite a turn-off and a missed opportunity. I really loved their moment by the cherry trees. I thought it had a 100 times more emotions and intimacy then their actual ”lovemaking”.

When Everly receives an invitation to her home town Kiss Lottery, she decides to finally come home after ten years away. Waiting for her is the man she's always loved, Beckett. Are they finally in the right place at the right time for their love to shine bright?
I loved this little slice of true love and the humour it was written in. The characters are gleeful in their exploits and loving in their interactions. A great little read that seemed like so much more!
