Buzby loves Yule... for all the wrong reasons. He’s looking forward to spending time in a lavish mountain town, but a wayward curse and snowed-in cabin force him to confront mistakes he never intended to. Fortunately, his ex has the survival skills to get them through it, if he could stop living in the past.
Freyr can’t wait to enjoy the holiday season alone relishing the spirit of Yule—even without his powers. But he never expected a self-absorbed demon to crash his getaway. Now Freyr intends to get the infamous Prince of Gluttony out of his system… All while keeping his secret hidden. Freyr might be hot and cold, but Buzby intends to give him the gift of a lifetime, and it’s one hell of a present.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2024This was a good and interesting sequel, with good characters. I enjoyed it, but I think it would be even better fleshed out more. I would have liked to have more explanation of each supernatural character's identities and relationships to each other, more consistent reminders of each demon's sins, more room for characters to show unique personalities, and clearer sense of places and events. When Leviathan and Leigh show up, I have no clue how or why. I have impressions of each character, but no physical or emotional details to make them unique. The final antagonist is never described in any real sense beyond huge (how big is unclear) and having wings and horns, despite the final confrontation being physical. It's not at all clear how the outcome is plausible, because the protagonist seems small and physically very fragile until that point. I love the personal arcs for both characters, which is very rare in this genre and greatly appreciated, but it's hard to put them in perspective with the world. It's obvious to me the author is building to change in the world, but its starting place is so very unclear, that it's hard for me to understand the stakes and import of that change.
What's there is good writing, narrative, and characters. It would just be good to have more of each.
Just to be open and clear, I received an ARC. My review wasn't influenced by this.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2024Hell of a Present had such a fun mix of pantheons and unique lore, and the magic was awesome! I really loved the MM relationship and their second-chance romance. Guys who are only soft for each other always get me!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2024What a surprising lovers to enemies to lovers story this was. I wasn't sure what to expect meeting Buzby and his opulent ways. He is tasked by his brother Lucifer to bring back Leviathan, but while he waits, he runs into the one man he literally can't get off his mind. The war god he betrayed in the worst possible way about 3000 years ago. The heat and passion between these two, even if one side is mostly hate, is off the charts. I'm going to be honest, Buzby broke my heart for the brokenness he was carrying. You will not regret this short novel, the second in the series of the royal devils.
"It’s almost comforting, in a completely soul-destroying way."
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024This was a sexy 2nd chance enemies to lovers romance. The enemies part wasn't overly angsty and the book isn't too long so things happen fairly quickly. Definitely read book 1 first to understand the overall plot and some of the side characters in this one.
Buzby and Freyr were hot and while it may have taken them a while to TALK, once they got all their secrets and feelings out in the open their relationship blossomed. Loved the epilogue, would love to see more of them bantering and happy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Secrets and lust!!! Plus kimchi
I love B.P. Gilmore. I love her books, and her writing and her posts. And this book is no exception. What do you get when the god of war and a demon prince had a bad breakup and are snowed in together. A lot of freaking tension and spice... holy cow this was good. I must add I loved how the spice felt deeper... how character development and a lot is shown about the characters and their relationship is shown in those spicy scenes. Plus so much is happening beyond their own relationship. I loved it. I needed it. And I can't wait for "Hell of a moment" that I of course pre ordered and is out this month.
