The Last Eligible Billionaire Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 17,651 ratings

He's a billionaire heir. A grump supreme. Hater of people. Bigger hater of peopling with people. And my new fake boyfriend.

Emotionally unavailable doesn’t even begin to describe Hayes Rutherford. He’s cold. He’s distant. He has more defenses than a nuclear missile silo. And he’s the ultimate catch of the century. At least, according to his bank statement.

My job’s simple: Keep Hayes’s matchmaking relatives and all interested ladies away from the cranky, grumpy, walled-off heir to my favorite movie empire by pretending to be his one true love, and in return, he won’t ruin my life over a teensy, tiny little misunderstanding.

But the more I sneak past his walls and fences, the more I realize that while we might be from different worlds, we have more in common than either of us expected. The man under all the glitz, glamour, and dollar signs could be the real love of my life.

But you know what they say about fake dating a billionaire—it’s all fun and games until the scandals start.

The Last Eligible Billionaire is a swoony, laugh-out-loud romance featuring a botched wax job, a woman in over her head, a man in over his heart, and the sweetest misguided dog to ever play matchmaker…or at least make sure these two anti-love birds never have clothes when they get out of the shower. It stands alone and comes complete with grand romantic gestures.

Pippa Grant wanted to write books, so she did.

Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine published under the name Jamie Farrell.

When she’s not writing romantic comedies, she’s fumbling through being a mom, wife, and mountain woman, and sometimes tries to find hobbies. Her crowning achievement? Having impeccable timing for telling stories that will make people snort beverages out of their noses. Consider yourself warned.

This book is absolute chaos but also absolute happiness

This book is absolute chaos but also absolute happiness
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥 The Last Eligible Billionaire was a total Pippa Grant experience. Quirky, over-the-top characters. Hilarious hijinx. And a love that shouldn't make sense but totally does. Begonia was kicking off her post-divorce vacation with a bikini wax and at-home hair dye job when a grumpy man barges into her vacation home's bathroom, demanding who she was. It turns out that the house should not have been a vacation rental, Begonia just got scammed out of her money, and Hayes Rutherford is asking her to leave. Yes, that Hayes Rutherford. Brother to her actor crush. One of the heirs to the Hollywood fortune. Somehow, as she was trying to leave, he ends up rescinding his request to leave and swaps it with a request to pretend to be his girlfriend to keep his scheming relatives at bay. Begonia is a breath of fresh air. She endears herself to others and to us readers without any agenda. She embraces life and finds the good in everything. On the other hand, life has made Hayes jaded. He is wary of people's agenda, especially when it comes to being close to him. He just wants to be left alone. Putting these two together shouldn't work, but they actually bring out the best in each other. Begonia shows Hayes that there is still beauty and goodness in this world, and Hayes protects and builds Begonia up. Along the way, not only do we fall in love with these two, but we also fall in love with this world that Pippa Grant has created. Marshmallow -- the therapy dog who causes more trouble in the best way -- especially steals the show. This book is absolute chaos but also absolute happiness. If you need a fun pick-me-up, this is a great choice for a read.

I love Chapter 35 the best, I think.

Hayes Rutherford's family owns Razzle Dazzle, a family friendly amusement park and movie franchise. His brother Jonas starred in Razzle Dazzle films but Hayes is less inclined to be the public face of anything. He's been opposed to love since his last serious girlfriend cheated on him with his supposed best friend, but his family is relentless in trying to fix him up with a suitable life mate.

Magnolia is newly divorced from a man who just frankly didn't treat her right. He didn't love her for herself and her quirks and her loving personality. So she scores a sweet deal on a mansion rental on the Maine coast. Unfortunately, it wasn't a legitimate vacation rental, as she discovers when Hayes comes home to retreat from 2 weeks of public events (weddings & funerals) and finds her barely dressed in his bathroom.

Marshmallow is Magnolia's dog. A service dog school failure, since he does all the things but anytime he wants to rather than when requested. And Hayes is allergic.

When Hayes's family crashes his peaceful retreat with more plans to fix him up with a woman, he decides that Magnolia needs to pose as his girlfriend.

She is so open and really just wants to see the best in everyone. She's got the best heart, and Hayes isn't ready to believe she's not hiding something. And he's not sure he'll ever be able to express his feelings again, since he's been burned so many times in the past by women who just wanted him for whatever they wanted at the time - money, fame, jewelry.

And all Magnolia wants is not to be the one who does all of the loving in a relationship.

This is probably one of my favorite Pippa books that doesn't revolve around Ice Hockey or Baseball.

Gosh. I wish I had a Begonia in my life. She had me laughing throughout the whole book. &There is no one who could possibly be better for Hayes in this whole world!

So, if you love hilarious rom com’s with quirky yet kind and loving women, who are capable of making the grumpiest of men fall in love, then this is 10000% the next book you should be picking up!

Hayes Alexander Rutherford is a billionaire and heir to the Razzle Dazzle film empire. His brother Jonas Rutherford is a Razzle Dazzle film star and both of brothers are extremely handsome.

Begonia Fairchild is a high school art teacher, recently divorced and vacationing with her trained service dog, Marshmallow, in a mansion that happened to be listed on a vacation rental website at a bargain rate of $50.00 per night.
She quickly finds herself in trouble with Hayes Rutherford, owner of the mansion, when he finds her in his house.

People you have it all in this fake relationship trope and Marshmallow steals the story 😂
Guaranteed a HEA and lots of laughs 💕

Oh. My. Heart! I've loved and enjoyed quite a few of Pippa Grant's romantic comedies, but this new standalone? It did a Marshmallow and ran off with my heart and handed it over to Hayes Rutherford (not to be confused with Rutherford Hayes, 19th president of the United States of America) and Begonia Fairchild. Who, you may ask, are Hayes and Begonia, and how the heck does something like a marshmallow become a thief of hearts? Welp, if you don't know the answer to either of that, then that tells me that you've yet to read The Last Eligible Billionaire. That leads me to a question of my own: What's wrong with you? Clearly something is amiss because this book MUST either already be sitting on your bookshelf OR added to your to-be-read list.

The Last Eligible Billionaire is a fake relationship romance, and I haven't made a secret of my muted enthusiasm for this particular trope because it tends to play out the same way. But then, this is a Pippa Grant-penned novel, and if anyone was going to be able to make me fall in love with the trope and be a smitten kitten and happy puppy mash-up of a reader, it would be her. Her main characters are the epitome of grumpy and sunshine. Hayes is almost forty and being considered the last eligible billionaire in the country has become the bane of his existence. He blackmails Begonia into agreeing to be his girlfriend for two weeks in order to stave off his family's matchmaking, but who would've thought being personally and purposely mismatched with the thirty-two-year-old teacher would be so life-changing?

This book. THIS. BOOK!!! We're only in the first quarter of the year, but I'm already putting it out there: This book is one of the best romance reads for 2022. It's got that patented Pippa Grant rom-com magic that I've come to expect from this author, but it also has a sprinkling of angst to it, enough to put a smile on the face of an angst addict like me. Ironic, I know. But this smile was different, and by "different" I mean basking in the swoon of it all. I adored Begonia, and I was captivated by Hayes. At the onset, these two were more nonsensical as a couple than an actual love match, but they simply clicked and were wonderfully extraordinary. They had a memorable cast of supporting characters, but the one who took the cake was Marshmallow, scene-stealer of the highest furry calibre. The Last Eligible Billionaire has stolen my heart, and in return, I'm handing it all of the le-sigh-worthy stars.

First read by this author and was pleasantly surprised. Had read some mixed reviews but what wasn't there to like. Marshmallow the dog stole the show truly adorable. Begonia was dizzy, eccentric, funny and whilst she got on some readers nerves, I thought she was a breath of fresh air. Hayes to though had his own issues was really a softy and the combination of the 2 of them worked sell. Some very obnoxious relatives but Begonia took it all in her stride and nothing really fazed her or got to her, much time to their annoyance. Some really lol moments, overall a feel good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let’s face it. Marshmallow stole the show!!
Reviewed in Australia on October 6, 2023
To be honest, at the beginning I wasn’t sure I was going to like either of these characters. Hayes was grumpy and gruff, and threw his weight around entirely too much, while Begonia was upbeat and bright. I couldn’t work out how two such polar opposite kind of people could ever find love, but the author pulled it off.
Hayes had a huge trust issue, and as the story progresses it’s easy to understand why, and it’s not just because of his wealth. His mother kept trying to push potential wives on him and Begonia became his fake girlfriend.
Only, as time progressed, he became to Begonia, everything her ex husband had failed to do for her. Hayes as her pretend boyfriend was her champion, standing up for her, thinking of her, listening to what she told him.
She in turn was his sunshine. The woman who got joy out of helping others and who gave him more than anyone had ever given him before.
I loved this book and all the characters, and there’s no shortage of other characters in this book.
It was funny, romantic, emotional and I was glued to it to the end. Plus, Marshmallow was the real star of this book. He was one funny dog and the things he got into had me in stitches.

I loved the story itself and most of all the well written characters. Not only Hayes and Begonia but also all the side characters especially Marshmallow the crazy dog.
It was my first book written by Pippa Grant, but won't be the last.
I really like books where you get to learn more about the characters and see (read) their development and I need interesting side characters. It gets boring when everything always and only circles around the two protagonists. This book gave me all that.
