The Third Black Beacon Book of Mystery (The Black Beacon Books of Mystery) Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 1 rating

You’ve cracked the cases and caught the culprits in the first two Black Beacon Books of Mystery and you’re back for more puzzling crimes to solve. The third volume won’t disappoint you with a new selection of original and enigmatic puzzles to both entertain and challenge even the greatest of armchair detectives. Sherlock Holmes won’t be here to help you this time around, but Doctor Watson is on call. You’ll be working with Oscar Tremont again on two strange cases, and Lena Lombardi is back, with Marmalade purring on her lap. There are plenty of new additions to the cast as well. You’ll be introduced to the Gallic private eye, François Genest, match wits with Tillie Kepler and State Trooper Burt Colosso at Tillie’s inn, calculate a crime with Dr. Leonard Simon, full-time professor of mathematics and logic, and part-time solver of murders, you’ll head back in time to the Roman Empire and witness Joshua the Seer catch a killer in Jerusalem, and Dougal Grieve will need a hand helping the constabulary uncover the truth in misty Scotland.

Do you consider yourself a case-cracking mastermind? Are you ready to pit your wits against our distinguished detectives?

This latest volume is a satisfying return for fans of the series and a perfect entry point for new armchair detectives. The puzzles are smart, varied, and often delightfully old-school in tone, with plenty of clever red herrings and unexpected turns. Seeing familiar sleuths like Oscar Tremont and Lena Lombardi again is a treat, and the new faces—especially François Genest and Dr. Leonard Simon—bring fresh flavor. Some stories lean more cerebral than thrilling, but that’s part of the charm. A must for classic mystery lovers.
