Testing the Goalie: an m/m student/professor romance (GSU) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 413 ratings

Can I win over the sexy daddy that has been starring in my dreams?

It’s my last year as a GSU Koala, and I’ve worked hard to become the hotshot goalie our fans know and love. I could go pro, but that’s never been my end goal. I want to be a doctor, and I’m determined to get there.

I give hockey and school my all, which hasn’t left much time for relationships. Not that I want one, since people always leave - a lesson I learned the hard way.

Despite my past, part of me is over quick hookups and the endless string of one night stands I’ve been entertaining for the past few years. Of course, it would help if I could stop dreaming about my summer fling. The man who had me calling him “Daddy” as if it was second nature. Who opened my eyes to things I had no idea I would love.

That’s easier said than done when I see him again, in the last place I expect: as the newest professor at GSU.

Even though I'm not in any of his classes, he thinks I’m off-limits. Will I be able to convince him that a friends-with-benefits arrangement is just what we need to meet our mutual desires? If I do, what happens then?

Testing the Goalie is book 2 in the GSU series but all books can be read as standalones.

Can be read as a standalone
Testing the Goalie is my first read by Laura John, and I will definitely be reading more. It is book 2 in the GSU series, but I was able to read it as a standalone. Ben Cooper/Coop and Ian/Professor Johnson meet on vacation and discover new things about themselves fast forward a few weeks and Coop goes to check out the 'New Hot Professor'. I loved their dynamic and the focus on communication as key to a relationship. Things I enjoyed 🏒Daddy/Boy 👨🏻‍🏫 Age Gap 🏒 Found Family 👨🏻‍🏫 Dual POV 🏒 Epilogue

I enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down and the spice was spicen. Ben and Ian met up at a resort and then meet again a few months later. They start off with a friends with benefits dynamic that soon transforms into a relationship. I love how the key concept in this storyline was all about communication. There isn't a plot in this story, but Ben does hit a hardship towards the end. This was a quick little read, but it was worth the read.

Ben and Ian first meet while they’re on vacation and enjoy a couple of lust-filled days until they go their separate ways. However, they run into each other again at GSU, where Ben is a senior and Ian just took a job as an English professor. Ben wants to hook up with Ian again and proposes a friends-with-benefits relationship. Although Ian is initially hesitant, he ultimately agrees.

Ben discovers new things about what he likes in the bedroom as he explores with Ian. Ian is happy to find a partner that he meshes with so well. Both men soon realize that they’re catching feelings and decide they want to have a real relationship with each other. Ben is a little scared at first because he’s not used to people sticking around, but he accepts that, just like his friends, Ian cares enough to stay in his life.

“Testing the Goalie” is a low-angst romance novel between a teacher and a student. Ben and Ian are very flirty, and the book spends a lot of time exploring the chemistry between the two men. We also see Ben grow as he realizes he’s created his own family despite not growing up with one. The glimpses of other characters, especially Ben’s friends, add entertainment and depth to the story. I found “Testing the Goalie” to be an enjoyable read, and I rate it four stars.

Ian and Ben meet during the summer on vacation and quickly hit it off. Ben doesn’t realize until Ian that he is submissive and into Daddy/boy kink. Ian already knew this about himself. I don’t prefer the D/b dynamic but this was not OTT and quite light. They part ways and don’t exchange information.

Surprisingly (not to the reader) they meet again at school, with Ian as a professor and Ben as a student but not one of Ian’s. Eventually they pursue a friend’s with benefits relationship for a brief time but feelings quickly become involved.

I appreciated the low angst of this book, and even how quickly I was able to read it. But after their relationship dynamic changes the timeline jumps in large chunks, so we don’t really get to see them dating much, which was disappointing since this is a romance.

The discord near the end between Ben and Ian just did not sit right with me, but I don’t want to go into it and give away too many details. It just seemed forced.

This was so hot! College professor Ian and college hockey player Ben meet at a resort before the school year. They dont exchange contact info, so both men are shocked to see each other again.

Super hot! Definitely recommend if you like M/M, Daddy/boy (no age regression)

I really enjoyed this book. It’s spicy from the start, and so much of the book! It’s pretty low angst and overall sweet vibes. If you love the daddy vibe this book is definitely for you!

Will be reading more from this author.

Ben growing up in the foster care system has abandonment issues not letting anyone close for fear of them leaving him, then he meets Ian on vacation and they hit it off, gone their separate ways who would have thought they would come eye to eye on Ben's college campus months later, those smoldering feelings are about to heat up and put more fear of the inevitable of the people in his life leaving him, will Ian be able to put his fears to rest forever, can they make the age difference between them work, a seamlessly beautiful story, a family is what we make it to be with the people who love us, I have voluntarily read and review this ARC, thank you for the privilege, Dana Zamora

This was a good read. I enjoyed the story and the characters.

I do feel the author could find an alternative word to desire as it seemed a little repetitive.
