This Much Is True (Marshall Family Series) Kindle Edition
This isn’t your average romance. It begins with me in a wedding dress, just not at an altar …
I never expected to be a runaway bride. I also never thought I’d end up on my ex’s doorstep to flee from said wedding. Now that I’m here, it’s easy to find the key in an old boot by the door and let myself inside. It’s not breaking and entering if I have a key, right?
It’s safe to say that Luke Marshall didn’t expect to find me on his couch in my wedding dress, my veil over my face in tears. He has no choice but to listen to my panic-induced plea for salvation. It’s only a matter of time before the tabloids get wind of my disappearing act, and my life is over.
Luke takes pity on me and says I can stay… on one condition.
I can’t sing for my supper—I have to earn it. I have to work in the barn alongside him, up to my elbows in horse manure. Oh—and because there’s only one bed, I get the couch.
This works … in theory. However, when sparks start flying, and the small-town farrier asks me to stay, I’ll have to decide between my life as a pop star or a second chance with my first love.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024I absolutely loved This Much is True by Adriana Locke; it is an incredible runaway bride second chance at love story. It is the second book in her Marshall Family series. Adriana Locke continues to prove that she is an amazing storyteller and continues to be one of my favorite authors to read. This Much is True was impossible to put it down and I loved every moment on every page. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? This Much is True is the story of Luke Marshall, farrier, and blacksmith and his first love, pop star Laina Kelley. Laina is in Brickfield, Indiana to marry Tom Waverly, a Hollywood heartthrob when she decided to become a runaway bride and not marry Tom. One of her security guards drives her to the home of Luke Marshall in Peachwood Falls, her first love. Laina lets herself into Luke’s home and he is surprised to find her on his couch in her wedding dress. Laina and Luke have not seen each other in over six years when she left Peachwood Falls for Nashville. I love how Laina and her best friend Steph follow Luke the “hot farrier” on social media through the videos he posted online. Laina does not have any clothing and left her phone in the car that dropped her off. Laina wants to escape from the media and hides out at Luke’s home. Luke reaches out this his brother, Gavin, to borrow clothes from their niece, Kennedy. Luke puts Laina to work helping him clean out the stables. I love the chemistry between Laina and Luke and the flirtatious banter. Conversation between Laina and Luke flows so easily, I love that both Laina and Luke share secrets with one another that they have not shared with each other before, especially the secrets that Laina shares about her father and Tom, her former fiancée. Luke is not looking for a relationship and does not want another broken heart when Laina leaves again. I love all the childhood nickname that Luke has for Laina and how he had it incorporated into his tattoo. As Laina and Luke spend time together things quickly change between them, neither one is willing to admit their true feelings for one another, knowing that eventually Laina will return to Nashville. Some of their conversations between Laina and Luke are truly heartbreaking. I love the relationship between Laina and Luke’s family and the conversations between them. A heart-breaking surprise plot twist occurs, which changes everything between Laina and Luke. I love the heart-to-heart conversation that Luke has with Chase. I love all the changes that Laina and Luke make to have a life with one another. I loved that This Much is True is a more than just a romance, there are issues that both Laina and Luke are facing that need to be resolved. I love how the storylines get so beautifully resolved. I love the perfect ending to their love story and the surprise that is revealed. I loved the proposal; it was my favorite part of the story, especially the significance of the engagement ring. My favorite statement is when Gavin says the one who got away is suddenly back. I really enjoy how the book is told in the first person from perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. My favorite part of the book is how Adriana Locke incorporates the title of the book and picture on the cover into the love story. I love how Adriana Locke always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. Adriana Locke continues to deliver all that and so much more. This Much is True is a runaway bride second chance at love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. This Much is True is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, Adriana Locke did not disappoint, especially with the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. This Much is True is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists. I love the Peachwood Falls location. I love the characters and the family dynamic in This Much is True the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between the Marshall siblings, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I love the family text stream. I loved all the characters in This Much is True, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series about the Marshall siblings. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed This Much is True, who does not love a runaway bride second chance at love story. Highly recommend this incredible love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2025I love second chance romances. This one captured me from the beginning, with Laina pulling a runaway bride from a man she never should’ve been with. She escapes to Luke’s home, the previous love of her life.
It’s fun to see these two reconnect and become an item again as they work out the logistics of her stardom.
Great characters and storyline. It was fun to jump back into the Marshall family.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2024In her latest release, "This Much Is True," Adriana Locke once again captivated me with the heartwarming tale of a second chance, small town romance between a pop star and a blacksmith. As the second book in the Marshall Family series, this story is undeniably one of Locke's sweetest yet. With a refreshing lack of the typical third act breakup, this easy-to-read novel is a true delight from start to finish.
Adriana Locke has done it once more with the release of "This Much Is True," the second book in the beloved Marshall Family series. This heartwarming tale of a small-town second chance romance between a pop star and a forger (blacksmith) is undoubtedly one of Locke's sweetest stories to date. What's more, the novel's lack of a third act breakup makes for a refreshingly easy read that is sure to bring joy to readers' hearts.
Laina and Luke were each other's first loves, their love seemingly once in a lifetime. For six years, they were inseparable, until Laina's singing career took off and the distance between them became too much to bear. But now, as a runaway bride seeking refuge from the media frenzy surrounding her failed wedding, Laina knows exactly where to go for safety: Luke's ranch. True to form, Luke welcomes her back with open arms, ready to offer comfort and protection in her time of need.
Laina is feeling overwhelmed by the chaos of her life, with everyone else making decisions for her and leaving her feeling helpless. But in the midst of it all, Luke recognizes that Laina has always been and will always be his one true love, and he's willing to go to great lengths to make her feel safe and supported. As they face some tough choices together, Laina and Luke aren't afraid to put their hearts on the line and be completely honest about their feelings. It's a refreshing change of pace to read a story where the characters aren't hiding their emotions and are willing to risk everything for the sake of love. Will Laina be able to take back her life? Will Laina and Luke be able to overcome the obstacles in their way?
The other members of the Marshall family add a delightful layer of complexity to the story, and I am eagerly awaiting the release of the third book in the series. Each family member has their own unique and intriguing story, so it doesn't even matter to me who is next - I'm sure it will be just as captivating as the first two. As someone who has read every book that Adriana Locke has written, I highly recommend "This Much Is True" to anyone looking for a heartwarming and engaging romance novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the feels
From book 1 I thought Luke was a bad boy - his reputation certainly was that of someone who you wouldn’t want your daughter to date. But this book shows him with so much heart. It’s a beautiful story (I listened on audible), lose yourself for a few hours in another of Adriana’s excellent stories.

Laina and Luke.
Luke gets a shock when he finds his ex girlfriend on his couch in her wedding dress.
I loved these two. Laina taking control of her life and the support no questions ask that Luke provides in her hour of need.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved their story
“So you just tied me up in one of your shenanigans that will be one of the year’s biggest scandals.”
Luke doesn’t know how to react when he returns home to find his ex girlfriend waiting for him in a wedding dress.
Laina is a famous singer and she literally left her actor fiancé at the alter because she knew going through with it would be the biggest mistake she has ever made. Living in a life where all the decisions are made for her, she questions how she got there.
With limited options, she goes to seek help from her first love, knowing that he wouldn’t turn her away. I was quickly drawn into their story because even though they may be opposites, there is so much that pulls them together.
“ She’s not mine to keep. “
Luke let’s her stay while she figures out her next steps but in return, she needs to help him around the farm. They easily fall into a routine of banter and laughter that had me swooning.
“My life began the day I met you, and the only way it makes sense is when we’re together.”
When I first met Luke, he seemed like a jokester without plans to settle anytime soon but the truth was he never saw a future with anyone but the girl that got away.
Watching Laina reconnect with Luke while finding her voice to demand changes within her life was so aspiring to see. Their story will be living rent free in my mind and I loved catching up with the other characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet and gentle second chance
This Much is True by Adriana Locke is book two of the Marshall Family series and it’s a sweet and gentle story about a couple that takes a second chance and what is inevitable.
Laina is a country star who leaves her small town to chase her dreams and finds major success, but along the way loses her North Star, Luke.
Machinations and a runaway bride play a part in the story, but the joy in this book is how easy and right it is for Laina and Luke to rekindle the love they never let go in their hearts… and how willing they were to blow up their lives to be together.
