The Kitty That Got the Cream: A Danny Diamond Erotic Mystery (#1.2) (Danny Diamond Erotic Mysteries) Kindle Edition
Eileen Jacobsen has seen her share of tawdry cases. As secretary for the womanizing detective Danny Diamond, it goes with the territory. But she’s always experienced them from the sidelines. That is, until her boss approaches her with a case all her own.
It’s supposed to be a milk run. A rich, eccentric widow has lost her favorite cat, and the detective agency is hired to find out where he ran off to. Eileen quickly learns the wayward feline is with a relative in San Francisco and convinces Diamond to take a jaunt with her up to the City by the Bay to retrieve him.
She’s never been to the city before, and it’s a perfect opportunity to for a day date on someone else’s dime. But it’s never as simple as that when it comes to a Danny Diamond caper – especially when libidos run hot and idle conversation turns to talk of a very exclusive "club" (*wink-wink*).
Or when an old lady’s cat turns out to be the spawn of Satan himself.
“The Kitty That Got the Cream” is a Novelette-length erotic tale of approximately 14,000 words.

About the author

Logan Black is a husband, father, and corporate wage slave living in South Carolina. His moonlighting gig is way more interesting than his day job. His primary artistic endeavor is the Danny Diamond series of spicy mysteries set in 1940s Los Angeles—an erotic take on hardboiled and Noir classics like "The Maltese Falcon." He has a penchant for old books, good whiskey, and everything kinky, and he shares them with his readers whenever he gets the chance.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2023If you've read any of the other books in the Danny Diamond series, then you HAVE to read this short story. Eileen is a fun, super sassy heroine thrust on the case of the missing pussycat for her first solo case under Danny's wing. Their chemistry is phenomenal both in and out of the office. I found myself giggling at the spicy banter between them almost as much as I drooled over the heat they bring to the table. This may be a short story, but it's packed full of spicy adventure waiting around every nook and cranny of this Mile High Club extravaganza.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2023One of the first things that always grabs my attention in any story Logan Black crafts is the vocabulary. A true dive into any decade, full immersion, requires an in-depth knowledge of how society communicated. Right off the bat, Logan succeeds in dragging you into that period, using terminology and slang that one may have long since forgotten. What's even better is that you almost don't notice it, so you can appreciate the flavors of the time without the distraction of a desperate and obvious drowning of a checklist so often encountered with other authors.
That's one item that makes the dichotomy between Eileen and Danny so effective and dynamic. For one thing, their clever back-and-forths, not to mention the wordplay, which I'm a sucker for, makes reading through dialogue a lark. They also make up for what the other lacks in knowledge, and as a result, the reader is treated to the full era experience.
There is also the charm of their different personalities and how they collide. Without breaking expectations of her character, Eileen does manage to surprise, showing a broader range of action than anticipated and yet fully human.
One more aspect I'll note is the author's ability to sandwich tension with humor, allowing the reader to feel capable of pacing their emotions through the story. That is always a plus, because too much tension can invoke impatience in the reader.
Lastly, with the firecracker Eileen shows herself to be, there's an extremely delightful feminist scene that warmed my heart. I won't spoil it, but it's another part of the Eileen/Danny dichotomy, that balance, that just works so well for these stories.
For an erotic mystery novel, Logan Black, as usual, exceeds all expectations because one will find quality in all aspects of the story without a need to rush ahead for the erotic content.
Either way, it is exactly the length it needs to be.
That's what she said.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2024it is a partnership that isnt most likely
the chemistry is just right, giving the sizzles where it needs to be. the main characters were a sort of match made in heaven - a serious bloke of a man and a sassy assistant with penchant for anything sensual...the spicy moments are spicy enough for the imagination
the writing style is funny, vivid and each scene played out to the next one so the continuity is spontaneous and free
very witty and is a good read to pick up your lazy afternoon
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2023Who wants to join the mile high club? But you have to do it with class, and that’s just what Eileen does. She’s classy and sassy.
This might be favorite so far. The tables get turned on Diamond, for once. The set up changes just enough to bring it new life.
I love the fact that it’s not a straight shot from point A to point B. The play on words in the title is great.
The flashback style of the telling of the story adds to the suspense and gives it a lighter feel.
My only complaint is that Black needs to write longer books so that I can dive deeper into the characters more at one time.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2023The Kitty That Got the Cream: A Danny Diamond Erotic Mystery (#1.2), my third read from author Logan Black. If you're offended by adult themes you might not like this book. After reading The Money Shot & Sticky Fingers I was expecting some literary growth by the third book, but no. Just another short read that I finished in under an hour. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. - Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2023this was a interesting concept, I really never thought of a erotic mystery but it works well with what was going on. The story was really well done and I enjoyed getting to go on this mystery. The characters worked well overall and I'm glad I read this.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
