The Longing of Lone Wolves: Season of the Wolf, an Enemies to Lovers Fantasy Romance (Fae Guardians Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 8,005 ratings

Humans destroyed the world. The Fae rebuilt it with magic. Thousands of years later, they battle over the last habitable piece of earth … sworn enemies until only one race remains.

Once a ruthless protector of Fae, wolf-shifter Rush now lives in exile—invisible, a criminal, and dying from a curse. Desperate to return to his life as a protector of Elphyne, he battles monsters to channel his inner rage. But when one turns up near his isolated cabin begging for help, everything changes.

Clarke is human, beautiful, and a feisty grifter. She's the sunshine to his grump, and the only one who sees through his curse. But that's not the only surprise. She has a message from the past … sins are repeating. If humans and fae don’t work together, it won’t just be just magic that dies. It will be everything.

Refusing to trust a known liar, Rush tricks Clarke into a bargain of obedience. If he hands her over to the authorities, she’s his ticket to freedom. To life. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes she’s not the monster he’s trained to believe. In fact, she incites a passion he never dreamed possible again.

Soon, he must choose between freedom and trusting those who betrayed him … or spending his remaining days with the enemy who captured his heart.

Why didn't I read this sooner?
Why did it take me so long to read this??? I finally read the longing of the lone wolves by @lana_p_author, and I binged it in 2 days! Now I am almost done with the second book, and I am wondering why It took me so long to read these. This is a post-apocalyptic series where the FAE has been able to thrive again. It's full of magic and adventure in saving the human race as well. The first book circles around Rush and Clark. The last thing Clark remembers is going to sleep in her time, and now she's awake in a completely different time and world. Last Vegas is gone. Cursed Wolf shifter, Rush, can finally be seen but only by Clark. Together, they are determined to break his curse and save the humans. This was a fun read, and I am excited to keep going with these guardians. Thorns book is the second book, and I am pretty sure I keep drooling! Overall ☆☆☆☆.5/5 Spice ★★★/5 Audio ☆☆☆☆☆/5

Don't fall for the lies, this is a must read before delving into the Fae Devils series. It all makes so much more sense!!!! In true Lana Pecherczyk fashion, the world building is astonishing. I cannot wait to see more of Thorne's story and see if this series gives more insight into Willow's tumultuous story before the Fae Devils takes place.

          CW: Sexual assault; physical assault; violence; torture;

The Longing of Lone Wolves is an exciting start to the Fae Guardians series. The thing that sold me on the book by the end was the world, even if the world-building dominates this book a bit too much.

Rush is a Fae Guardian, a wolf-shifter whose powers make him a ruthless protector of Elphyne. That is, he was one until he broke the rules half a century ago and was cut off from his power and cursed to be invisible to everyone. Now, he serves as a lonely protector, keeping the monsters and humans away from his people until a human washes up on his shore and is the only being that can see him. Clarke wakes up with no knowledge of where she is, only that it is not the same Las Vegas she left. Clarke ends up getting tied to Rush as he sees her as his ticket to getting his curse broken, but she ends up being much more important than either of them knows as evils from the past have made their way to this new world and threaten everything.

This book has a lot of heavy lifting to do to explain the world and the magic system. It’s both a fantasy novel, yet also grounded in our reality. But it also involves time traveling and post-apocalyptic nuclear war with magic! A lot is going on in this world, and it takes a while to understand everything, detracting from the romance and story. But once all the pieces came together, I was fascinated! Pecherczyk managed to make a Fae and shifter story feel new and fresh. By the end of the book, I realized there are so many characters, races and places to explore in this world that I was excited about future books.

When it comes to the romance, I feel it did suffer because of all the world-building. I didn’t see the connection between Rush and Clarke as much as I would have liked. Because of everything else going on in the book, it also seemed like their relationship didn’t have much time to develop. It felt like they went from zero to a hundred, and because of the lack of chemistry, it was a bit jarring. I felt like I missed some important scenes where their feelings developed and grew and their relationship progressed.

I really liked the Beauty and the Beast vibes we got with Rush, especially as Clarke finds him while his magic is nearly depleted. Clarke really upends his quiet, lonely life. I struggled to get a read on his personality, even though we do get chapters from his POV. Rush has to serve as Clarke and the reader’s guide to this new world, which I think hampered my ability to get to know him better.

Clarke was a bit more of a fun character to explore. She’s out of her time and might be the cause behind everything. She has a lot to deal with, but I thought she handled it with a lot of spunk and perseverance. If I woke up a millennia later with weird creatures trying to kill me, I don’t think I would have handled it nearly as well as she did. She’s a feisty heroine who is willing to go down fighting. I think her having some psychic abilities back in the day helped her adjust and be more open to this new world. I also loved the snippets we got of her past human life; she clearly fell in with the wrong people and feels she has to atone for it. It will be interesting to see how all the people from her old life will make their way to this new world as I don’t think we’ve seen the last of some of them.

While the romance and main storyline fell a bit flat because of all the worldbuilding, I loved some of the secondary characters we meet and love this world. There is so much more to explore. This book reminded me of an open-world video game in that regard – it feels like we’ve only uncovered a small corner of the map and have so much more adventure ahead of us.

I’ll definitely be picking up the next book in the Fae Guardians series as I’m looking forward to where Pecherczyk takes the story and builds on the world!

Sometimes I think reviews need a little context - and for this book specifically we definitely need it. So I’m here to say I am NOT a high fantasy reader. I’m a fantasy romance reader, and I don’t have a fast set of experience with the fantasy world beyond that.

So all of that being said, I surely loved this book and will be continuing the series.

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: The Longing of Lone Wolves by Lana Percherczyk, book one in the Fae Guardians series.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Fantasy romance, fated mates, opposites attract, enemies-to-lovers.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Two thousand years ago, humans destroyed the world. Since then, far have rebuilt it - keeping an unsteady peace between their courts and the remaining humans on the planet. Until one morning Clarke wakes up to this new world. She’s been frozen for two thousand years and gets a new chance at life - alongside a cursed fae named Rush.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: When you’re completely enthralled in a book and can’t put it down - and you skip your responsibilities to finish it - you know you’ve got a great book on your hands.

The concept of this world is great and unique to me. I love how the series was set up in this book, and can’t wait for more.

On this book specifically, I really enjoyed the idea of Clarke being more relatable and from modern times, while Rush was her guide to the new world. And I loved the nuance of Rush’s curse - that only Clarke could see him. Throw in a little fated mates action and I’m hooked.

Like I said at the beginning, I’m not a huge straight fantasy reader. But the half point I’m knocking off is because some of the details didn’t come second nature to me while reading. I’m a good context reader and kind of pushed through, but there were some confusing moments that took me a bit to get over.

🔮 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲: Medium. It definitely takes some previous fae knowledge and some shifter understanding. You might be lost if you’re new to the genre.

📝 𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲… I hate when this happens so I’m warning you - on my Kindle, this book finished at 89%. Just so you know when it’s coming.

          𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

          𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3/5 🌶🌶🌶

I saw a TikTok for another book in the series and figured I’d start at the beginning and see how I got on. Wow. What a book. I was hooked immediately. I got completely swept up into this world with ease and I loved every second.
I LOVED that although the FMC Clarke was in a world she had no idea about, that magic was real for once she wasn’t an FMC who shied from it. She was like, oh well, I’m here, I can’t do anything about it, let’s grab on with both hands and go!!! Loved it!!

The MMC Rush was our reluctant hero, he had spent years wallowing in his curse and resigned that he would do what he could when he could, I loved that Clarke took him by surprise with her strength and resolve and that she wasn’t afraid to call him out on his BS!! While he was always showing her that he cared in his small and consistent acts of kindness! That’s all it takes!!

Loved it! Loved the world building and that it wasn’t too heavy and yet easily pictured, loved the strengths of the main characters and how easily I fell into their journey! Loved the drama but that nothing was ‘dragged out’ waiting for action!

Can’t wait to dive in to the next!!!!

I got this book as a Kindle Unlimited and after reading it I bought all 9 books in the series. I have not been disappointed. I am up to book 7 and that is the first one I feel would rate less than 5 stars for me. The series have brave heroes and strong heroines. There is an ongoing story line but with the different heroes being the subject in each book. I have really enjoyed this author and she should be congratulated for an excellent series.

I loved this book! The FMC, Clarke, lived in modern day where the Earth was dying. Humans pushed the Earth's resources to far and now face the consequences. After a flash ice age, Clarke wakes up in the future, years in the future to a whole new world. Magic, shifters and fae now rule Earth. Having no idea what is happening, Clarke is found by the MMC, Rush. Rush is a fae guardian who was banished to never be seen by anyone. Having not been seen by anyone for years, he is shocked to find that Clarke is able to see and talk to him. Thinking this is his ticket out of his curse, they travel together The Order.

I absolutely loved this world! I was not expecting the post-apocalyptic setting but it completely worked! I fell in love with the characters and the world building. Thought this book set up future books perfectly and I can't wait to continue the series!

This is the first book in what I think are now 9 in this series and it has me HOOKED!

The world building is amazing. I believe someone had described it as a mix between the Witcher and the 100 TV series. I agree, but there is so much more to it!

This story that Lana has created is fascinating and I've only read the first book so far. A human time travels/realm travels (not quite sure on that yet) to a world of shifters, just barely evading a disaster in her world, only to find herself in another in a world that is not her own, but is her own at the same time.

You've got everything in this book from hot warrior shifters, a feisty human FMC and magic all around. There is corruption, a budding romance, family drama/trauma and an apocalyptic disaster that is yet to be explained. Oh and I cannot forget the best part....very sensitive shifter ears...ifykyk.

I must admit that by 5% I wasn’t sure if I’d make it through the end. I stuck with it though, and I’m glad I did.

It wasn’t my first “Lana book”, and I already knew I loved her stories, that’s part of why I didn’t drop it.

I’m glad to say that the beginning was the worst part. After that, the book only gets better (and no one is sexually assaulted!)

I loved Clarke’s personality and I loved how she was the only one able to see Rush, but I still think some things need better explaining, but hey, it’s the first book in the series, so Crimson only knows what is in store for me. In fact, I’m about to start book 2 and find out!
