“Kai Flint and the Wayward Princess,” by Matt Mememaro, is a twisty fantasy adventure. Be advised that this is book 1 of a series, and this story ends in a cliffhanger.
The tale begins in tragedy as Kai Flint witnesses the murder of his wife and son by a cruel dragon. Saddled with grief, Kai goes after the beast bent on revenge. It is revealed that Kai is a mage, with powers far beyond that of most of his kind. Yet Kai encounters those who are able to overpower him at times. He is successful in defeating the murderous dragon though. Soon therafter, Kai awakens in a strange land with no conception of how he got there. He is unable to use his powers and is taken prisoner by a “void mage.”
In time, Kai becomes embroiled in the troubles of Veriton, the realm of King Ridgel, who has outlawed magic, and uses void mages to strip mages of power, and imprison or kill them. He is reportedly also keeping his daughter prisoner. But then the princess is kidnapped by a group of rogue mages. I found this to be an interesting and unpredictable story. I did not always understand Kai’s reasoning, such as why he would choose to defend a ruler who had outlawed magic and had countless mages killed or imprisoned. Nevertheless, it is a fine choice for fans of fantasy and magic.

Kai Flint and the Wayward Princess is the classic dragons, mages, magic etc. It starts out with Kai's village being burned and his wife and son were killed. He goes to find the dragon responsible to get revenge, but that's not the end of it at all. He ends up on a long journey with others, and it ends on a cliff hanger.
The formatting was good, thankfully. Some I've had lately are all wonky. The grammar was good too and that all pleased me. The story itself was pretty interesting but Kai kind of bugged me because he's supposed to be mega powerful, but he gets defeated a lot. I guess that was for more drama.
Also, when he found his family died, it kind of felt...flat? I felt like their should have been more emotion there, and it was a bit bland overall. Some parts lagged a bit, but I'd still recommend it.

Kai Flint and the Wayward Princess drew me in right away. The opening scene drew me in wanting more and more. There were so many twists and turns I wanted to know what was next with each chapter and page.

The main character, Kai Flint is talented and quite full of himself which gets him into a bit of trouble. It was fun to follow him on his journey of processing his loss and the lessons he gains on his journey. It’s beautiful how he tries to share this with others at the end of the book.

The other characters are a hoot and so much fun. There are many surprises with the characters and they aren’t who you think they originally are which keeps the intrigue up.

I loved how there were multiple storylines going on and how they tied together. This was done really well and it was fun to see how everything was connected.

Overall a fun book that takes you on a journey through lands, battles, and inward healing.

This book was pretty good. There was a LOT of storyline in what seemed like not a lot of space, but it didn’t seem to detract from the story. I did feel like something was missing though… maybe it was the character development for me, but I just can’t place my finger on it to be sure.

This book/series is definitely worth a try if you like magical beings, dragons, angels, and the like in your books!

Great work of art. This rollercoaster of a ride starts off with loss. A fight with a dragon. A kill. A capture. A kill. A champion. Some trials. More kills. More adventure. A cliffhanger.
I was at the edge of my literal seat, turning these pages. I couldn't read it fast enough. What a great new EPIC world to get lost in.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The story flowed well and kept me intrigued. I loved the world building and the magic.
The highlight was definitely Kai, he is now one of my favourite characters of all time. His sarcasm and comments were fantastic and many made me laugh. He honestly could not care less.
I especially loved his interactions with Vuluur.
I would really recommend if you like fantasy. I would happily read more from this author, especially this series!
